Medway Towns Rowing Club was formed in 1958 as an amalgamation between Medway Rowing Club (established in 1865) and the club then known as Chatham and Gillingham Rowing Club (established in 1869). The club takes its establishment year of 1865 from Medway Rowing Club as it was the older of the two clubs.

Established in 1990 A-Z Rider Training are proud to be the longest established motorcycle training school in the Medway, Maidstone, Sittingbourne and Swale areas. From our first day our aim has always been to offer the highest quality full motorcycle licence and CBT courses in a friendly manner. (We certainly don’t believe, as some others do, that the louder we shout the more you understand!) Today, we still feel these simple principles set us apart from the competition. Over the years we’ve seen many competitors come and go whilst we’ve gone from strength to strength. Based in Gillingham Kent we are the closest motorcycle training school to the Gillingham Kent test centre. (Kent is now only served by three motorcycle test centres Gillingham, Erith and Herne Bay. If you live in the Gillingham, Chatham, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Rochester or the Isle of Sheppey areas then Gillingham’s the one for you.) Our ideal geographic location means that for students doing their full motorcycle test with us there’s ample opportunity to familiarise themselves with the area in which they will take their on-road practical motorcycle test.

As a fully accredited training organisation, our forklift operator and industrial plant operator courses are always delivered to comply with guidance published by ITSSAR, (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register). ITSSAR is a founder member of the ABA Workplace Transport 2012 body, who regulate the industry. All of our instructors are fully accredited, and regularly undergo personal development training to keep up to date with latest regulations and guidance. All training is designed to fully comply with current guidance published by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive). We pride ourselves in delivering training that is involving, practical, and engaging. We offer training courses for novice operators, experienced operators, and those who need to undertake a refresher course to keep their certification current. HSE guidance advises employers that refresher training should be undertaken every 3-5 years, dependent on levels of supervision. The Halpern Charitable Foundation exists to inspire and transform the lives of the broad and diverse audiences of people and communities in Medway and Kent. The Halpern Charitable Foundation was founded in 2002, achieving charitable status in March 2003. It was set up initially to meet three particular aims – to provide affordable space for artists to work and exhibit in Medway; to help people with mental and/or physical illness/disability; and as a backstop for the Chatham Memorial Synagogue, should it ever be in real financial difficulty with no other avenue left. Since then the Foundation has refined and expanded its ideas. We realised that in addition to providing studio and exhibiting space at affordable prices to artists, we needed to help break down the barriers some of the public felt in accessing contemporary arts. We realised that there were a lot of people not being included within the local community and we have found that using the arts to enable these groups is tremendously effective.

Dream Academy is a Performing Arts School offer classes from 18 months right through to adults. We provide workshop style classes consisting of Singing, Dance and Drama to give a full creative experience for all performing arts students. All students perform a live summer show each year to give our students the platform to present their new found confidence and skills. We are also involved in varying external projects in Kent including; charity events, community fares and much more. Becoming accustom to performing publicly from an early age can combat issues often experienced in later life such as difficulty speaking to strangers on the phone, performing well in job interviews and building new relationships. Dream Academy’s core focus is to improve children’s self-confidence and social skills. We feel that our Performing Arts workshops are the perfect way for your child to develop these personal skills and attributes. As well as being a fulfilling creative outlet for children, we have also found that Performing Arts helps children build friendships more easily, feel more confident with public speaking and also improves children’s reading and writing skills. Performing arts help children learn important life skills. They boost social skills, encouraging children to work with and learn from others. They increase language skills because children are interested in learning more about the arts and how to improve their abilities in the arts. They help children be more tolerant of differences because the arts can immerse them in unfamiliar cultures that span other times and other countries. Most importantly, making and appreciating performing arts spurs curiosity, which helps develop lifelong learners. Horizons for learning as part of the John Hopkins School of Education released a publication showing the following: The Arts are an essential part of public education. From dance and music to theater and the visual arts, the arts give children a unique means of expression, capturing their passions and emotions, and allowing them to explore new ideas, subject matter, and cultures. They bring us joy in every aspect of our lives. Arts education not only enhances students’ understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their perspective on traditional academics. The arts give us the creativity to express ourselves, while challenging our intellect. The arts integrate life and learning for all students and are integral in the development of the whole person. The Arts communicate and speak to us in ways that teach literacy and enhance our lives. We must continue to find a place for arts programs and partnerships not only for what it teaches students about art, but for what it teaches us all about the world we live in. Nicholas was born in 1974 in Kent, and was educated at Chatham House Grammar School Nick Downs - Director, North Downs Music Studio Nick Downs – Director, North Downs Music Studio for Boys in Ramsgate. By the time he left school, he was proficient in playing bassoon, recorder, piano, viola, drums and percussion, having played for the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra & Kent County Youth Orchestra on bassoon & contrabassoon, touring with the former in 1990 to Singapore. At Trinity College of Music, he studied bassoon with Stephen Maw and piano with Philip Coleman, leading to a GTCL qualification at 2:1 classification. He continued at Trinity for a further year, on the Postgraduate Performance course, concentrating on the bassoon. After leaving college, Nicholas began working as a musician with Kent County Youth Service, based at 3D Studios in Northfleet, where he worked with young people in musical fields, including organising & running a Battle of the Bands competition, junk orchestra, monthly discos, & setting up an in-centre radio station. He also instigated & tutored on the “East Meets West” music project in partnership with Ranjit Shokar of Kent Music School, aimed at juxtaposing the cultural differences of western wind instruments with eastern percussion.
