Control Shift

Control Shift celebrates computational arts that explore the messy spaces in-between humans, nature and machines. We bring people together to re-imagine our relationships with technology through dialogue and arts. We live in a world where machines increasingly collect information about us, reducing our bodies and the things around us to streams of data. In turn the digital realm can feel abstract, and out of our control. The stuff of computers and digital infrastructure is often hidden out of sight and huge power imbalances exist around who is making technology and who benefits from it. Yet the impact of our interactions with machines and technologies are very much rooted in the body, materials, and emotions. Through workshops, discussions, installations and screenings Control Shift brings creative and critical approaches to technology. Control Shift 2020 was curated by Becca Rose, Martha King and Rod Dickinson, and you can visit the archive to find out more about the programme. In 2019 we produced ‘You Make the Rules’ which was part of Processing Community Day (a global celebration of ‘art, code and diversity’ initiated by the Processing Foundation). Control Shift Community The Control Shift network is a collective of digital artists, educators, producers, and technologists from Bristol (UK) and working internationally. If you are interested in joining the network or finding out more sign up to our newsletter sign up to our newsletter. We have an extended network of partners, funders, supporters and mentors including Knowle West Media Centre, Arnolfini, Watershed, Furtherfield, Aksioma, and Processing Foundation. We want our events to be welcoming and inclusive and we use the Berlin Code of Conduct as our guide.

Psywarrior

Psychological Operations (PSYOP) and Psychological Warfare (PSYWAR), these words generate thoughts of North Vietnam's "Hanoi Hanna", Japan's "Tokyo Rose" and more recently the Iraq's infamous "Baghdad Betty" of Desert Storm. To others the words psychological operations and psychological warfare conjure up images of our military playing mind games with the enemy. PSYOP is all this and much more, for you see there are essentially two great forces in warfare:-the physical and the moral. These two forces suggest two distinct approaches to warfare. One a "direct" approach, concentrating on the opponent's physical forces, and the other an "indirect" approach, focusing on moral forces. Both of these approaches have been tried throughout history, with a noted lack of emphasis on the indirect approach until more recent times. This website will attempt to give new emphasis to the indirect approach by conveying a better appreciation for the application of psychological operations. So sit back and join me on a tour of the history of Psychological Operations, and what PSYOP is today. - The Life and Times of the "Psywarrior" - A Brief History of Psychological Operations - Links on the use of psychological operations/warfare during World Wars I and II, Korean War, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama (Operation Just Cause) Gulf War (Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Haiti (Operation Uphold Democracy), Somalia (Operation Restore Hope), Bosnia & Kosovo (Operation Allied Force), Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) and Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom). Also samples of leaflets and unusual PSYOP themes used by both sides in conflicts from World War I to the present, information on the 4th Psychological Operations Group, the Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (USACAPOC), the Psychological Operations Veterans Association (POVA), the PSYWAR Society, a Gulf War Photo Gallery, the Son Tay POW Rescue Raid, plus stories about two of our nation's heroes, and much more.

Baptist Union of Scotland

The Baptist Union of Scotland is a network of about 160 churches across the length and breadth of Scotland. We are local churches who recognise that if we are to fulfil the commission Jesus has given his disciples, it is better to work together than continue alone. We are a relational network who support one another through prayer and encouragement. We share resources and experience in mission. We equip and accredit leaders. We work together to develop vision and ensure legal compliance. We have existed as a network since 1869, though some of our churches have been in existence since the 1750s. Our ambition is to see Increase and we are focusing on three strategic priorities: Prayer – defining ourselves as a prayer network Planting Churches – investing in new congregations, revitalisations and innovative new churches Developing Pathways – for training and equipping church planters and evangelistic leaders The vision around which we gather is our Declaration of Principle, which states: That the Lord Jesus Christ our God and Saviour is the sole and absolute Authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws. That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried and rose again the third day. That it is the duty of every disciple to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
