Originally focused on sharing online learning content amongst government bodies, we took that concept and built out the offer to enable performance improvement and modernisation. We offer an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience at Samuel Whitbread Academy in an outstanding learning environment where students are expected to work hard and achieve their best. In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged as ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and over the next three years we have set ourselves the target of being Outstanding! Our GCSE results are amongst the best in the local authority. We offer a well-balanced curriculum with plenty of choice to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives. Most of our students continue on to the Sixth Form, which is one of the largest and highest performing in the area - providing students with a huge range of courses designed to match the expectations of universities and employers. Our pastoral care is exceptional and we have dedicated pastoral support teams for each year group. The academy is also broken down into five houses, named after people who have made a distinctive contribution to our community. Stephanie Burgess aka ‘Marina Red’ is an established zine creator and writer from Cheshire. She is one of the original riot grrrls, having played in punk bands throughout the 90’s. She runs her own fanzine and blog riotgrrrlzine.co.uk, which forms part of her postgraduate research into the Spanish alternative music scene, but also covers Riot Grrrl and punk bands from throughout Europe. She is an old skool paper ‘zine creator, who crafts her ‘zines by hand using collage and a mixed-media approach, creating unique pages and art which are highly representative of punk zine culture and influenced by the Washington Hard-Core Riot Grrrl Scene of the early 1990s. In particular, Kathleen Hanna’s Riot Grrrl Manifesto, which was first published in a ‘zine in 1992. She has written for a variety of online music publications, is a published writer and translator, and also runs creative writing and ‘zine production masterclasses. Currently working towards her PhD “In Search of Spain’s Riot Grrrls” for Manchester University, she has over 20 years experience of both academic study of the writers and musicians of the last century. As a hispanophile with an MA in European Languages and Global Cultures, she can draw upon her deep understanding of the function of language within the creative process and has thus developed her own technique for inspiring others to be creative in a similar way.She is an avid fan of alternative music and has an extensive record collection dominated by female musicians. She can still be found most weekends flicking through the vinyls and CD’s at her nearest music shop or dancing her fishnets off at a punk gig!

Hi, I’m Jane Barrett, co-founder of The Career Farm and co-author of “Taking charge of your career”. I started my career in in-house recruitment (recruiting MBAs for PricewaterhouseCoopers) and retained search consultancy for blue-chip clients, private companies and start-ups across a variety of sectors including Finance, IT and FMCG. As a recruiter it was clear to me that many well-qualified MBA and Masters candidates were poorly prepared for the interview process, and were unable to explain what they wanted and what they had to offer. This lack of preparation meant that good candidates were failing to get offers. We founded The Career Farm to support the careers teams at Business Schools across the UK and Europe, using our 3-step “GPS” process to help students get better jobs on graduation. Over the years we’ve worked with thousands of students, originally in face-to-face workshops and more recently through our online courses. The Bigger Picture The work we do with Business Schools and our corporate clients helps to support “The Future of Work”, a not-for-profit initiative aligned with the UN Sustainability Goals that gives young people an opportunity to explore the jobs that will help our economies and communities meet the diverse challenges of the 21st century. Our mission is to help individuals and communities to mend the widening gap between cultures, races, generations and people of different wealth for current and future generations.Naftali Manddy Onchere is the CEO of Mend the Gap and is responsible for the day to day running and management of the organisation in consultation with David Seabright, Francis Montagu and James Nzala. Naftali brings more than 26 years’ experience in project and organisational management in the UK and overseas. He has a BSc Honours degree and is a former teacher and qualified trainer. He has served as a Director at Tolerance International UK, ACORD UK, Motivation Charitable Trust UK; Programme Manager at Netherlands Foreign Service and ETC East Africa Consultants BV; etc. He has extensive experience with youth, intergenerational and inter-cultural work and training both in the UK and in Eastern Africa. James Musau Nzala James Nzala is the Let Us Connect Programme Co-ordinator in Kenya. He has a BSc IT degree and is qualified in advanced web design (PHP, MySQL database, CSS & JavaScript coding), software and hardware trouble shooting and repair, IT-user training, and network building and management. Ben Ferguson Ben was one of the first to pioneer gap year experiences in Kenya with Mend the Gap. Since then he has become a long term volunteer and brings a wealth of business and hospitality experience to the organisation. He looks after our communications and relationships with our business partners. Nicholus Ole Murero Nick is Rifts Valley Co-ordinator for Mend the Gap in Kenya. Simon Ole Kerempe Simon is the Projects Officer for Mend the Gap in Narok, Kenya.
