Hello, I am Kathleen (Kate) Picken and live near Kirkcudbright, a beautiful town on the South West Coast of Scotland. I studied music at Aberdeen College of Education and started my teaching career in secondary. After a break when my family were young, I took up a post of teaching music in primary schools, in the area in and around Kirkcudbright, a job I have been doing now for over 35 years. I also lead and sing in an adult vocal group ‘Taste of Country’ and I am the Music Director of ‘The Farmers Choir’ I enjoy creating and developing music resources which show clear progression across the levels in Curriculum for Excellence (the national curriculum for Scottish schools for learners from the ages 3–18) to help support teachers in the delivery of music to their students. I have delivered several music workshops at the SAME Conferences over the years along with presenting online. My work currently involves teaching music in primary (age 5 – 11), running ‘after school’ music workshops on group piano/keyboard, bucket drumming, leading a junior choir and creating and developing primary music resources.

Hello my name is Chelsea and welcome to Greens Yoga. I am a yoga teacher specialising in yoga for women’s physical and mental health and wellbeing, in Edinburgh and the Lothians. I teach small group classes and private yoga sessions specialising in pregnancy and postnatal classes, I also offer beginner friendly vinyasa flow style classes and yoga nidra for those who have trouble with sleep, anxiety and stress. I am always learning to upgrade my skills and knowledge whether it be through courses, reading or being taught by other teachers. I have recently completed my fertility yoga training with Naomi Murphy from Real Fertile and Sally Parkes Yoga, i am excited to soon be offering women’s wellbeing focused classes. There are many different styles to practising yoga that it can make the journey to starting your first class slightly daunting. Here I’ve decided to help ease your mind and break down the styles of yoga I teach which will hopefully make your decision a little bit easier when choosing the style for you. As we all know, this year has been incredibly hard for individuals and businesses alike, and our club has been no exception. With the gymnasts in mind, we have looked at all of our options for continuing to offer the children the very best gymnastics provision we can, and so we are incredibly excited to announce that from the new year, your child will be a part of Nile Wilson Gymnastics. Olympian Nile Wilson is leaving a huge legacy in the world of gymnastics by opening the doors to clubs, with the goal of allowing as many children to experience gymnastics as possible, at all levels, by delivering unique and engaging activities. (If you haven’t yet – go and check out his YouTube channel!) With the Nile Wilson team comes brilliant opportunities for all the gymnasts in the club, and we can’t wait to see what the future brings. We know that you may have some questions and we’ve tried to answer some below: What changes does this mean for my child? Right now, there are no changes to the running of the club – you will see all the same familiar faces when you come in, and your class times and payments are staying the same. When is the Christmas break? Our Christmas close-down period remains the same – 19th December – 1st January. The club will re-open in January as Nile Wilson Gymnastics Coventry. All communication regarding future close-down periods will be communicated in due course. Do I need to do anything? No. All direct debits will stay in place ready for January and your child’s session time won’t change. Just have a wonderful Christmas and come back in the new year ready to go! Now, all that’s left to do is say a big thank you and Merry Christmas to you all and to hand over to the team at Nile Wilson Gymnastics...

Siawns Teg is a social inclusion charity that works in the community of Powys to break down the problems and issues surrounding unemployment, personal learning opportunities and health. Siawns Teg has a highly motivated and experienced team of Trainers and mentors and is connected to a number of other local support groups with similar ideals. We are well known locally and internationally for our innovative and effective ways of engaging people in their own destiny and opportunity. We challenge two misconceptions: 1. Some service providers say that “people with problems are hard to reach”. We say that people with problems often don’t have the resources to travel and research what services are available. The problem is that people find services hard to reach. We believe that service providers should be working to break down barriers of access for people they aim to support, not the other way round. 2. Some funders provide money for organisations like Siawns Teg based on the numbers of people who will benefit. In Powys numbers are much less than in urban populations, and so outcomes for funders are not so exciting. We believe that the problems facing people in rural areas are just as difficult as for those people in urban cities, and that rural communities should have the same opportunities. What we do Siawns Teg takes pride in helping people to help themselves. We do this impartially and without discrimination, regardless of what situation, difficulty or problem comes through our door. We provide a holistic approach, working with individuals either alone or in groups to look at problems and planning solutions. We are good at supporting people to fit in with their community at work and play. We see it as a community effort, that is not only a problem for the individual, but one for the community as well to help address. That’s not to say that individuals can dodge the responsibility, each person is motivated to see what they can do and to own their progress. We run local courses and mentoring for individuals that guide people to realise their worth to themselves and the community. The course are tailor made and can cover anything from giving people confidence to attend a course to starting their own business. Some courses carry a recognised qualification! Our style of support is unique and proven with partner organisations in Europe. We have a high success rate of engaging with the unengaged, and getting people into work.

Companies, banks, critical infrastructure and Government Offices are under constant attack by hackers who try to break through firewalls, steal information and in some cases hold the companies to ransom for the release of their data. Companies spend Billions of Pounds defending themselves from as many as 200,000 attacks per day by using Coding and Cyber Security graduates and apprentices. Females make up 50% of the UK populations, yet only about 12% of the IT/coding and cyber workforce is comprised of women. CYBER GIRLS FIRST is attempting to change that by demystifying the idea that only boys can succeed in IT, and to point out that Chief Executives of companies around the country are desperate to recruit women into their cyber departments. During WWII, more than 60% of the codebreakers at Bletchley Park were women, so why have the numbers decreased? We are bringing in girls aged 11-14 from local schools to give them a day of IT, coding and cyber security, with talks by women who have attained high levels in management in these fields. Why this age group? Because we hope to encourage girls to take up these subjects before they reach the age when they have to choose their two-year GCSE courses.
