London Lit Lab

london lit lab

We believe writers can learn a huge amount from each other. We set up London Lit Lab to share our writerly experience, knowledge and inspiration with up-and-coming writers. Since 2016, we have been designing and teaching our own London Lit Lab courses, and mentoring writers of both fiction and non-fiction. We also teach creative writing courses at other organisations including the British Library, Riba, Mslexia, Arvon Foundation, St Mungo’s, Bath Spa and Birkbeck universities, Writers & Artists and Google. Lily Dunn Lily Dunn is an author, mentor and creative writing teacher. Her first novel, Shadowing the Sun, was published by Portobello Books and her debut nonfiction, Sins of My Father, A Daughter, A Cult, A Wild Unravelling, a memoir about the legacy of her father’s addictions, was published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in March 2022. You can find her personal essays in Granta, Hinterland, MIR Online, The Real Story and Litro, and she is a regular writer for Aeon. She is in her final writing up year of her doctorate at Birkbeck, University of London, and is interested in how to integrate the therapeutic power of writing with literature. She is co-editor of A Wild and Precious Life, Addiction, physical and mental illness and its aftermath: a collection of stories and poetry from writers in recovery, due to be published by Unbound in May 2021. She teaches creative writing at Bath Spa University and co-runs London Lit Lab. She also has experience teaching marginalised groups, specifically those in recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol. ‘Lily’s memoir course was first rate. I’ve attended other courses, but this has been by far the best!’ Eva ‘Lily has helped me uncover an unstoppable and undeniable urge to navigate and plot a course through my memories.’ Mia ‘Lily Dunn was exceptional. She knows her material well and delivered it confidently and in accessible chunks to a diverse group of writers and learners. I would do a continuation of this course if one were to be made available.’ James ‘I would like to thank Lily for being such a wonderful giving person and tutor. I really felt that she held the space well for the participants, which is so important considering the nature of the course. Lily was brilliant.’ Denise

ZunTold is an independent publishing company, based in Manchester, focusing on publishing good fiction to support mental health and wellbeing. We publish Middle Grade and YA fiction and love working with established voices as well as debut authors. Our authors have been nominated for literary prizes, including the Carnegie Medal, and won prestigious awards too, like the Lancashire Book of the Year Award, chosen solely by young people aged 13-14 years of age. We work with agented authors but twice a year, (in June for YA and in December for Middle Grade) we open our doors to authors who do not have an agent. We do not publish picture books as we don’t have the expertise to do so. We publish in print, e-book and interactive books. We run a programme we call Fiction as Therapy. Our staff are publishing professionals, writers, editors, counsellors and psychotherapists who have also trained in Therapeutic Writing. Books are 'healers for the soul' and creative writing brings many health benefits. Our Fiction as Therapy service offers a therapeutic programme of bibliotherapy across different age audiences and creative writing for therapeutic purposes, for young people and adults looking to support their mental and physical health and wellbeing. There is a growing evidence base that therapeutic writing and bibliotherapy can support people with long term physical health conditions as well as improving mental health. We are building links with NHS Trusts and Social Care providing an online library and blended services of tailored support to individuals and communities.

Bespoke Educational Services

London

Firstly, let me welcome you to Bespoke Educational Services. As a teacher with almost twenty years of classroom experience, I am well placed to assist you in fulfilling your potential. I taught, for extensive periods, in all areas of the primary sector before moving into secondary education and middle-management. At each stage, I was placed in key areas of the school, to aid transition, from EYFS all the way up to A-level - particularly looking at entrance to Russell Group universities and Oxbridge. For me, the importance of teaching is to ensure that the teacher is responsive to the needs of the pupil; you cannot fit square pegs into round holes! Too often, teachers rely on text books or expecting the pupils to adhere to their methods - I believe that this is wrong. An outstanding practitioner will flip this mentality and become the one who reacts and responds to their learners' needs. Online tuition can achieve this much more successfully, building a rapport that allows the teacher to understand each individual for exactly that - an individual. With so much experience, it is likely that I can work with you to ensure that you get what you need. Perhaps this is homework help or consolidation of your learning; perhaps it is the need to approach texts in a different way; perhaps it is simply to ensure that you are crafting your written work in the best possible way. Whatever you need, please get in touch and I will be happy to help you to achieve your goals, as your online tutor.
