Our programs aim to promote the importance of our physical and personal environment, looking to the rural for inspiration and exploring the culture in AgriCULTURE. All of our projects are innovative and we try to bring something special to the area every year. We have scheduled classes with children in schools from the area . . . we have choirs preparing their voices to be heard. . . the technology of motion and sound is being prepared . . . the poetry of education motion through time and distance is being written. I think it is very important for clients to understand my background. I am first and foremost the mother of three children, one of whom, my daughter, is very dyslexic. I know from first-hand experience the pain, frustration and loneliness of being the parent of a bright child who is totally failing academically and for whom there is very little support from the teaching world. I was fortunate, in that I was working in the world of education when my daughter was diagnosed, and even more fortunate that one Headmaster out of many approached was “willing to have a go”. The final outcome for us was successful with a daughter gaining both GCSEs, A Levels and eventually after a huge amount of effort on her part a degree in the subject that she was determined to study. The outcome for other children with dyslexia and other SpLD needs is not always so successful. Having travelled extensively both in Europe, China, Korea, Japan, the Gulf States and Africa recruiting students for boarding in the United Kingdom, it has become apparent to me that although there are some exceptionally good international schools, many of them have limited resources to help children with dyslexia. Not only do they have limited resources in their learning support departments, often a fast turnaround in teachers, and importantly often the child’s stay in any one school is relatively short dependent on the parents posting, in addition the size of the school plays a significant role for children with SpLD needs. A dyslexic child often has issues of anxiety, and a large school with in many cases a school population in excess of 1000 students can have serious implications for these children. Children with dyslexia need more than most continuity of care and education, without it they are unlikely to thrive.

Established in 1968, now with over 1000 students and 70 full-time staff, we have evolved into one of the leading Law Schools in the UK. Our teaching standards and research quality consistently receive high ratings, and we maintain a strong research culture with all staff actively researching in their preferred areas. Over the last 40 years we have developed a contextual approach to legal education which avoids treating the law as if it can be separated from other aspects of society. Students examine the impact of economic, cultural and political change on law and consider how it affects life beyond the court-room and the lawyer's office, as well as studying legal judgments and statutes. We also pride ourselves on providing excellent teaching. A significant number of colleagues have received a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence – Dallal Stevens in 2011, James Harrison in 2011, Gary Watt in 2009 and Paul Raffield in 2008; in addition, Philip Kaisary and Jane Bryan received commendations in 2015 and 2014 respectively, and James Harrison received the Butterworth Award for Teaching Excellence in 2011. A number of our postgraduate research students have also received the equivalent award – Tim Dodsworth in 2013 and Adam Slavny (now an Assistant Professor) in 2012, with Natalie Byrom being commended in 2014. A number of colleagues are fellows of the national Higher Education AcademyLink opens in a new window (HEA). The HEA has also awarded National Teaching Fellowships (NFT) to Paul Raffield and Gary Watt in recognition of their outstanding achievements in teaching. Since there are only 500 NTFs across the UK as a whole, and 9 at Warwick, we are proud to host two of them. We encourage a comparative and international perspective on law which influences our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our staff and student body reflects this perspective, with students from twenty or more countries studying here at any one time, and teaching staff with varied backgrounds and extensive international experience or research interests.

Our very individual and flexible approach means we can easily adapt the programme for each student. As their needs and aspirations change and they develop, we offer new opportunities to support their personal growth and independence. Our integrated team of dedicated and specialist staff makes this possible. As well as specialist teaching staff, we have our own therapeutic staff on site, offering a range of therapies, including physio, speech and language, occupational, aquatic, massage and music. We have our own hydrotherapy pool. We also offer specialist medical support, 24 hours a day. Our staff are truly exceptional, and the trust we build with families is very strong. We also provide individual programmes through strong links with mainstream schools and FE colleges, so students can specialise and flourish where their aspirations lie.
