City of Aberdeen Gymnastics was first developed in 2007 and officially formed in 2010, by the amalgamations of Bon Accord Gymnastics Club which was set up in 1992 and Granitehill Gymnastics Club which was set up in 2001, making it not only one of the largest but also the longest established and most successful club in Aberdeen City. The club has worked hard to reach this success with collectively over 500 years gymnastics experience within its work force. The Club and all its members are registered with our Governing bodies. Over the years, the Club has had great success at local level through to National level gymnastics. The club is made up of several disciplines of gymnastics and is open to all levels and genders. Our major work force of Coaches, Judges and Committee are made up of highly motivated and dedicated volunteers who continue to give up their time to promote the sport for all. Our Team are all registered through British and Scottish Gymnastics, holding current Safeguarding and are PVG Checked. Coaches and judges are trained to a high standard holding qualifications through British Gymnastics structure, from our Assistant coaches and Club judges through to our High performance coaches and National judges. 2014 saw the Club successfully gain Excellence in Grampian Sports Clubs CLUBCAP, and was awarded Enhanced Accreditation. 2015 saw a partnership form with Sport Aberdeen. The success of which has been very exciting for the club and it continues to grow. We also boast that at present we have 3 generations of the same family coaching within our structure.

What is it like to start my own business or to sing in a theatre? I love science, I’d love to learn how to canoe and abseil? The answer to all these questions can be found at Richmond. Our students experience life at work, perform on stage and embark on local and international expeditions with teachers leading these events who share their interests and wish to develop them. On visiting, there’s an immediate sense that it is more than just a school, it’s a community within a community and students, visitors, parents and staff often comment on the special buzz they feel when they are here. It’s hard to pinpoint, but it’s a combination of many factors that unite to make this such a special place. Dedicated teachers, fabulous facilities, a wonderful heritage, a sense of belonging and incredible students, are just some of the elements that make Richmond School and Sixth Form College such a special place to learn. We were very proud to be awarded the 2021 School of the Year in the Northern Echo Education Awards, in recognition of the many brilliant facets of the school and the community it serves.

Yolande’s first introduction to yoga was back in 1994, when a friend took her along to the local sports centre, to explore what this ancient form of “exercise” had to offer. The class was full and felt and smelt nice. A waft of incense and the subtle background sounds of Indian chants welcomed them in and she was kind of already sold at this point. The teacher a wonderful women called Sharon, from the sivinananda linage, spoke softly and taught various breathing techniques and body postures, that left her feeling strong and relaxed at the same time. She returned each week, and yoga has been Yolande’s bedrock ever since. Over the years Yolande has felt privileged to have spent time with many great teachers, all offering their own perspectives and experiences of yoga which have inspired, and paved the path for her own healing and transformation. After many years of practicing Yolande went on to study with Katy Appleton of appleyoga in London for her 200hr Yoga Teaching certificate, so she could go on to teach her passion, pregnancy yoga. Yolande studied pregnancy and postnatal yoga with Nadia Narain at Triyoga in London and as an Active Birth Teacher with Janet Balaskas. Yolande has also been supporting women and their partners as a birth doula since 2013. Having established a teaching practice the call to study deeper lead her to Rishikesh, India to study with Akhanda Yoga, under the guidance of Yogrishi Vishvketu, and complete 300hr Advanced Yoga Teaching certification and was given her spiritual name Jeevika Devi.

The founder of Pushkin House Maria Kullmann was one of the few women of her generation to have a degree in theology. In her youth she became personally acquainted with the philosophers of the Russian Religious Renaissance who made the journey to the West in the legendary ‘Philosophers’ Ship’: Nikolai Berdyaev (1874 - 1948), Sergei Bulgakov (1871 - 1944) and Nikolai Lossky (1870 - 1965). Their writings, as well as those of Vladimir Solovyov were explored in depth in lectures and talks at Pushkin House. Nikolai Lossky frequently visited from Paris and also gave talks. Across the border in Soviet Russia, the works of Bulgakov, Berdyaev and Lossky were published in self-published ‘Samizdat’ form: the intelligentsia considered religious discourse as providing a theoretical platform that could inform resistance to the regime - alongside a discourse on human rights and continental philosophy. The charismatic head of the Russian Orthodox Church Diocese of Sourozh Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom) (1914 - 2003) regularly contributed to the programme at Pushkin House. He spoke on a wide variety of topics including Russian Christian thinkers and Nikolay Fedorov, the founder of Russian Cosmism. Among his lectures was one entitled ‘On Faith and Deed’ that was published as an essay and became an influential text within the Russian Orthodox Church community, as did ‘On Russian People’s Faith’, recordings of which from the Pushkin House archive can be listened to at this exhibition. In many ways Metropolitan Anthony defined his faith and beliefs through his lectures at Pushkin House, which were to have a great influence within the Russian Orthodox Church and beyond.

Inspectors will use their professional judgement to consider the effectiveness of your provision on children’s all-round development. So… How do you: 👉 Enable children to be increasingly independent? 👉 Prepare children for life in modern Britain through the development in their understanding of fundamental British Values? 👉 Enable children to form secure attachments? 👉 Foster and nurture a sense of belonging? 👉 Expand children’s vocabulary to enable them to vocalise or communicate their thoughts and ideas? 👉 Create opportunities for children to manage risk? 👉 Encourage children to reflect on their differences and understand what makes them unique? The New Education Inspection Framework places a greater emphasis on care practices and children’s independence within this area. 👏 Also within personal development comes the importance of sharing information with children around the dangers of the internet and how children can keep themselves safe.👏 Also Ofsted’s phrase ‘prepare children for life in modern Britain’ brings into play the importance of British values. The key pillars of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for those of different faiths, needs to be evident within your practice. Leaders must ensure that the approach taken has meaning and relevance for children of different ages and is not just seen as a tick box exercise.
