What is different about our outdoor learning training from others is that it has been created by teachers specifically for schools and nurseries. Plus, we have developed a specific approach to help make the teaching of outdoor learning easy for the practitioner but also to help with the quality of our sessions and to ensure we are out there for a reason. The Muddy Puddle Teacher Approach is a much-loved teaching method created by teachers to better support vulnerable learners. We have different pathways. One route for those in formal settings such as schools and nurseries such as early years educators, LSA’s and teachers. FAQS: Are you like Forest Schools? We are NOT Forest School. We often get confused with Forest School, but we are entirely different. Many of our schools have Forest Schools and Muddy Teachers trained and use both approaches effectively. Forest School is holistic and encourages high risks to promote social and emotional well-being, such as tools and fire and typically is in a woodland area with prolonged amounts of time outside, such as a full day or entire afternoon. The Muddy Puddle Teacher is an Outdoor Learning Approach, essentially an extension of inside teaching and taking lessons outside. We typically use our school grounds and there are no set periods to stay there. It can be anything from 10 minutes to full days in the summer. What is involved in The Muddy Puddle Teacher Training? Individuals & International Schools Individuals and schools abroad typically take the online route and complete the training using an easy-to-use online format. It is very interactive with audiobooks and demonstration videos. It has four stages and each stage takes around 2 hours. I have previously worked as a horse-riding instructor as well as a travel agent, and before going on maternity leave, was working in customer service. After having Hailey I couldn’t bare the thought of sitting behind a desk all day while she went to nursery. I like to be active and love meeting new people. I took Hailey to Tots Play from the time she was just a few weeks old and we loved it. The benefits and results were amazing. From getting her to sleep better and helping her get over colic, to chats and advice from the parents and it was lovely seeing how much Hailey loved the interaction too. When the opportunity came to take over Tots Play in the area, I was so excited and was determined to make it happen. The support I received in the classes really helped me as a first-time mum, and I am passionate about providing this for others parents. Running the business also allowed me to escape the office environment, meet new people and be there to see my daughter grow up - a perfect fit for me! So the IAI seeks to challenge the notion that our present accepted wisdom is the truth. It aims to uncover the flaws and limitations in our current thinking in search of alternative and better ways to hold the world. The IAI was founded in 2008 with the aim of rescuing philosophy from technical debates about the meaning of words and returning it to big ideas and putting them at the centre of culture. Not in aid of a more refined cultural life, but as an urgent call to rethink where we are. That rethinking is urgent and necessary because the world of ideas is in crisis. The traditional modernist notion that we are gradually uncovering the one true account of reality has been undermined by a growing awareness that ideas are limited by culture, history and language. Yet in a relative world the paradoxes of postmodern culture has left us lost and confused. We do not know what to believe, nor do we know how to find the answers. The IAI was founded to help address this intellectual crisis. Our research and editorial teams have worked around the clock to face up to this challenge and unearth fresh ways of thinking that might guide us in an uncertain world. When, with the founding of the IAI, we declared that philosophy and big ideas should be at the heart of our culture, we did not do so out of reverence for ideas or an attachment to the academy and intellectual life. Sahan Society Centre, based in Hayes town within the London Borough of Hillingdon, was incepted in 2006 at the back drop of the closure of the Hillingdon Race Equality Council (HREC), a centre in the Hayes locality and run by the local authority to advise, support and assist service users on equality and race-related issues. The centre had come to a close following a decision made by the local authority to transfer its services to the local authority’s civic centre during the early part of 2006. Prior to its closure, the HREC had carried out a local research on the usefulness of the services offered to its members and service users. It had transpired that the majority of those seeking the centre’s assistance (78%) were of Somali heritage based in the Hayes area amongst other BME communities. This reflected the growing Somali population in the area and the need for targeted assistance and support to be offered to the growing community. The local community, particularly young women and mothers, were unable to understand and utilize the services offered to assist them with their health and child care amongst other needs and found it difficult to communicate these needs due to language barriers and issues of trust. Upon the HREC’s closure, and following on from the research that was carried out in the local community, a discussion was held by the members of the community to create and support the establishment of a local centre aimed at assisting the needs of the local Somali community which had led to the inception of the Sahan Society Centre. Sahan Society Centre continues to support and assist a total of 300 members of the local community. The number of members actively using the centre’s services has grown year on year, starting from 50 in 2006 through to 256 in 2012. The centre is also having an increased number of memberships and participation from older and younger men in the community. Our Ethos as a charity serving the needs of the vulnerable members of our local community are: To promote the participation, integration and cohesion of our members in their communities. To enhance the health and well being of Somali and other BME vulnerable mothers and children through education and leisure. To bridge the gap between Somali and other BME mothers and service providers, assist them with their needs and voice their concerns appropriately on their behalf.

We are an amazing special school and 6th Form with up to 150 students aged between 11 to 19 years old. Students are taught in classes of up to 12 individuals, supported by a teacher and normally at least 1 teaching assistant. Most new students join us in September in either Year 7 or Year 12 but we do admit young people into other year groups throughout the year where vacancies exist. Our students all have complex learning & additional needs (LAN) and all are supported by an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) which is reviewed annually. The majority of students join us are operating at least 3 to 4 years below chronological expectations. Our students’ additional needs include global developmental delay, autism, ADHD / ODD/ADD, anxiety, OCD, sleep apnoea, cerebral palsy, visual or hearing impairment, dyspraxia/coordination difficulties, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, chromosomal abnormalities including Down syndrome, speech, language & communication difficulties. It is our explicit aim to facilitate every opportunity to help address our students wider ‘therapeutic’ needs. Whilst some of our students have some mobility difficulties, due to the split-level nature of our site we are unable to cater for young people in wheelchairs. We describe our young people as not disabled but differently abled. We have a highly dedicated, experienced and specially trained staff team committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for every young person. We believe in building a real and lasting sense of community and belonging – we are proud of being an especially welcoming school. Feeling safe and developing positive and trusting relationships are key to our students’ success. Securing our students’ wellbeing and positive mental health is central to our provision. We employ a multi-disciplinary approach in meeting the needs of our students and each individual is following their own personalised programme. We place special emphasis on partnership working (with parents, other professionals, Local Authorities, business / industry and the local community). Papu Jordan is a fully qualified Reiki Practitioner & Teacher and Massage Therapist with a particular interest in women’s health issues. She is also a Sound Healer, Meditation Teacher and workshop facilitator. Papu was brought up in an immigrant family in which western medicine was used alongside more traditional methods and natural treatments, and so whilst developing a career in teaching, she continued gaining knowledge and experience of Complementary Therapies and using them in her own life. Papu now lives in Harpenden with her husband & Springer spaniel and has been using complementary therapies with her family for many years. She chants every day, is studying the ancient language of Sanskrit and has attended the Teacher Training programme at Sanskrit@St James’, London, which is further informing her work with Mantra & Meditation. Papu Jordan Holistic Therapies for Women was established in 2006 with a view to helping and supporting busy women with the stresses of modern life through Complementary Therapies.
