I empower women by teaching them yogic techniques that they can then share with others. I listen to and guide women and help them find their purpose in life. I lead women to connect to themselves and others on a conscious level, promoting self love and self acceptance. I support and build community through women’s circles with emphasis on ritual and ceremony to life. My offerings are both online and in-person and include yoga teacher training, yoga classes, mentoring and life coaching. I am a registered Yoga Alliance and Yoga Detour Instructor I am from Halifax, UK and live at Yoga Beach House in France where I host my retreats, trainings and workshops with business partner, best friend and husband James (who is also a yoga teacher, relationship coach and retreat chef). Blackrock Athletic Club was founded in 1944. From a small beginning during World War 2 it has developed into the biggest athletic club in the country. The club evolved from a volunteer military unit and started out with around 20 members, many of whom first came into contact with athletics through inter-service (army) competition. Joe Hodgins brought the first national title in 1950 and since then it has grown from strength. In the initial stages, it catered for men only. The main reason for the exclusion of women from athletics stemmed from the church’s opposition to them participating in a sport that demanded physical exertion. It was to take a further 25 years before there was a change in attitude in this respect, which allowed for the introduction of athletic competition for women. The club has benefitted immensely from this development. A few efforts were made to get juvenile athletics of the ground before the current junior section was established in 1980. It has continued to grow and expand and today there is a queue up of young children waiting to get in. A Fit4Life section was introduced to the club in 2013. This development allows runners and joggers to enjoy all the benefits of running in a social, safe and organised environment. The club has come a long way in that it can now cater for everyone, irrespective of their ability, that wants to run. The club’s training grounds is at the picturesque Carysfort Park, Blackrock where it has been in situ since 1994.

When World War Two broke out the firm moved into the production of aircraft wings and it was to be peacetime before it turned its attention to plumbing, manufacturing copper cylinders and complete plumbing systems, mostly for Australia and the Middle East. As the markets for complete systems decreased McDonald Water Storage found itself expanding within the copper cylinder market. McDonald Water Storage is proud of its independent status – it is one of only a very few British independent manufacturers remaining in the plumbing and heating industry. The 1930’s saw the original company formed as McDonald Engineers by the McDonald brothers, motor and general engineers. WWII had McDonald Engineers rapidly expanding to three factories manufacturing various items for the war effort but mainly aircraft wings for Hudson Bombers and other aircraft. The end of the war saw them to move into new products such as pre-fabricated plumbing, sheet metalwork and vented copper cylinders. Financial instability in the 1960’s saw the company bought over by the Inglefield Group who employed James R Stewart (late Father of Bill, Jamie and Grandfather of David and Rachael) as managing director in 1960. JR Stewart performed a management buyout in 1973. At this time the main activities were prefabricated plumbing, vented copper cylinders (solar cylinders from 1968, foam lagging from 1971, coils from 1975), truck bodies and waste disposal skips. Due to declining markets and a recession, the decision was taken to close the steel fabricating factory in Kirkcaldy and rationalise the entire operation into the Loughborough Road, Kirkcaldy factory – concentrating wholly on copper cylinders and soon after, acquiring the BSI Kitemark. The company bought its first computer in 1986. 1990’s Huge changes! The company moved premises to Glenrothes in 1992. The POWERflow unvented system was launched the same year, soon followed by the THERMflow mains pressure thermal storage system. Jamie Stewart took over as Sales Director to support Bill Stewart as Managing Director and James Stewart became chairman. James sadly passed away and Bill also took on the role of Chairman. During the 1990’s, it was decided to pursue product specification by appointing two technical sales managers. The company website and emails were setup in 1996 one of the first in their industry to do so. In 2004 The Company bought the Amada CNC Punch Machine, our biggest capital Investment at that time. In 2006 the company self funded and built a 10,000sq.ft. factory extension to accommodate increased sales. More recently in 2018 Jamie Stewart became MD and David Stewart son of Bill, became Sales Director. The company took on a Divisional Director for England and to make it clearer to potential new customers what we do, changed our name to McDonald Water Storage and took on a full time marketing manager to spread the word! In 2020 amid the Covid strife, we celebrated our 75 year anniversary. A year of challenging trading and working conditions with the worldwide pandemic. Despite that we saw the Company all pull together to ensure not only survival, but indeed many improvements, growth and investment and several product launches with the introduction of MULTIflow, ELSOflow, WHEELIflow and COPPERtouch. A redesign and relaunch of our website was undertaken, with improved customer usability and a dedicated spares and online cylinder section.

We are part of Portsmouth City Councils Employment, Learning and Skills service. We are fully externally funded with the main source of funding being the contribution which comes through our contract with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) which we seek to supplement though other sources, such as The Good Things Foundations UK Online Centres. This means that we are able to provide certain courses free of charge, others at heavily subsidised rates and offer reduced fees for those on means tested benefits – see our Curriculum Strategy and Fees Policy for more information. We operate from our purpose built centre; The Learning Place, 6 Derby Road, North End, in Nelson ward and you are welcome to drop-in and see us to find out more. The centre core opening times are 9.00 – 16.30 Monday to Thursday, and to 15.45 Fridays. Our aim is to provide high quality learning experiences for adults living and working in and around Portsmouth. All teaching staff are trained to teach adults, with appropriate additional subject specialism qualifications and are required to complete annual training / professional development. We understand that for some, learning supports leisure and for others it builds capacity and skills, enabling them to get back to work, take a greater role in their community or better support their childrens learning. We therefore try to provide a responsive programme which maximises access to community learning for adults, bringing new opportunities and improving lives, whatever people’s circumstances, such as: Qualification based courses supporting readiness to work / employability including: Functional Skills English, maths and ICT from entry levels up to level 2 Food Safety in Catering Apprenticeships for those aged 16+ New accredited courses are being run regularly. The programme is subject to change and some courses with certain eligibility requirements are not always advertised on our website. We only have a limited budget but we do look to prioritise its use to meet identified demand, so tell us what you would like to learn and why! Many of our programmes can also be delivered in a range of venues, so if you represent a community or organisation and are interested in hosting some courses, let us know that too! In addition to the courses we deliver, a small proportion of our funding is allocated to enable quality contracted providers to be engaged, through a robust procurement process, resulting in a broader community reach. In 2021/22 our current key areas for development are: Work readiness, pre-employment skills including increased business / employer links internally and externally, to particularly support the ongoing development of Apprenticeship programmes. Digital inclusion: continuing to offer IT provision and seeking to use innovative solutions to support those who remain digitally excluded to engage with computers and the internet Health and Wellbeing: further developing the increasingly well documented links between learning, health and wellbeing. Penny Parks Training is the authorised training provider of Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT). Parks Inner Child Therapy provides rapid and painless resolution of trauma & childhood abuse to the many victims worldwide. Although originally devised in the late 1970s this therapy model has continually evolved to remain at the cutting edge of the resolution of trauma, childhood abuse & emotional challenges. It is probably the most effective model available with the most significant feature being that it can bring about change gently as there is no need to disclose any details of traumatic events. The rapidity of its effectiveness has been enhanced by the introduction, in 1996, of the PICT Quick Change model, devised originally to cater for clients from overseas; where resolution may be completed in a series of 5 consecutive days of 4 hour sessions. (The QC 4 hour sessions can also be offered in weekly, 2 or 3 day formats). Penny Parks Training also provides a valuable resource to clients, practitioners and health professionals, as well as anyone interested in the topic of childhood abuse and its related subjects. I help individuals and organisations use drawing & Sketchnoting to think, learn and work better. My work is grounded in L&D and OD practice gained over 30 years working in and with organisations as a consultant. Here are five ways I can work with you: Commission a Sketchnote - you could commission me to create a Sketchnote for you. Sketchnotes make use of a combination of words & simple pictures to make memorable notes. A number of clients have commissioned Sketchnotes of one-off special events and also for regular sessions to provide a visual record of the session - participants get to see the Sketchnote developing. Or you could get me to create a Sketchnote to communicate a particular message - in the past year I have created Sketchnotes to commemorate an organisational anniversary and to communicate a change in approach to wellbeing. You could learn to Sketchnote - I offer regular virtual workshops providing an introduction to Sketchnoting. I also offer these sessions in-house and have a version aimed particularly for students with a Sketchnoting for Studying focus. The sessions are practical and friendly. Thirdly, I have developed over the last year the concept of 'Reflect & Sketch' sessions in which drawing is used as a tool to help participants to slow down and as a prompt to reflection. I have tailored these sessions to integrate with wider leadership development programmes, sessions focusing on innovation & creativity and sessions on inclusion & diversity. Fourthly, I offer 'Relax & Draw' sessions which are short sessions based around drawing to encourage relaxation - each session has a theme which is often based around nature. Many clients have booked these sessions as part of a wider wellbeing offer.

After a four year degree studying French, German and Spanish - I decided the obvious thing to do next was teach English in Japan! Random - but I’m so thankful I made this decision: because it was my introduction to teaching and set me on the path as an educator. 3 years later, I trained as a yoga teacher in Scotland, before moving to Cornwall and deciding I wanted to be a Primary School Teacher. I wanted to share with kids so much about life and the world! Teaching was, admittedly, harder than expected. I loved elements but hated others. I’d always prioritised my health and wellbeing - but I found myself becoming stressed like I’d never experienced before. I know now that if I’d have continued to prioritise my own wellbeing, not only would teaching have been easier - but the children would have also benefited so much more. This is one of the key reasons Class Yoga is here: to raise the wellbeing of educators, so that the pupils benefit in turn. (Listen to more on this, here.) I believe we need to look after our own wellbeing to raise the wellbeing of our pupils I started to share yoga when I could. I got to see what worked and what didn’t; and I got a glimpse of some promising results. But when I left full-time teaching and started supply (and sharing more yoga) I started getting called back - to teach yoga! Because now the clear evidence, of greater calm and focus in children in the classroom after yoga, was shining out! So began my calling to teach yoga to more children, in more schools. Over this time, I developed and refined my method of teaching mindful movement to children, that I still teach and train others in, today.
