My name is Carmela, I am Italian and I hold a full English teaching qualification in Post Compulsory Education and Training (Cert.Ed.)and a Qualified Teaching and Learning Status (QTLS).I also have a BA degree in Post Compulsory Education and Training from Warwick University. I have been teaching Italian for over ten years privately and for colleges. I have taught Italian at the Brasshouse language centre in Birmingham, at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and South Staffordshire College as well as delivering training for companies such as EXD Ltd. in Coventry, Arlani in Burton, Redrock in Birmingham and for private groups, reaching areas in the West Midlands, from Birmingham to Coventry, Warwick to Lichfield and Solihull. ITALIAN LANGUAGE CULTURE AND COOKING WORKSHOPS- ABOUT ME I grew up in a small village in a traditional Neapolitan family where we prepared local and classical Italian dishes, growing and preserving most of the food we ate. Preparing pasta or gnocchi for our Sunday lunch was a family get together event! We all helped and learned how to make things in a traditional way. During the major festivities such as Christmas and Easter the food preparation took weeks and families and friends exchanged their creations: Struffoli, Panettone and Pandoro at Christmas; Pastiera, Tortano or Casatiello at Easter; for Carnival we made Chiacchiere, and for father’s days Zeppole. There were times when we all went to zia’s house to cook pizza and bread in her stone oven… every occasion was special and gave us an excuse to prepare a traditional dish. Therefore, my love for the food and food preparation grew thanks to the area I was born and my family’s customs. When later I travelled as a student, I exchanged recipes with other people and grandmas from Sicily, Puglia and Tuscany. Therefore, the Italian cooking workshop is an opportunity for me to share with you, in my kitchen, what I have learned, and recreate together an authentic Italian experience.

Independent Dance (ID) supports the development of dance through radical enquiry, learning, community-building and audience engagement. Based at Siobhan Davies Studios in London, ID is a research engine and ‘home’ organisation for a growing community of practitioners in the UK and around the world. It has been artist and female-led since 1984. Our public programme supports a wide range of accessible and interdisciplinary approaches to dance, somatics, improvisation and choreography. Co-designed with UK/ international artists and partner organisations, this far-reaching programme includes classes, talks, workshops, research, digital initiatives and festivals. ID also bridges higher education and professional spheres, leading on MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional in partnership with Trinity Laban and Siobhan Davies Studios. Our aim is to generate a diverse and dynamic ‘community of practice’ which is not limited to one place or location and to agitate for positive change and justice within ID, the arts and society. Independent Dance is proud to be part of an ongoing National Portfolio Organisation consortium led by Siobhan Davies Studios, supported using public funding by Arts Council England. We follow the structured examination syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance and pupils are entered for examinations from Pre Primary to Advanced 2 level. However exams are not compulsory, importance is placed on enjoyment and appreciation of dance as a physical and expressive activity and art form. Body conditioning is incorporated into all classes from Grade 1 to Advanced 2 level. Contemporary Dance is also offered and considered an important part of the training of a classical dancer. The new Rambert Grades training program was introduced in 2020. Pupils are accepted into the school from 3 years of age and all are invited to take part in the school’s own production which is held approximately every two years at the Nottingham Playhouse. Having trained full-time at LCDD and taught in this country and abroad, Dawn and husband Jeremy moved to Italy to teach at Centro Internazionale di Danza in Cosenza. On return to UK they started Gedling Ballet School at the community centre on Shearing Hill in 1985, transferring to its present home at the Memorial Hall in 1986. Both of their daughters, Sarah and Susie, progressed from Gedling Ballet School to train full-time at the Royal Ballet School (White Lodge) and at Elmhurst Assoc. School of Birmingham Royal Ballet. Alongside a passion for dance and teaching at Gedling Ballet School, Dawn trained at Nottingham University as a Physiotherapist and worked within the NHS for a number of years. Dawn attends training events held by the RAD and Royal Ballet School and has completed the Royal Ballet School Inspire Series 1 and the first seminar of Inspire To Be Series 2. A former member of the RAD committee for the Midlands and East of England region and awarded life membership of the RAD in 2020 after 42 years of membership. Susie King Former pupil of Gedling Ballet School, performed with Birmingham Royal Ballet in a number of productions notably as young Morgan le Fay in the Ballet 'Arthur' at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and on UK tour with BRB. A Royal Ballet Associate student Susie at age 14 accepted a scholarship place at Elmhurst Assoc. School of Birmingham Royal Ballet, and then completed her training at Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance, BA (Hons) followed by Rambert MA. Professional work includes Ballet Theatre UK, Ampersandance, Royal Shakespeare Company and Medea with English National Opera at the London Coliseum. Former ballet coach at the National Ice Arena and dance teacher at NCN, Susie now also teaches for dance schools based in London and Watford. Susie is a qualified and registered teacher with the RAD and BBO Dance, and is a member of the new Rambert Grades training programme (Rambert Grades is accredited by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations Ofqual). Contemporary Dance Jeremy King Trained London School of Contemporary Dance. Former member of Lynx Dance Company and English Bach Festival Company. Taught at Centro Internazionale di Danza Italy, and various schools and colleges in the UK including Welsh College of Music and Drama. Former company manger and choreographer for Nottingham Youth Dance in association with New English Contemporary Ballet. In addition to teaching, Jeremy is the administrator for Gedling Ballet School and also percussionist for contemporary classes. Qualifications gained; BTEC National Diploma in Dance from New College Nottingham, BA (Hons) in Dance and Professional Practice (Performance Scholarship) from Coventry University and MA in Arts Management from Birmingham Institute for Art and Design. Lauren is a qualified and registered teacher with the IDTA. Lauren is also a certified teacher of PBT Adult Syllabus. Lauren teaches extensively across Nottingham delivering classes in settings such as Nursery/Pre-Schools, Primary Schools and Extra Curricula Dance Schools and Gymnastics Clubs. Lauren is now a teaching a mid week pre school class at Gedling Ballet School. About Bright I's Lead Consultant and Director Bright I's is about the professional development of teaching methods in Literacy that are driven by creativity in classroom approach that ensures progress and impact. Bright I's is the brainchild of Kala Williams, a leading practitioner who has taught in Coventry's secondary and primary schools for over 15 years both as a tutor and a qualified teacher. Having identified her area of specialism as Reading in Literacy particularly in KS2 practice, Kala has conceptualised a consultancy that is about practice through active lesson modeling, staff support and training as well as on the ground lesson delivery and coaching. She has successfully driven progress and attainment in all schools taught with her unique and systematic classroom approach that keeps pupils hooked, engaged and driven by high aspirations. She has taught across both Key Stages with particular expertise in Year 6 and Year 5. Despite being a new primary consultant, her passion for literacy has seen rapid growth in the first year of Bright I's conception. To date, she has trained over 100 teachers across the West Midlands, coached over 30 teachers one to one, delivered group reading intervention to over 150 children (KS1 and KS2) and has currently written a book on reading teaching due for publishing by 2021 with Bloomsbury Education.

Sarah Harris and Rick Johnstone, qualified school teachers and ASA swimming teacher trainers, have created a swim tuition programme designed to elicit best results from swimmers on an ongoing basis, by focusing on such important concepts as: MOTIVATION ENJOYMENT EXCITEMENT PROGRESS POSITIVITY SUCCESS We teach small groups of children, from complete beginners to advanced swimmers on the verge of competitive training. Our programme comprises of 8 attainment levels, with clearly defined criteria for progress from one stage to the next. We promote happiness and enjoyment in swimming and cultivate a success-filled environment for all, at every level throughout the programme.
