Defibshop was born in 2005. At this point people really did not know what a defibrillator was, despite it being common place in countries like America. If it was going to happen here in the UK we’d need to educate people about what an AED was, when they should be used, how important they were in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, the impact of using one to the casualty and how easy they are to use whether you are trained or not. For many years it has been an uphill struggle to educate people about defibrillators. Common objections include “Is it law to have one?” and “we’ve never needed one so far so why should I buy one?”, but, after years of education in the importance of early CPR and defibrillation in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), some changes in legislation, high profile incidents and saves by defibs such as Fabrice Muamba in 2012 and Christian Erikson in 2021, as well as the introduction of defibrillator training within workplace first aid courses, these units are now a natural extension of first aid provision. Today we have a highly knowledgeable team working to ensure the correct defibrillator is placed in the correct environment. All defibs deliver a shock of course, but it is important to take the environment into account as models vary and offer different functions. We have also been working with the British Heart Foundation to promote The Circuit, the UK’s national defibrillator network that is linked directly to the 999 ambulance response service and enables the operator to send a caller to the nearest available registered defibrillator, so potentially saving valuable minutes and saving more lives. Please register your unit if you have not done so already. We continue to put pressure on the Government to pass the proposed Automated External Defibrillator Public Access Bill to legislate defibrillators that are accessible to all in public places. Without this, people are going to continue to die from sudden cardiac arrest because there wasn’t a unit close enough to hand. That could happen to any one of us. An introduction from our Chief Executive Robert Candy… I started the Scaffolding Association in 2011 with the intention of creating an open and inclusive organisation that would provide unbiased support to businesses operating in the scaffolding and access sector. Since then we have made considerable progress with our strategic campaign to raise safety standards, strengthen skills training, improve the levels of scaffolding competence and extend our independent audit process to protect product and service quality. Our membership growth demonstrates that we’re creating a business framework that allows scaffolding contractors of all sizes to deliver professional services while improving the safety, and competitive nature, of the whole industry. Robert Candy The new Audited Membership category has been developed in line with PAS91 specifically to demonstrate that scaffolding contractors operate to the highest standards. It offers an independent third party audit, against a scaffolding-specific procurement standard. This move has been welcomed by house builders, local authorities and major contractors who now see the benefit of our members on their tender lists and construction sites. The health and well-being of the workforce is our number one priority. Our vision is one of workplaces that are incident- and injury-free, where everyone returns home safely. The Association continues work with designers, clients and other stakeholders to achieve this. The Association also meets regularly with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to learn from incidents and to work together across the industry to produce policies and procedures that benefit everyone. Safety alerts and standards have been prepared with the HSE covering a range of issues including edge protection and loading bay gates. Training provision and the setting out of best practice is one of the key strategic aims of the Association. We are creating a central hub of knowledge for the whole industry, and we’re committed to leading the way in the provision of world class training in the use of scaffolding. Our members represent a significant percentage of the sector’s capacity and our aim has always been to aid companies in expanding their services and capabilities safely and efficiently. Flying Training All flying undertaken by Instructors at Kemble Flying Club is categorised as training, whether it is a taster lesson or Trial Flight, a normal flying lesson, or one of our other experiences like ‘Pilot for a Day’. Whatever type of experience you decide to take with us there is a good deal of useful information for first time ‘pilots’ on the Trial Flight page. All flying training referred to can be taken in fixedwing or the flexwing aircraft. (See: Our Aircraft) Introduction Flying training is one of the most important aspects of what we do here at Kemble Flying Club. Whether you come to see us for a one off experience, for a series of training flights, or to complete a pilot’s licence we can, without hesitation, say this will be a rewarding, sometimes challenging, and, even a life changing experience! Of course some people come to us for conversion training, refresher training (we could call that advanced training) and for flying instructor courses. There is a magic about flying small aircraft, a thrill, it’s like we have cheated gravity to play in the sky. We have read and seen pictures of the pioneers of flight and the first powered flights were only a little over 100 years ago! We are constantly exhilarated by the flying experience, the feelings of buoyancy of the air, the spectacle of different cloud shapes and patterns and colours as the light dances around us. And, the views of the landscape, the masses of open spaces, woodlands, hills and rivers. From Kemble we only have to be upwards of 1,000ft above ground and we can see to the Welsh mountains to the west, the Malverns, and the Cotswold plateau stretching away to the north. We can see as far as Didcott Power Station to the east and Salisbury Plain to the south. You don’t actually have to take a ride into Space to see the World is a small place! Importantly training should be fun! You will learn so much more if you are enjoying it. At the same time Safety is our utmost priority and when you are on your way to becoming a fully fledged pilot then it will take some commitment and discipline.

As a former primary Head Teacher of three substantive posts and one interim headship, I now enjoy my role in providing independent consultancy support and challenge to leaders at all levels in a wide range of context. I am former School Improvement Partner (SIP) across four Local Authority areas, Ofsted and Diocesan Inspector. I am an accedited and experienced leadership coach and employ a coaching approach to much of my work with the school leaders. I have trained many leaders to become effective coaches and facilitated the implementation of a coaching culture in a number of schools. I continue to facilitate and lead the review of Head Teachers’ performance since its introduction in 2001, across many part of the country. I am tuned into the needs of governors with regard to this and offer training to governors who are new to the process. I have assisted the development of governing bodies in many areas of governance. NICKI BELL Former Head Teacher I first became a Head Teacher in January 1995 and was substantive Head Teacher of three schools and an interim Head Teacher of a fourth. Between my last two headships I worked for four years for a national training company in Cambridge that was, at that time, an affiliated centre for the National College. I was responsible for rolling out a number of a national programmes in the East region, including Leading from the Middle. I retired from headship in 2016. My final school was a three-form entry Infant and Nursery School in Birmingham judged by Ofsted to be an outstanding school. We were federated to our adjoining Junior school which was the lead school in a Teaching School Alliance, (TSA) and I was heavily involved in the CPD element of this. My career has offered lots of opportunities to do exciting things. I was a seconded National College Associate for four years supporting school leadership in the West Midlands. I have been lucky enough to write and deliver leadership training in many different places, the two most distant being in the Middle East and China. I now have two roles. I am Director of Primary Education for a Trust for 40% of my time and the rest of my working life is freelance, frequently working with Alistair. We write and deliver training for leaders, at all levels, in primary schools and develop resources to support head teachers with many of the bureaucratic tasks of headship. Alongside this I do a lot of 1-1 support of schools, acting as an Improvement Partner, supporting HT performance management and providing CPD.

Craft4Smiles C.I.C. is a crafting community that provides inclusive, accessible high quality creative papercraft and mixed media online programmes for adults. Our courses are social and interactive whether delivered online or in-person. Our aim is to introduce and build crafting skills, improve wellbeing and to develop the basic skills needed for success in the workplace and at home, including self-confidence, problem solving, communicating in a group, basic maths and English. We teach over 45 different paper craft and mixed media techniques. Each course is carefully constructed to help you develop your crafting skills and knowledge.   Crafting and our courses are mindful, taking us away from the day-to-day. Participants have consistently reported improvements in their wellbeing.  Anyone who wants to learn new skills can join our programmes.  No previous experience of papercrafting or mixed media work is needed. We have delivered courses successfully in Cambridgeshire for 6 1/2 years and have worked with 280 Cambridges residents during this time. 86% of participants state that what we offer has helped to improve their wellbeing. 75% state that it has made a positive difference to their daily lives.   Our Courses:   1.  Short Courses: Standalone 3 to 10-week/session courses. From Beginner to Advanced Crafter available from January 2025: a 40-week/session long course delivered over approximately 13-14 months that follows on from the Introduction to Paper Craft and Mixed Media 10 week course. Each term should be followed sequentially, however, you can book in 10 week blocks. There is a discount of 10% if booking all 5 terms.  During this course, you will be introduced to over 45 paper craft and mixed media techniques and will learn about the vareity of paper craft and mixed media materials and equipment available and how to use them. By the end of the course, you will be a competent crafter and able, if you wish, to start selling/your own business. The equipment provided includes an electric A4 die cutting machine and a variety of dies and a scoreboard. and basic materials and equipment e.g. glue, a variety of tapes, alcohol pens, acrylic paints. You do not need any previous experience of paper crafting to join this course.  Fees for all courses include all the materials and equipment that you need for each lesson - supplied in a package with kits clearly labelled by week at the beginning of the course/term.  This means that you do not need to have any materials or equipment of your own. For all courses, the equipment and any leftover materials from all courses are yours to keep. I am grateful the sessions lasted as long as they did which I appreciate is difficult. It gave me time to feel the maximum benefit of improved mental health and general wellbeing, confidence building, skill and creativity development, and helping me to deal with everything else that was going on in my life. Specific When the flyer for the course was emailed me at work on a general circulation I read it and thought it sounded like something I needed and would like to do. I felt so drawn to it I contacted you to see if I was eligible. I was so very tired. Worn out with two years of covid emergency response work on top of my day job, pretty much spending 7-7 at my computer each day. In addition my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and I decided to leave work in March 2022 to spend more time with her and care for her and support her children. Another member of my family was struggling with her mental health and I needed to spend more time with and supporting her too. Taking early retirement had a significant impact on my finances as I was only 60 and this was going to put pressure on us but as a family we agreed where my priorities needed to be. I was feeling overwhelmed, anxious and very low. The accessible, friendly, welcoming, creative space helped me cope. Initially it was time for me. Then it was something to look forward to and something to share. It was fun, relaxing and easy to lose yourself in making something and learning new skills. When things deteriorated for me, it was a constant and a safe, supportive environment. We may not have met the other participants in person but we soon bonded and cared for each other. It was Ok to turn up and not talk, not have your camera on, or to share sad news or how you were feeling. I will miss it and need to continue to carve out time for me to maintain the benefits going forward.

Seeing a potential for a courier company that could connect the whole nation, Mian Jehangir Shahid established Leopards Courier Services Pvt. Ltd. in 1983 with five destinations in the country. I’m an e-learning professional with an MA in Online and Distance Education, but more importantly, I’m someone that is very passionate about education and technology’s role within it. WHY HAVE YOU MADE THIS SITE? This website is the successor of my Multiple Tracks blog which was a free WordPress blog site. I chose to go down the route of getting my own hosting to increase my options on what I can do with my content and, crucially, for me to learn how to create my own website using WordPress. WHAT WILL E-LEARNING MATTERS BE ABOUT? The content I’ll be writing about will naturally revolve around e-learning. However, what is e-learning and why should you care about it? The ‘e’ in e-learning stands for ‘electronic’, so e-learning is learning using electronic technologies. This learning can be a part of a course or curriculum or it can account for their entirety. Typically, e-learning is seen purely as online learning where learners engage with materials via the Internet. This website will not be solely looking at online learning, however. I’ll be discussing the wide variety of issues that fall under the roof of technology enhanced learning or educational technology. I’ll be doing this in all my blog posts when a particular term comes up that I feel readers may be interested in because I am committed to making this website a hub for people to learn about the field of educational technology.
