Sarah Louise Dix Upholstery was formed in 2005 by Sarah Dix. The business comprises of the Couture Label, the Pink Label, SLD Upholstery Services and upholstery courses & workshops. The Couture Label evolved from fusion ideas and specialises in the design and upholstery of quality vintage furniture inspired by the construction and form of clothing. The label’s designs are part artwork part furniture creating highly individual finished pieces. Some designs physically incorporate a vintage garment creating a surreal air while others have structural elements such as corsetry, the Corset Chair, or tailoring. Sarah’s furniture was shown at the London menswear show Stitch in February 2010 on the Blaqua menswear stand and were stocked at their shops in Newburg Street W1 and Kings Road SW3. In November 2013 Sarah bought an antique chaise longue from Katherine Higgins on BBC Put your Money Where your Mouth Is and reupholstered it in red velvet and faux fur with a corset back. Then in February 2014 She sold the Corset Chaise to Jeff Salmon on the Channel 4 TV programme Four Rooms for £1200. 2010 saw the launch of the Pink Label. The Pink Label is the diffusion range and produces the Corset Chair at a more affordable price. The original Corset Chair design has been simplified, the frames are new exact copies of the original Victorian shape and are upholstered using modern materials. Sarah also sold the chairs at Follet in Petworth, Sussex in 2012. The Upholstery Courses were introduced in January 2012 and run for ten weeks. The first teaching venue was at The National Trust property the Barge Building Shed. Dapdune Wharf. Guildford. Sarah had a residency there and courses run throughout the year in stunning surroundings, on the banks of the River Wey. She also launched courses in the studio space at The Art Works in East Horsley. This was a unique space selling contemporary arts and crafts. Other course locations were in Farnham, Grayshott and Cranleigh Arts Centre. Once Sarah was able to take on her own space in Godalming, the courses ran inhouse from then on. The spaces include Studio 22 and Bargate House and the current property in Farncombe. The courses are very popular and often over subscribed. Sarah also runs Beginners Footstool day workshops once a month on a Saturday. The workshops give a great introduction to upholstery and helpful when considering undertaking a ten week course. SLD Upholstery Services offers a full reupholstery service for clients. This service has been running alongside the design side and courses from the beginning. The workroom now has four professional upholsterers working on various pieces of furniture for customers. This can range from a cushion cover to a three piece suit. The company has undertaken work from a variety of people such as titled Ladies, artists to royalty, Pop Stars (a pink latex bed for Nicki Minaj’s world tour 2018), partners in top London banks and Mrs Judge from around the corner. She gets to visit the most amazing houses including one once owned by Chris Evans and Mary Wondrausch's unique home crammed with her pottery. Sarah continues to expand the shop and fabric accounts with fabrics available from fabric houses such as Designers Guild, Romo, Osbourne & Little, Christian Lacroix.

One of the most exciting and unexplored worlds isn't located out in deep space like so many people believe. This largely unexplored world covers 70% of the surface of our own Earth and is a sustaining factor in our ecosystem. A spacesuit isn't needed to explore the otherworldly forms found beneath the surface, but proper dive gear can extend the stay. The easiest way to feel like you have been transported into another world is to scuba dive. Not only is the imagery alien, but a diver feels weightless as well. Add to this the feeling of carrying the life-support pack dive tank and viewing through dive masks and the diving experience can truly feel out of this world even though the diver may be actually getting closer to their evolutionary roots. Modern dive equipment allows the diver to experience underwater locations with incredible ease and comfort. Though the days of heavy hard to maneuver equipment are still around the trend has been towards more streamlined, sleek and user friendly designs that give the diver a better, less distorted field of view, increased locomotion and maneuverability, and allow longer dive times with less decompression. Even dive watches are becoming capable underwater computers that can calculate a number of dive situations simultaneously. These devices often work in tandem with advanced regulators that can preserve air and warn the diver of some potential dangers. One of the most promising diving developments is the introduction and use of re-breathers as opposed to regular scuba dive tanks. Typically a regulator will dispel the divers exhalation which contains dangerous CO2 as well as beneficial breathing air. This is the cloud of bubbles seen coming from most divers and not only does it scare away fish and other underwater life, but it contains a large amount of useful air. A re-breather uses a closed loop and air scrubbers that remove the CO2 from the loop and store it in cartridges. This is very similar to how the space shuttle recycles air in space. Not only does all the available air get saved for later use, increasing dive times exponentially, but here are no annoying and distracting bubbles blocking anyone's view or scaring away the wildlife. They are silent and surprisingly small, often smaller than two large dive tanks, and come with advanced dive computers and heads up displays. For technical diving, underwater filming, wreck exploration and caving a re-breather is absolutely essential and allows for an unprecedented range of movement coupled with the longest dive times. It is no wonder these are preferred by Navy seals. Swimming with all that equipment can be slow and tedious even with the biggest diving fins which is why an increasing number of divers have begun using diver propulsion vehicles, often called dive scooters. Dive time is limited by the amount of air and exertion quickly uses that available air up even if using a re-breather. The easiest and most fun way to increase dive time is with a strong dive scooter allowing for the best out of this world exploration this side of the moon. I'm sure that a whale would be just as surprised to see a diver for the first time as we would a being from outer space.

Farmer Gow's is registered with the Oxfordshire Work Experience Scheme. The farm offers various work experience opportunities, depending on the age of the student. The details below are not exhaustive – and with up to 20 changes to the farm routine each and every day, throughout the year - students first and foremost need to understand and appreciate the very unique work experience opportunities which we provide. Students are interviewed prior to placements being offered. What's involved? Work Experience is expensive to provide - we therefore expect a huge commitment from students to achieve as near as possible balance between the learning opportunities provided and the work a student performs. If you want to work with animals, the very first thing you need to understand and accept is that they need 24 hour/365 day a year care – so you need to be committed. We don’t keep students who can’t make a regular commitment. Farmer Gow's is a private company providing public access to farming and the countryside. Our doors are open to the public for 358 days of the year - we therefore need to ensure that you work carefully and safely - with both our animals and our visitors. We will teach you to ~ listen carefully to instructions follow those instructions and provide feedback to senior staff on all elements of the task in hand We will encourage you to ask questions – but also to make notes so that your questions come after a period of training, rather than constantly interrupting the training. We will supervise you thoroughly until we are sure you can follow instructions correctly and accurately. As your confidence grows and your ability to correctly perform tasks improves we will start to 'step back' and allow you to grow in the level of responsibility we give you. We will challenge you - and if you work hard and listen carefully - you will have a fantastic time. You will learn loads and loads and loads. You will meet many new people and learn to talk to them, work with them, and ask them for help. And that's just in your first few weeks... Age 14-16 years ~ Key Stage 4 We offer a 2-week work experience for students in years 10 and 11. Students should apply by email, with brief details of their interests. Every applicant is invited to spend a 1/2 day on the farm, to assess their suitability for a placement. A placement is confirmed after the introduction day, by email. Age 16-19 years ~ Key Stage 5 Students may apply for a work experience placement from age 15 years and thereby start at 16 years of age. The farm provides ~ 'hands on' practical and technical training to students interested in veterinary and animal careers contacts for further work experience opportunities with local farmers, businesses and government departments involved in the agricultural industry opportunities for paid work once a basic level of competence is achieved opportunities for paid work during school/college/university holidays Depending on the background of the student we would normally expect ~ From age 15 years ~ Year 1 at Farmer Gow's January-March application to join the work experience programme. Student invited to spend a ½ day on the farm, working alongside an existing student, followed by a short interview with a senior member of staff. September ~ following a successful visit and interview, student begins a one-day per week work experience. Introduction to the farm's routines, learning about everyday feeding, watering, hygiene procedures, routine tasks, preparation of feeds for hand reared lambs and kids. You will assist with twice daily 'Meet the Animals' sessions. Mandatory – February ½ term holiday - a week’s work experience, either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday. Mandatory – Easter holidays - one week work experience during the school holiday - either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday. This is our busiest time of year so you will be working under pressure. Holidays ~ please note ~ We expect students to take no more than 2-weeks off during the May-June exam period. This is hay making time - and understanding grass growing and harvesting is an incredibly important learning experience. In line with statutory holidays students may take up to six weeks (i.e. 6 days) holiday per year – one of which days will be during the Christmas stand-down period. Year 2 One day a week continues through the autumn and winter months. Most students arrange off-farm work experiences during the October school holidays. Early spring - students work with newborn/hand reared lambs and kids, refreshing/strengthening/practising Year 1 skills Students are set weekly subjects on a whole variety of agricultural subjects for presentation to staff the following weekend. This rapidly expands learning and awareness. Mandatory - February ½ term holiday, Sun-Thu or Tue-Sat – lambing will really begin to make sense – it’s a fantastic time of year. This year you may be able to assist with a lambing, you will certainly be iodine-ing newborn lambs and giving ewes and lambs heptivac injections. Injections, castration, foot trimming, ringing, record keeping, ordering feeds ... there is much to practice and new jobs to learn. Mandatory – Easter holidays - one week work experience during the school holiday - either Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday. This is our busiest time of year so you will be working under pressure. You will be leading chick handling, egg collecting and egg boxing sessions. Customer service - you should be ready to start serving in the farm shop, welcoming visitors to the farm, helping them with chick handling - and serving them on the till. When you can do this, you will become a paid member of staff - if we have a vacancy. Working in the farm shop can only be undertaken when a student has sufficient knowledge from working on the farmyard. Visitors/customers have every imaginable questions and you need to be able to answer them with confidence and knowledge. You will be working with very young piglets, calves, lambs, kids, chicks, ducklings, turkey poults - and their adults. You will be ear tagging, worming, foot trimming, handling, feeding, moving – there’s never a dull moment at Farmer Gow’s. You will work with younger work experience students and with children on farm workshops – this will practice team leading skills Summer holidays - one week work experience (if required) on farm - or a week at another local farm/business. We will provide you with telephone numbers and a contact name. You will have a wealth of farm knowledge and handling experience on all the farm species - cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys. You will be able to lead small groups of visitors through Meet the Animals. You will be able to answer their questions confidently and accurately. These skills are particularly valuable for interviews with prospective employers/university You will understand the 20+ animal medicines we use each year to safeguard our animals; you will understand routine/seasonal tasks. You will be able to medicate - orally and by injection - our farm animals. You will be able to arrange other work experiences very easily - because you have reached a level of competence which will be useful to other farms and businesses. When you have passed your driving test - you will be able to join a high end dairy farm and enjoy learning about milking and the dairy industry - unless of course you have a parent willing and able to drive you to 4am milking. Post School and on to University or other employment We will be very proud of you and want to know how you are getting on We will welcome you back for summer/Christmas/Easter work We will continue to support you - with references and contacts for further work experiences Summary The above is a basic description of the work experience opportunity available at Farmer Gow’s. We expect a lot – but offer a lot in return. If the relationship doesn’t develop well – it is normally due to a lack of commitment from the student. We will tell you and we will end the placement. TutorStream's other contact details are set out on the Website, which is at https://TutorStream.net. A User may register on the Website as a Student or as a Tutor. A User may use the Website without registering, but if a User does register, certain information will be stored, making future visits to the Website easier. By registering on or using our Website, the User agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are legally binding – every User should read them fully before agreeing to them. (Please print or save these terms for future use as TutorStream will not keep a file copy specifically for the User and TutorStream cannot guarantee that they will remain accessible on the Website in future.) If a User does not wish to be bound by these terms, they should not use the Website. ("T") Where the person who agrees these terms and conditions contracts on behalf of a company/organisation, they hereby confirm that they have authority to act on behalf of that entity. Certain words are defined in clause 16 (Definitions) of these terms and conditions and are capitalised throughout. TutorStream Rights & Responsibilities This clause sets out what TutorStream promises to do: To help Tutors and Students to meet by allowing Tutors to advertise their professional tuition services on the Website, and Students to book and pay for Lessons To maintain a functioning Website, including communication systems, a booking platform and Online Classroom, wherever possible. TutorStream cannot guarantee that the Website will always be available, or that it will always work, but it will try to have it up and running properly at all times. Every now and again, the Website might need to be taken offline for maintenance purposes. To communicate any planned maintenance of the Website or Platform downtime. To use reasonable endeavours (which means to try hard!) to keep the Website free from viruses and worms. To use reasonable endeavours to check the identity of all Tutors and the background checks of Tutors who have Background Checked Status. (But if a Student is concerned about any Tutor, do not meet a Tutor alone.) To decide when a Tutor’s profile is sufficiently complete to be set live on the Website and be accessible by other Users. To communicate new Bookings, confirmation of Bookings and cancellations, to both Students and Tutors via the Website and by email (except where a Student or Tutor has chosen to alter their notification settings to exclude email communication). To endeavour to ensure that each Student’s payment of Lesson Fees and the payment of each Tutor’s Tutor Fees are processed promptly and usually within 9 days of a Lesson, when there is no Complaint or Failed Payment. To endeavour to ensure Complaints are considered promptly and in accordance with these terms and conditions. To endeavour to ensure that refunds to Students are made promptly in accordance with these terms and conditions. To endeavour to ensure that Failed Payments are processed promptly and in accordance with these terms and conditions. To take precautions TutorStream considers appropriate to protect Students' and Tutors' information. To monitor postings made on the Website and messages sent between Students and Tutors. TutorStream does so in the hope of helping Students and Tutors meet, but also to stop misuse of the Website, as set out in these terms and conditions.
