10th February Helen Lane #Agent121. Looking for: YA, NA, ADULT FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: YA, NA, ADULT FICTION Helen Lane is an editor and a Junior Agent at The Booker Albert Literary Agency. She is passionate about books and has spent the last decade supporting authors. She will happily offer her editing advice on manuscripts through I Am In Print but in accordance with her membership of the Association of American Literary Agents (AALA), guidelines state that any work submitted to her for feedback cannot be considered for agent representation. What Helen will do during your session is assess your sample and provide detailed feedback on any identifiable issues, the manuscript's commercial potential and what steps she would advise before you begin querying. She does not require personalisation in the letter, comparison titles or a synopsis, but if you have them already, please include them. As an idea of the genres Helen represents, she would love to see and offer advice on Adult Fantasy, Sci Fi, Horror, Paranormal Romance, LGBTQ+ Romance, Action & Adventure & Thrillers and will also look at YA Fantasy. Books Helen is slightly obsessed with include monster stories (especially if they have giant sharks or squids) and stories set in extreme environments such as the arctic, jungle, caves, ocean, and mountains. She DOES NOT want to read about affairs or abuse in any genre. (Her husband likes her to add here that this is nothing to do with him; she just doesn't like sad stories). Her favourite authors are Mira Grant, Greig Beck, James Rollins, Matthew Reilly, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Darcy Coates, Patricia Briggs & Kelley Armstrong. Helen holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of East Anglia and a postgrad qualification in Acoustics. She lives in London with her family and the world’s naughtiest cocker spaniel. Follow Helen on social media: @HFLane_writing Helen would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and first three chapters (Max 5,000 words) of your manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Helen is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event. You also agree to email your material in one document to reach I Am In Print by the stated submission deadline and note that I Am In Print take no responsibility for the advice received during your agent meeting. 17th February Alice Caprio #Agent121. Looking for: MG, YA, NA, ADULT FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: MG, YA, NA, ADULT FICTION Alice joined Felicity Bryan Associates in 2023 from London Literary Scouting, where she specialised in children’s, YA, and SFF and worked closely with publishers and media companies around the world. She is actively building a list that spans middle grade and YA fiction across all genres, commercial adult fiction, and romance and fantasy for all ages.  Alice is on the hunt for stories that are smart, commercial and bold, with a clear international appeal. She is looking for books with fresh and exciting concepts, whose voices can cross borders and speak out about important topics in an accessible and authentic manner. She is passionate about showcasing diverse and underrepresented voices in a joyful and uplifting way.  This year, she’d really love to find something special in the YA space. She’s open to all genres and is particularly interested in character-driven stories with lively storytelling, a strong emotional core, and attention-grabbing premises. She’s a fan of high-concept, speculative, historical and contemporary romance, heists, dystopias, and social thrillers with a twist.  In middle grade, Alice is drawn to sweeping adventures, big-concept ideas, and stories with a speculative or magical feel. She appreciates middle grade novels that do not talk down to the reader but remain fast-paced and fun. Some of her favourite authors include Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Michelle Harrison, Elle McNicoll, Jordan Lees and Jack Meggitt-Phillips. On the adult side, Alice is looking for fantasy that combines strong commercial appeal with a unique concept. She enjoys well-plotted, immersive fantasy with atmospheric settings and imaginative magic systems. She is currently on the lookout for something exceptional in the dark academia space. When reading romance, she is drawn to lively secondary characters, unusual set-ups, engaging dialogue and irresistible chemistry between the leads. She would love to find the next Emily Henry or Ali Hazelwood, romance with emotional depth and a compelling voice. Humour is a plus and she enjoys a good trope, if explored creatively. Alice is also open to working with authors within the romance and fantasy genres who have previously self-published, particularly if they have a TikTok or online presence. She’s not the best agent for hard sci-fi, horror and hefty epic/military fantasy with multiple-POVs.  Alice would like you to submit a covering letter, a one-page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5,000 words) of your manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Alice is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers.
