Amber Rose Wellbeing

England,

Through personal experience, I know how vital self-care is. I have designed some classes to allow people to take the much needed time away to relax, which in turn will reduce their stress and anxiety. I feel it is even more crucial now as we are dealing with so much uncertainty around us! What is hypnosis? Well, before you say it, no it isn't turning people into chickens! Hypnosis allows you to go into a deep relaxation. Once in a relaxed state, guided imagery is often used alongside positive suggestions such as "you will have a calmer and more positive week". It is important for me to point out that you remain in complete control throughout the whole experience. Many people have said that they have left feeling totally calm after the experience and it is often seen as a way of escaping from reality for a little while! In my practice I use a combination of techniques and tools to tailor make the experience for your individual and specific needs. I work in an integrative approach and deal with many issues at once as I believe they are all interlinked. I am bound by an ethical framework and I am part of the National Hypnotherapy Society and National Counselling Society. I offer training and 1:1 sessions. Even if you do not decide to go with me, please ask the therapist what qualifications they have, this is something I feel strongly about as when working with you we need to be open and competent in our ability to help you to feel the best you can. Feel free to click the link below to find out more about what I can offer you and please do feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Universal Yoga started in 2004 when Charlotta completed her Teacher Training Certificate and moved into the village, initially we ran classes at the Conygre Hall and the Congregational Church Halls in Timsbury, only in 2008 did we get a space of our own at Red Hill, soon outgrown, we decided to move to Dunkerton Hall, a beautiful little parish hall which we get to have all to ourselves. Universal Yoga, as the name implies is a centre for everyone, young and old, pregnant and babies. We are all from the Sivananda lineage and we strongly believe in the yoga of synthesis, meaning that each class should be a combination of postures, relaxation, breathing exercises and sometimes meditation. Both Charlotta and Becky are Senior Yoga Teachers and as such, run a Teacher Training course every year. We believe that nothing should stand between you and your yoga class, so if there are any financial concerns, please get in-touch to see if we can help in some way. Yoga means union, union of body and mind, union of you and me and union of us all with the planet. With these kind of connections deeply rooted in our minds and hearts, we become kinder and more compassionate people with a focus on wellbeing for all. Welcome. Charlotta and the team All our face-to-face weekends are held at Dunkerton Parish Hall, The Hollow, Dunkerton, Bath BA2 8BG This section of the site is to provide some more information about the centre, about yoga, about the teachers and for information you may want and we haven’t thought of yet. So if you do have questions or if there are topics we haven’t covered please email us on info@universalyoga.com

Elaine Whittaker - yogabeing

elaine whittaker - yogabeing

My name is Elaine and I love yoga! I've been enjoying yoga myself for about 45 years and teaching for 15 years. My Bicester yoga classes are gentle and mindful. No rushing from posture to posture. We take time to be. My aim when teaching is for you to be comfortable, relaxed and happy. For you to feel calm and confident, free from physical tension and mental stress. Most of the ladies in my classes are in their 50's, 60's and 70's and appreciate the more gentle approach I take in teaching. Classes start with a short period of breath awareness, followed by some gentle warm up movements. Then we enjoy some postures (asanas) often in the form of sequences so you can lose yourself in the soft flow of the movements. We finish with some breathwork (pranayama) and a lovely relaxation leaving you feeling calm and peaceful. I like to drip in little glimpses of the philosophy behind yoga and will sometimes share a short reading or poem to enhance the mood of the class. In addition, I integrate aspects of mindfulness into my teaching. Whilst none of us can remove the stresses from our lives, we can develop coping mechanisms to avoid tension building physically, mentally and emotionally. Yoga can help you release tight muscles and improve your sense of balance physically and mentally. You learn to unravel the knots of physical, mental and emotional tension and gain a greater sense of wellbeing. Let your yoga class be an oasis of calm in a busy life... like pressing a pause button .. time to unwind and refresh. Beginners are always welcome - my gentle style of teaching means all can enjoy classes. Come and find your inner goddess .. that calm, tranquil woman who can sometimes become hidden in a busy life. At present I have two Labradors, and have owned and trained several Labradors and a German Shepherd (a rescue dog) as well as the family’s Shetland Sheepdogs and Miniature Schnauzers (together with a variety of birds and small furries!). I have been training dogs for over 35 years in a variety of disciplines, including Obedience; Agility; Gun Dog Training; Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme; Obedience Rally; Companion Dog Training - and even for a short film, “Her Dog” (2013), which you can watch online! Qualifications I have an Honours (2:1) degree in Ecology & Ethology, a MSc (Merit pass) in Applied Animal Behaviour & Welfare from the Royal (Dick) Vet School, University of Edinburgh; and a Doctorate (PhD) in Ecological Studies. KCAI logo large-min.JPG I have been helping owners train their pets in both classes and on a 1-2-1 basis for the last 10 years and initially qualified as a dog trainer with a local charity in 2011, before becoming a member of the Kennel Club Accreditation Scheme for Instructors in Dog Training and Canine Behaviour (KCAI). I am a KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme Approved Examiner (List A) for Bronze, Silver and Gold Award Levels. Drawing upon my formal behavioural, welfare and ecological training I can identify and resolve behavioural problems which cause a lot of distress for both dogs and their owners. I have a particular interest in helping dogs with anxiety or fear-related issues and investigated this for my MSc Dissertation: Investigating Relaxation Protocols designed for Companion Dogs (Canis lupus familiaris): Efficacy, Client Engagement and Perception. I am interested in Dog Cognition and understanding how recent scientific developments can be applied to Pet Dog Training and to help you understand the real reasons behind your dogs behaviours.

Yoga with Rebecca

yoga with rebecca

I was introduced to Yoga & Meditation as a teenager in the 1970s, have been teaching since 2014. Recognising the different qualities yoga can bring, I offer a range of physical styles, some very gentle and others more strenuous, along with meditation and relaxation. While I love the sense of strength, openness, and resilience, that a strong physical practice can offer, I’m increasingly astonished by the transformative power of more gentle and subtle approaches to bodywork, allowing a more intimate sensing of the body, the breath, and emotions and bringing an ease into being in the world. I embrace the variety and seek to share this in my classes as I draw on the influences of a range of body-mind practices – some thousands of years old, some contemporary – including Hatha Yoga, Yin-Restorative Yoga, Somatics, Feldenkrais & Yoga Nidra. I love to teach people of all ages and levels of experience in a way that encourages a deep inner listening with a sense of ease, pleasure, and fun. Someone said to me once, Yoga is too sacred to be taken over seriously! A typical class will start with a gentle enquiry into the body and breath, slowly adding movement (influenced by the Feldenkrais method), and gradually build into synchronizing breath and stronger movement (the meaning of Vinyasa), to then work with static posture alignment and/or melting into the meditative, less dynamic postures of Yin. Focus upon the breath is a vital part of all my classes, whether simply tuning in to the simplicity of a natural breath or more subtle breathing control and Pranayama. I sometimes include meditation as part of a regular class and also offer separate Meditation/Yoga Nidra courses. I love language, literature and philosophy and read and write as much as a I can – often weaving ancient Yogic texts and contemporary poetry or prose into the experience of my classes. I am Certified as a Yoga Teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga and as an iRest Yoga Nidra Teacher with the iRest Institute and am currently undergoing training in the Feldenkrais Method.

Providing interactive workshops in the community. I invite you to take part in community events whilst discovering and benefiting from Qi Gong, Meditation, and Sound Healing As well as being good for your posture and breathing! Qi Gong is recognised as a form of preventative medicine and studies have shown that those who practice it experience less anxiety and better moods. There’s no age limit, there’s no right or wrong, there’s just a desire to take part and nourish yourself in a shared environment. Qigong embraces nature and reminds us of the rhythm of the seasons. Movement meditations are designed for the physical benefits of improving posture and breathing as well as exploring internal resistance. The philosophy of Qigong is that nature is our teacher. Each session or workshop explores how to release tension, embrace change and harness the energy of the cycle of Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. After a career in Music and the hospitality industry, I re-trained in 2010 in therapeutic sound in the community and then qualified as an instructor in Tai Chi Qi Gong. I continue to study with the Deyin institute in the practice of Tai Chi and Taoist philosophy. Having learned transcendental meditation back in the 80s, self-healing had always been of interest. Having also qualified as a masseuse I have a background in dance and a strong interest in anatomy. I continued to explore using meditation as a means of relaxation whilst incorporating sound healing and movement. My joy is working in community groups with a variety of workshops and sessions I traveled abroad in 2005 to work for a charity in Sarajevo with PTSD sufferers and took some training in this area. I felt drawn to finding ways to help people with trauma to relax and to give themselves time to heal and explore their own physical and emotional journeys. Part of finding a life balance is something we all want to explore. I found the best way for me was a mix of progression in learning as well as in giving and helping charities and worthy organisations. Here’s a list of my contributions. It’s a privilege and not always financially possible but the philosophy is that in giving we receive so it doesn’t always have to be by paying out in money.

London

Aikido is a modern defensive Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba, referred to by many as O’Sensei (Great Teacher). Its emphasis is placed on spherical movement to create dynamic and explosive techniques that render an attacker harmless. Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. Move like a beam of light; fly like lightning, Strike like thunder, whirl in circles around a stable center. - Morihei Ueshiba Morihei Ueshiba MORIHEI UESHIBA, AIKIDO FOUNDER, 1883-1969 What is Aikido Aikido is often translated as "the way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the way through spirit and harmony". It operates on the principle or tactic of blending with an attacker's movements for the purpose of controlling their actions with minimal effort. The Aikido practitioner does not rely on muscle strength but concentrates the power of the whole body onto the weak point of an opponent, forcing him/her to cooperate using his/her own force and momentum. This attribute defines Aikido's effectiveness and beauty as a martial art. Several approaches to Aikido have evolved over the years. Today Aikido is found all over the world in a number of styles, with broad ranges of interpretation and emphasis. However, the core essential principles of the martial art remain consistent. WHY PRACTISE AIKIDO? Aikido is more than simply an efficient method of self-defense. In practice, there are various facets of Aikido - the power of focus and concentration of energy; the concept of blending and unified non-resistance; the awareness of self and others. Traditionally, Aikido is a form of Budo – a “martial way”. Unlike other arts, Aikido technique can be applied at varying levels of severity, from the most gentle controlling techniques to the most severe countermeasures. One question that people who practise Aikido are often asked is why they do it. Although many people think of Aikido as a martial art only for self-defence, it has a range of physical and mental benefits as well: Physical benefits of Aikido - Regular Aikido practice can, over time, improve: Balance Posture Flexibility Co-ordination Reaction speed General fitness Mental benefits of Aikido - Aikido also offers unique mental benefits through practice. Self-confidence Self-control Self-awareness Awareness of others Conflict management Stress management and relaxation
