We are delighted to introduce to you Scallywags Children’s Nursery Loanhead. Opening in May 2016 we are a 50 place nursery, designed to a high spec in the heart of Loanhead. Situated on Academy Lane we have access to safe, traffic free, public footpaths and cycle ways to allow our children and staff safe trips out in to the local community. At Scallywags we are firm believers that children “Learn through play” and therefor offer a vast array of activities for children of all ages. With safety always being a top priority at Scallywags we have installed a camera buzzer entry system to the building and secure keypad entry systems to each playroom ensuring staff and children remain safe at all times. Your child will be cared for in welcoming surroundings harmonising closely with your normal daily routine. Our caring and energetic staff provide a stimulating environment to encourage your child’s development, noting each milestone along the way in your child’s Learning Journal. We pride ourselves on working with the local community and currently have a spare room in the nursery which will allow us to hold extra-curricular classes accessible to children attending Scallywags Loanhead. The Survey Association, known generally as TSA, is the trade body for commercial survey companies in the UK. The association was formed in 1979 to give a focus for private sector businesses in land and hydrographic survey. It is important to realise, however, that it is not a regulatory body. The role of TSA is to promote best practice amongst its members, provide a forum for members for discussion, debate and continuing professional development and, to the wider audience such as engineers and architects, provide guidance on new methods and techniques and a list of suitably qualified and experienced companies. Today, the association has over 200 companies in membership as full, associate, supplier, affiliate or academic members directly involved in the geospatial profession. TSA is also involved in lobbying Government departments when appropriate and other agencies such as the Environment Agency regarding policies likely to affect or involve the survey profession. TSA meets regularly with RICS and CICES on a range of issues and has established a group called the SLG, or Survey Liaison Group. This body convenes at regular intervals to examine matters of mutual interest and to ensure that there is little or no duplication of effort by the three bodies. Representatives from the Geospatial Commission also regularly join SLG meetings. The workshops are an excellent opportunity for adults/children to interact and socialise with their peers, through fun activities. Some of the activities that can be undertaken with the clay are designed so that individuals can have a go, on an individual basis, at creating with the clay. But it can also be used as a group craft experience too, where everyone contributes to a masterpiece. The latter approach is great for building up social interaction within individuals and for them to learn about team work, sharing and cooperation. It’s also such a sense of achievement for them to be involved in a group project and to feel very pleased with their contribution, however small or large. Thus, increasing self-esteem, and self-worth as a result. Taking part in these workshops can have significant benefits. For example, holding the craft tools, wire or scissors in their hands can help with fine-tuning motor skills. It also helps improve coordination and strength which will have long-lasting benefits, such as helping ability to write and use a pen. Working with the clay can also reinforce colour recognition, colour mixing, proportions, sequencing, listening skills and team work, communication and social skills. Workshops are fun and enjoyable for all participants and will help to boost an individual’s confidence in their own abilities.

Children Unite is a registered charity that promotes participatory approaches to working with exploited children. Since 2010 we have worked in over 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America with children's rights agencies and donors that are supporting exploited children and young people. Through consultancy : We work with NGOs and donors that support exploited children and young people. Our advice service builds organisations' capacity to integrate children's participation into organisational policy and structure, and develop programmes that are based on needs identified by children themselves. Our technical advice and consultancy includes programme evaluation and grant assessment, qualitative research and policy reviews as well as capacity building and training staff and children. Through our projects : We facilitate children's activism and advocacy in order to influence national and international policy and practice. We design and co-ordinate participatory research and projects that empower exploited children. We have successfully supported child domestic workers to campaign nationally and internationally; influencing the International Labour Organisation's Domestic Workers Convention and introducing local by-laws to protect children from exploitation.
