The spirit of the Centre’s aims has remained unchanged for over 100 years: Swarthmore seeks to inspire lives through friendly learning within a commitment to equality of opportunity Swarthmore is a centre for lifelong learning, community projects and family learning sessions as well as the courses and activities. Our main aim is to encourage people who want to learn but might not feel comfortable in more formal educational institutions. We work on a friendly, human scale. Many volunteers currently support the Centre’s work, and we welcome their contributions of time and energy. The Centre was founded by members of the Quaker movement in 1909 with the aim of including and involving people in learning activities and making sure that people were treated with equality and respect. Two members of the Society of Friends remain on our democratically elected ‘Council’ of Trustees, made up of Centre members and representatives of community organisations with shared aims. Swarthmore is a not-for-profit registered charity, and a company limited by guarantee. Our Grade II Listed Building has a fascinating history and is made up of six four-story terraced houses with additional dance and art studios to the rear. We have specialist facilities for pottery, jewellery, stained glass and sculpture, and the atmosphere is intentionally homely and informal. We also work within the local community on negotiated projects, including arts and ‘Skills for Life’ programmes. Many groups and individuals make use of the Centre as a community resource, providing facilities for a wide variety of local groups. Swarthmore attracts a social mix of people who come to the Centre because of their shared interests in learning rather than their background. We offer room hire at competitive rates, and welcome the public to use our café facilities. These unique learning opportunities are available through the collective expertise of a team of artists with extensive experience of delivering art workshops in and around Kent, connecting groups to natural and urban environments across a range of arts disciplines. Our activities also focus on the rapidly advancing impacts of climate change and we are proud to have joined Culture Declares. We are printmakers, painters, writers, textile artists, photographers, film-makers, sculptors, craftspeople, ceramicists, and sound artists. Outdoor Studios provide Full, Half Day and Bespoke workshops and activities, and accept Commissions. Get in touch to talk to us about artist-led workshops and programmes, either at your school, workplace, community centre, a natural or historic site, or our regular haunts – King’s Wood Ashford, Oare Gunpowder Works in Faversham, and Milton Creek Country Park in Sittingbourne. My name is Mike. I have been involved with agriculture and agricultural engineering all my life. Farming both arable and livestock. City and Guilds / NPTC assessor since 1989 Freelance instructor for LANTRA since 1990 End Point Assessor since 2019 for Landex / LANTRA (LBAL) Leading apprenticeship programmes for both agriculture and agricultural engineering apprentices as tutor and assessor since 2009. Recently being harvesting technical trainer for AGCO based at Stoneleigh Originally completed a 4 year apprenticeship in agricultural engineering, I moved to become demonstrator and technical support for several years before becoming self-employed carrying out many hundreds of fork lift truck and pesticides either training and / or assessments. I have always made sure that I can actually competently 'do' the task that I am asking the candidate to do. This way I am not only credible but can demonstrate and show people rather than just tell them. I will always attempt to tailor a course to suit individual needs if I can.

A consultant on the HSEs consultant register Tudor specialises in support for the Education and Work Based Learning sectors. The company however has clients drawn from many sectors, and in delivering Occupational Health and Safety Practice NVQ at Level 5 has candidates drawn form large national PLCs, including The Royal Mint, Magnox, as well as the armed forces, police and health authorities... Sylvia Williams Sylvia worked in the education sector for 27 years before joining DTD Training Ltd. in 2005. During her time in education she taught at all stages and developed new national qualifications as well as being responsible for work experience and work based learning. Since joining DTD Training Sylvia has developed her own competence levels in health and safety as well as broadening her experience across a number of sectors.
