The idea for Birmingham Egyptology arose in 2003 following the graduation of a class of MA Egyptology students eager to maintain their social network. In the following years members met socially and, on occasions, joined together for field trips and enjoyed involvement in research projects and, as a result, several of the original members of the group are still in regular contact. The group newsletter was first published in 2006 and circulation was extended to other interested groups and societies within the discipline. With the addition of new members through the various postgraduate programmes at Birmingham numbers have gradually increased until, by 2011 it was felt that we had sufficient strength in depth to host the CRE conference. That event took place in March 2012, its apparent success inspiring our most recent development: the formation of the Birmingham Egyptology Forum. The Forum brings current postgraduates together with alumni, other students and academics associated with University of Birmingham, and members of the public to work on a variety of projects. Regular seminars are held within the University to discuss matters of mutual interest. Other activities continue the work relating to the Eton Myers collection of objects currently on loan to the University following on from the initial catalogue of essays published on the University web site in June 2012. A summary of Birmingham Egyptology activities are presented on this web site to engage the interest of all persons interested in the topics raised, and updates will be made from time to time as opportunity allows. Items of the type formally published in the newsletter will now appear on the blog section whereas those of a more academic nature will appear in the journal section. The Birmingham Egyptology Journal, ISSN 2053-3586, is a peer-reviewed publication, available free of charge, which provides a platform for the presentation of scholarly articles relating to the culture, history, and archaeology of ancient Egypt and to which Birmingham Egyptology invite contributions from outside sources. Those interested in submitting articles may wish to consult the guidelines for contributors outlined in the ‘Journal’ section. Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales prides itself for supporting young people across Wales to achieve excellence. We do this by supporting vocational learning through Skills Competitions and the Have a Go initiative, to help encourage young people to excel in the world of work. The project, secured by the Skills Ambassador Network (SAN) in 2014, is a Welsh Government funded initiative led by Coleg Sir Gar. The SAN, was established in 2011, and consists of a dedicated network of colleges, work-based learning providers and employer-led organisations. Its primary focus, in 2014, was to develop vocational excellence, and encourage and enable greater participation in Skills Competitions by widening the knowledge and expertise across the education and training sector. We recognise that Skills competitions specifically enable young people to achieve their full potential whilst raising their skills levels to meet employer needs. They can drive productivity and prosperity in our economy and create more resilient communities. Investment in skills is an investment in the future of our country, our businesses and our people. The success of the ISEiW project saw the initiative expand in 2016 to delivering what it is today. The project spans across three platforms; Have a Go, Skills Competition Wales and WorldSkills UK Wales, and inspires and elevates young people to achieve excellence. The project provides young people in Wales with improved employability skills and life changing opportunities, with employers benefiting from an additional competitive edge – through the employment of highly skilled individuals bringing proficiency, added value to their businesses and contributing to the prosperity for Wales as a whole. The project establishes a culture across colleges and training providers that delivers more than simply qualifications – it develops world class skills, with experiences that build the confidence and life skills of individuals. A joined up approach to sharing of good practices and expertise is a priority, contributing to raising the standards of teaching and learning across Wales and embedding Skills Competitions as a method of assessing the quality of provision. Great Denham Primary School and Pre-School is situated at the heart of the Great Denham Community and conveniently situated for Bedford town and road links to the M1 and A1. Great Denham village is a new and growing community with facilities including a Nursery, Sainsbury's Local, independent retail outlets and The new Village Hall which opened in 2016. Our school opened in September 2012 with just 100 pupils, we have now grown to over 560 pupils in 2022! We are now a three-form entry primary school in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 and two form in Year 4,5 and 6. We also have a Nursery class for children from the September after their third birthday. When our pupils leave us at the end of Year 6 they transfer to one of many local secondary schools including Biddenham Secondary School and Lincroft Academy. Great Denham Primary School opened its doors for the first time in September 2012 with just over 100 children and 15 staff. In 2022 we now have over 580 children and 100 staff! The school had a 7 classroom extension in 2018 and we are now taking 90 children in each year group up to Year 4. Eventually, we will have 650 children with 3 classes in each year group. Many of the original staff remain at the school including the Headteacher and one of the Deputy Headteachers. Our Family Groups When children leave our early years they join one of our four family groups which they will remain in until they leave GDPS in Year 6. Each family group wears their own coloured polo shirt and there are regular opportunities throughout the term for children to learn, play and compete in their family group. Each family has a head boy and girl who are elected by the rest of their family. The head boys and girls are children from Year 6. The idea of having family groups came from wanting to create a small school feel within a large primary school. Each family has a Head of family (a member of the school leadership team). Our families have even written their own family songs which we sing regularly in assembly!

Here we are again in December with all the pressure that comes with it. The temperature has changed, the light has changed, the music on the radio has changed and the lights and decorations up everywhere are telling us of the joy to come, but we have to grind our way there. Grind our way through it and remember that not everyone is going to have a plentiful Christmas. We move towards it with restrained excitement and know that our foodbank collections and distribution will probably mean as much as at any time in recent years. 8W got stuck into The Samaritans Shoe Box appeal and managed to fill and send 9 shoe boxes for girls and boys for all age ranges from the wonderful donations received. The class are tracking them and we look forward with them to see where they end up. We know it’s a huge thing to receive one of these boxes in the target countries. Year 11’s are currently in the thick of their paper 1 mock exams and doing well, giving it a real go. We had the Functional Skills Reading paper results for a group of them yesterday and were thrilled to discover 9 out of 13 passed and one pupil missed out on a pass by only one mark. The results of the Writing Paper taken last week will be a little slower in arriving but we hope for a similar level of success. The paper 2 mocks will be in January and will help to prepare the pupils for the GCSE exams proper in May and June in 2023. There are planned trips to the Christmas markets and around the County to see some cultural sites in the next two weeks, but we are still full gas as we approach the end of term. The Daily Yellow news sheet continues to provide interesting reading for our community. The tutor teams have done a great job in producing it these last 6 weeks especially.

From a tiny enterprise in a spare bedroom to the largest independent first aid training provider in the UK, get to know imperative training... Humble beginnings In the third bedroom of David and Rachael Howarth's first home is where imperative training truly began in 2003. But instead of the 20 full-time staff and 200+ nationwide trainers we have today, there was just one first aid trainer in the company - and this was David! (But you can call him Dave). With a goal to become the number one first aid training company in the UK, Dave and Rachael focused on filling their freelance training diary to first begin establishing imperative training's own customer base. It was this which laid the foundation for Dave to develop the dynamic, fun and unique training style we still proudly deliver to this day. From day one, Dave and Rachael strived to work with blue chip organisations, knowing that these businesses would share the same values and goals as the growing imperative brand. Since establishing ourselves in the training world, we've welcomed big brand names to our customer base and have continued to build strong business relations with them to this day! So far we've worked with clients such as Starbucks, Sainsbury's, Costco, Kidsunlimited, Selfridges and Radisson Edwardian Blu Hotels and look forward to building relationships with more companies as we continue to expand and grow. In October 2013, the HSE dropped approval for first aid and training companies, leaving us to choose between continuing to provide our training courses with no approval or become an accredited provider. For us, this decision was a no-brainer; of course we wanted to be able to provide accredited courses to our clients! And so we became a Diamond Approved Centre of TQUK, this means all of our training is of the highest quality and we can proudly provide nationally recognised qualifications to our learners. Going Above and Beyond Since first becoming established as a company in 2003, imperative training has gone above and beyond not only in the first-class training is provides, but in its determination to develop, grow and constantly come out on top against any other organisation. As we first began to become known in the training world, we created our very own set of company PILOT values which we strive to embody in every aspect of work we do, these are Passionate, Integrity, Learning, Ownership and Team Work. These values provide a clear insight to how we work as a company; one which cares not only about the high standards that we regularly deliver, but how as a small company we can take on a big business mindset in order to achieve our goals and also the care we take towards the well-being of our own team which has helped build the success of the brand. So what's next for imperative training? Well you'll have to stay tuned for that one. Last year saw us launch our exclusive first aid app as well as develop our new range of exciting E-learning courses which debuted earlier this year. 2016 also allowed us to broaden our range by unveiling a selection of open courses which has helped us provide learners with a variety of learning options, giving everyone the opportunity to reach their goals. No matter what our plans, we aim to deliver each one with the same passion and purpose which first created imperative training, to continue to make the success of Dave and Rachael's dream a reality.

ABOUT THE BRITISH REIKI CIRCLE SCHOOL Founded by Alison in 2017, The British Reiki Circle offers: * A full range of Reiki courses, both certified and for personal use * Working with crystals and Crystal Reiki Alison is currently developing the next suite of courses that will introduce people to the magic of healing and manifesting with Earth’s gifts. When you choose to learn with The British Reiki Circle, you can be assured that your course is designed with compassion and experience.  Alison was first attuned to Reiki in 2006; she is an Advanced Reiki Master and Teacher, Crystal Reiki Master, and an experienced CIPD qualified trainer.   Alison’s interest in holistic therapy started in 1988.  She qualified as a Life Coach in 2003 and went on to qualify in a range of Holistic Healing therapies thereafter.  In addition to her own practice, Alison has a background in both digital health and the mental health sector of the NHS, she maintains a position of Deputy Director for a service hosted by the NHS called Thrive by Design [https://www.thrivebydesign.org.uk/], a multi-disciplinary team of specialists who have come together with an aim to co-design inclusive digital innovation and improvement in health and care to support everyone to thrive. ALISON'S COMMITMENT TO HER STUDENTS Yorkshire born and bred, Alison lives in the East Yorkshire countryside with her husband, where she crafts her courses and initiates the distance ceremonies.  I aim to provide the best learning experience for all of my Reiki students, as such I ensure that materials are regularly reviewed, updated, and new material added where it enhances the learning.   I aim to provide a balanced and blended learning environment, taking into account different learning styles, personal choice and on-going support needs.  I continue to be creative and curious, both in how Reiki can be used and the broader practice of energy healing and the subtle body.
