Brigg

The Vale Academy is situated in the small market town of Brigg in North Lincolnshire. We are a successful and high-achieving school. We have an excellent reputation and an established trend of high student outcomes which are consistently above those achieved nationally. In January 2017, we moved into our new building which provides state of the art facilities and an outstanding learning environment for our students and staff. These new facilities will enhance our excellent teaching and learning still further and will contribute to our drive for on-going success. The academy is extremely popular and, although we take most of our students from Brigg and the surrounding towns and villages, a large number of families from outside the catchment area also select The Vale as their secondary school of choice. Indeed, many students are prepared to travel some distance to access the high quality education we offer. The change to academy status in 2011 has brought with it many advantages, not least of which is the opportunity to be part of the Delta Academies Trust. This is an educational charity whose ethos is based on four founding principles which match our own: Quality, Partnership, Aspiration and Responsibility. At The Vale Academy, we pursue excellence for our students within all areas of their lives. We expect them to aspire to be the best that they can be and to achieve the highest possible academic standards. We also expect our students to develop into caring and considerate young people, who will leave the academy to become responsible citizens and make a valuable contribution to society. Indeed, we are justly proud of our students’ positive attitudes and outstanding behaviour.

IKSAC is one of the oldest diving clubs in the Midlands having been in existence in one form or another since the early 1970’s. We specialise in diver training within a friendly supportive club environment. We have in excess of 60 members at all levels of qualification. Some new members have yet to progress from the pool whilst some of the older members have been diving for over 30 years. Ages range from the younger ones of teen-age, right through to retirement age (and beyond in some cases). Our former Diving Officer (D.O.) and long standing member Trevor Perry has written a brief history of the club (see below). A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CLUB. The club was formed in 1973 being BSAC branch 592. It used Ilkeston pool as it’s base, which at that time still had the 3 metre diving pool which was useful for diver training. At this time Kimberley Leisure Centre was about to open, and members John Morris and Ray Booth approached the centre to see if it would be possible to use it for training. Permission was granted with the condition that the club changed it’s name to Ilkeston and Kimberley Sub Aqua Club. And so on the 5th October 1974, the day the leisure centre opened, IKSAC was born. We have been based at Kimberley since then. At Ilkeston (the date escapes me) we had a party underwater in the deep pool. It was decked out on the bottom with tables and chairs, and the divers ate fruit, and drank soft drinks and beer underwater. The TV heard about the event and sent along a crew to film us. A BMX bike had been donated and they filmed us riding off the top diving board. The presenter had a change of clothes and dropped off the diving board fully clothed to join us. We made a spot on prime time TV news. Another first for IKSAC was the production of a training video in 1984. Back then in the early days of sport diving there were no training aids and all lessons had to be handwritten by the D.O. As luck would have it, the club boasted a professional forensic videographer amongst it’s ranks. And so on the 10th March 1984 we made the training video “Diving from small boats”. Looking back now the boats are a bit dated bit the majority of the content is still relevant. We sold many copies to diving clubs (with a lot going abroad) and some to the RNLI. In those days Fort Bovisands at Plymouth was busy with training and B.A.D lads courses (basic air diving). IKSAC members used to go down and train on the commercial diving equipment, leading to deep diving, warm water suits, underwater cutting using thermic lances, underwater video and explosives. The weekends that the fleet was in port used to be spent on Union Street. IKSAC members were also pioneering diving in the Red Sea. In the 70’s and 80’s when Sharm was still a Bedouin village in the middle of nowhere, club members used to fly into Israel and cross the border at Taba. We would then travel up and down Sinai in jeeps, sleeping at the side of the sea, and eating food prepared by the Bedouins over a large blowtorch. Around the late 90’s we hit a crisis with membership. Because of the decisions taken by BSAC and PADI to commercialise their operations, we had a problem getting instructors onto training courses which were costing hundreds of pounds. The decision was taken to leave BSAC and join the SAA and so in February 1999 IKSAC became SAA branch 945, which is where we remain to this day. Trevor Perry March 2011

World Ju Jitsu Federation Ireland teaches a mix of kicking, punching throws and locks. The system has evolved from a combination of old Ju Jitsu styles which the Federation’s Founder, Soke Robert Clark, researched and trained in for many years. He took the best of everything and developed it into a complete training syllabus with belt grades. With his permission, David Toney developed the system further writing three training manuals, the first of which Soke Clark wrote a glowing endorsement for. We feel, over the years, our style of ju-jitsu has developed into one of the most comprehensive self defence systems available. OUR EXPERIENCE As we have developed as an organisation, we have been proactive in targeting more females to join and coach, and now are proud to have a coaching team of both sexes with a top tier of Master Grade instructors. Senior Club Instructors have been vetted by Access NI, hold full professional training qualifications, and Public Indemnity insurance, and each club must have a qualified first aider on hand at all times. We are ahead in our field by ensuring our coaches are equipped to meet the needs of those with varying ability and disability and those with learning difficulties. All of our affiliated clubs are recognised by the Governing Body for the Sport in Northern Ireland, and as such follow their policies and procedures. WHERE WE ARE We have approximately 70 clubs throughout Ireland and are part of the WJJF-WJJKO 1976 which has member bodies in countries all over the world. We not only offer you an opportunity to train in one of our clubs, offer private lessons and self-defence courses, but we also have courses, seminars and social occasions throughout the year, along with opportunities to travel to our sister-organisations to train and visit other countries.

English Artist, Sarah Madsen attended Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design in London, England. There she gained a BA Hons Degree in Jewellery Design. This interest in 3D Design was quite a different direction from her first love of Fine Art. The Desire to follow figurative art has been a constant theme throughout her life as an artist. In 1992 the artist received a Travel Bursary from The Royal Society of British Sculptors on a Medal Design. She has also exhibited at various locations such as the Mall Galleries in London, Silvermine Art Centre in Connecticut and also at Steven Whyte Figurative Sculpture Studio in Carmel, California, USA. After 12 years of living in various locations in the USA. Sarah returned to the U.K in 2013 and started her business "Sarah Madsen Jewellery." “It all started from drawing, always drawing. This all eventually lead to starting my Jewellery business from the kitchen table. (With a family of 4 children, you can only imagine, I grew quickly off the idea of mealtimes.) To thankfully now, a full Jewellery workshop/garden studio in the wilds of Cambridgeshire. Raw materials are transformed by using traditional metalworking techniques such as hammering, filing, stone setting, wax carving and soldering. I create every single item by hand. Pursuing an organic, floral and figurative style. I'm always trying to create a classic or "living feeling" piece (such as the Tiaras.) My aim is to bring quality and design together, to produce carefully crafted Jewellery work that is of heirloom and artistic merit. I feel extremely proud that I'm able to be part of the importance of keeping our skills as craftsmen alive here in the U.K. "
