Little Hurrahs has been teaching BSL-based Baby and Toddler sign for over 5 years, working with families, carers, Pre-school and Nursery Setting and many other groups and organisations. Little Hurrahs is the Brain Child of Jo Emmerson. Now a mum of two, I have worked in all kinds of roles, from PR Director to Housing Manager, from Weight Loss Consultant to Quality Control in a Chocolate Factory, and more recently as both student and teacher of British Sign Language. My love of BSL started five years ago when we started taking BSL-based baby signing with our 6-month-old son. I utterly fell in love with how transformative it was. The gift of being able to communicate meaningfully with this small shouty human was mindblowing. It completely changed my experience of parenting, gave me the tools and techniques to begin to bond with the little squish, and start to trust my instincts. Fast forward a few years and my son was diagnosed with bilateral middle ear effusion (or 'Glue Ear' as it's commonly known) and he has significant hearing loss in both ears. Without his bone-conduction hearing aid, his hearing is similar to putting your fingers in your ears and putting your head underwater. Thankfully, we've been signing with him for years now. This diagnosis prompted me to move my BSL forward, completing Level 2 during Lockdowns in 2021 and completing my Level 3 in 2022, with a plan to start my training to become an n interpreter and gain my Level 6 qualification from 2023. It has also changed the focus of my work, moving me away from solely working with babies and toddlers to working with nurseries, schools, and colleges as well as parents with D/deaf and Hearing Impaired children. I am also pretty active in my local D/deaf community, volunteering and socializing - I'm proud of my signing son, and I want him to grow up feeling proud to be part of the BSL community. I now work directly with parents and carers, teachers, school staff, and children, delivering a range of courses, from self-led 90-day courses for parents, carers and EYFS settings, to School-year based 'train the trainer' online courses for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. These courses are primarily delivered online and are designed to ensure that my students get real, impactful results that can be measured informally, either through improved communication and understanding in the home or through in-class monitoring to ensure children meet formal education goals and expectations. I am also working with a Primary School to develop a new course, enabling staff and pupils to meet the Progression Steps for BSL as an International Language under the new Curriculum for Wales. I am Dorothea Scales. I have founded Fidas Consent Training because I want to share my knowledge and experience of dealing with sexual assaults and rapes which I gained during my career as a Detective Sergeant. I have combined my passion for safeguarding with my enthusiasm for training – having an MA in education and being a qualified teacher gave me the skills set to develop and deliver my courses. Since leaving the Police in October 2021, I have already delivered to hundreds of students, pupils and their teachers, to Designated Safeguarding Leaders and University students, colleges, youth organisations, charities, and apprentices   I have combined my expertise as an ex-Detective Sergeant in Safeguarding and my experience as a teacher, to develop my completely unique consent workshops, presentations and now a cost effective eLearning package . I have trained Detectives, Police cadets and Police Special constables and probationers. I have developed courses for Police officers in dealing sensitively with victims of rape and confronting myths and misconceptions. I have lead  leading a Pilot project for Durham County Council in delivering consent workshops to local secondary schools.   Fidas Consent Training is about sharing my passion for safeguarding the truly vulnerable and giving every person an informed choice about consent.   As a qualified, experienced, and passionate safeguarding specialist, I have 16 years’ experience as a Police Officer, protecting the rights of children, young people, and adults. I have always been driven by making a positive difference to the vulnerable. During my time in education and the Police, I have developed additional skills in risk management, people leadership and managing the most complex investigations which demand a sensitive and compassionate response. Victim focused and people centred in my work, I championed change in the police and built strong alliances with partner organisations As a Detective Sergeant within the Safeguarding unit I dealt with victims and suspects of rape and sexual assaults on a daily basis, often from report to court. I know and understand all the devastating consequences of not understanding or ignoring consent and want to share my experience with young people for a better future. I am a qualified Teacher and Safeguarding instructor committed to sharing my experience and expertise through my training courses. A leading educator has called the Centre Academy Schools (London and East Anglia) “the most successful special needs schools in the UK and, indeed, the most unique.” Here’s why: We accept a broad range of ages, boys and girls, from 7-19 (9-19 in London). This eliminates the anxiety, common to SEN students, of having to move from school to school to school. Research has repeatedly shown that for an SEN student, moving school is a tremendously daunting experience. We address an equally broad range of learning challenges on a case-by-case basis: ASD, AD/HD, Dyslexia, Speech and Language needs, Anxiety to name but a few. Such breadth and versatility is essential, as most SEN students face more than one learning challenge—and Anxiety is common to almost all. We group not by age or by year group but rather by ability and level of preparedness. Research repeatedly shows that SEN students accomplish best when they work with peers who are working at approximately the same level. We keep our schools small, approximately 50 at London and 60 at East Anglia. This ensures that our class sizes are small (usually between 4-8 students) and that learning will be individualised. At the CA schools, one size does not fit all. All our teachers are highly experienced and all have significant expertise in teaching SEN students. We do not increase our student to staff ratio through use of learning support assistants. Association of Igbo community in Nantes aka Obinwanne, is an association of Ndigbo living in the western part of France in a region called Pays de la Loire. It was formed in 2011 and elected its first executives the same year. The association was formed to with the hope and aim of bringing all Ndigbo living in Pays de la Loire together, to see how we can continue to uphold the communal lifestyle that Ndigbo are noted for. This we do by coming together to share our talents, ideas and no matter how limited our resources maybe, if put together it can greatly help us to archive our individual and collective dreams, also to see that all nwa afo Igbo living here is up and doing, known to one another to keep promoting the spirit of Obinwanne that we are noted for. This association is not just on its own as we are also in contact/linked with other Igbo communities in France, Europe, America and the world at large. We are also involved in some charity works back home to see that our people are not left out in enjoying the good amenities that life has to give. At present the association is evolving towards a bigger developmental level. It has opened its door to all UmuIgbo to join them to see that Ndigbo has a voice anywhere they are and also also to see that ur language is not deleted from the list of languages still being spoken in the world today.
