London

Yes, I was just another stressed out west Londoner. Busy-ness and exhaustion was my badge of honour. I was infatuated with agitation. As a journalist, novelist and mother of three, I saw life as an uphill battle to be won. Littered with lists, relentless self-criticism and unfavourable comparison. Until I read Professor Mark Williams book about Mindfulness. Everything he explained was obvious, but had failed to see it without Mindfulness practice. I immediately gained a decisive, calm, spacious joy and so much extra time that dramatically changed the quality of my daily life. After meditating for many years, finally, I took the plunge and went to study at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, Oxford University. I went on to teacher training with the internationally-acclaimed Mindfulness teachers Martin Alyward and Mark Coleman at the Mindfulness Training Institute. I am a certified teacher with the Mindfulness Training Institute and accredited to International Mindfulness Teachers Association. Once you can bring yourself back to being present, conscious and aware of your moment by moment experience, you can so easily navigate the inevitable difficulties, ups and downs that is the stuff of all of our lives. You have no fear, no anxiety, because you have the ease of knowing you can meet all your experience without resorting to knee-jerk habits and reactions that inevitably hinder rather than help you. Once you see clearly what is going on in your daily life, you can respond wisely, simply and freely without the narratives and stories we tell ourselves and others to try and make sense of ourselves and our experience. I really hope that I will have the opportunity to share this simple, yet life changing practice with you.

Human Story

London

HUMAN is a storytelling and strategy agency that creates media for social impact. We work with an array of public and private-sector companies, nonprofit and intergovernmental organizations to design objective-driven stories that come to life through branding, video, and digital media. Whether we are helping brands redefine their corporate social responsibility platform or creating original documentary content for a nonprofit, HUMAN helps an array of organizations strengthen their commitment to elevating humanity. We are Emmy nominated experts in how to use media to achieve objectives beyond awareness. Our researchers and strategists think across sectors to harness potential and direct that energy to create specific change and then layer story on top of the data. HUMAN carefully balances advocacy goals, scientific innovation, the best of media and storytelling combined with an authentic artistic voice to make nonpareil media for impact. What We Believe Δ is core to being human. The Greek letter Delta (δέλτα) is a symbol used to denote change. As humans, we are constantly evolving. When we change, we change the world around us. The opportunity to improve the human condition through storytelling inspires us to create and innovate. Change is our ethos. Human emotions are created by our experiences. These emotions are the primary influence of the choices we make. Collectively, these choices determine how humans behave which then affects the experience of other human beings. Stories allow other’s to step into the world of another. Storytelling has the power to inspire us to be our best and disrupt cycles of violence by challenging the narratives of fear. Stories allow us to feel the emotion of our own experience and the experience of others which develops deeper empathy and understanding.

At present I have two Labradors, and have owned and trained several Labradors and a German Shepherd (a rescue dog) as well as the family’s Shetland Sheepdogs and Miniature Schnauzers (together with a variety of birds and small furries!). I have been training dogs for over 35 years in a variety of disciplines, including Obedience; Agility; Gun Dog Training; Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme; Obedience Rally; Companion Dog Training - and even for a short film, “Her Dog” (2013), which you can watch online! Qualifications I have an Honours (2:1) degree in Ecology & Ethology, a MSc (Merit pass) in Applied Animal Behaviour & Welfare from the Royal (Dick) Vet School, University of Edinburgh; and a Doctorate (PhD) in Ecological Studies. KCAI logo large-min.JPG I have been helping owners train their pets in both classes and on a 1-2-1 basis for the last 10 years and initially qualified as a dog trainer with a local charity in 2011, before becoming a member of the Kennel Club Accreditation Scheme for Instructors in Dog Training and Canine Behaviour (KCAI). I am a KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme Approved Examiner (List A) for Bronze, Silver and Gold Award Levels. Drawing upon my formal behavioural, welfare and ecological training I can identify and resolve behavioural problems which cause a lot of distress for both dogs and their owners. I have a particular interest in helping dogs with anxiety or fear-related issues and investigated this for my MSc Dissertation: Investigating Relaxation Protocols designed for Companion Dogs (Canis lupus familiaris): Efficacy, Client Engagement and Perception. I am interested in Dog Cognition and understanding how recent scientific developments can be applied to Pet Dog Training and to help you understand the real reasons behind your dogs behaviours.

Rachel Harriet Coaching

I pride myself on professionalism and diligence in all that I do. In the last 7 years, altering my mindset has totally changed all aspects of my life for the better. With a background in the corporate tech sector, I had always worked in a very male dominated environment. I was really ambitious, and keen to get ahead at work, but often felt I struggled to be taken seriously. I battled with feeling frustrated - because I knew I had so much to add, but daren't speak up. I feared everyone's eyes turning to me, and the pressure would feel unbearable. This knocked my confidence and I realised I needed to do something about it, to take control back of my own destiny. At this point I discovered lots of different podcasts that really helped to shift my perspectives, and through this found the coach I worked with for the first time which was a total game changer for me. I gradually grew in confidence and began to recognise the value I brought to the table. This helped me to articulate myself a lot better, and I worked on improving my communication skills which enabled me to finally progress in the organisation I worked for at the time. I reached a certain point in my career where I realised I owed so much to my personal transformation. I discovered that my passion was now reaching other women and supporting them to unlock their inevitable potential! Life's too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. There have been so many steps that I nearly didn't take through fear, self-doubt and feelings of unworthiness. Trust me when I say, it truly is doing the thing that scares you most that opens the most valuable doors.

Brighter Futures @ Safer Places

Essex

Safer Places (formerly known as Harlow Women’s Aid) has over 40 years’ experience in delivering holistic support services to adult and child survivors of Domestic Abuse across Essex and Hertfordshire. Over the years we have grown and adapted our services to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Domestic abuse has both a devastating and radiating impact and affects the survivor and their families, friends, colleagues and communities. Our team take a non-judgemental and respectful approach to their work and we will do all that we can to ensure that everyone who needs our services can use them, how they want to, when they want to, and where they want to. Domestic abuse does not discriminate and happens in every community. We are proud to work inclusively with anyone who has experienced abuse and our services are designed to reach everyone impacted by abuse. To do this we offer a range of services and work collaboratively with our partners in a range of venues. The support that we offer is holistic, trauma informed and individually tailored to each survivor as we know that although there are common behavioural patterns, not one experience is the same as any other and there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. We know that survivor’s needs are better met when they are involved in creating solutions as equals so our support is co-produced alongside survivors. Our highly qualified staffs are there to empower survivors, giving them the knowledge and confidence to choose the steps on their journey to recovery. Many go on to achieve things they once thought of as impossible. The foundations of our organisation were built by survivors – as were the foundations of one of our refuges. A former project saw a number of survivors qualify as carpenters, bricklayers, painters, plasterers and amenity horticulturalists. The refuge now accommodates 10 families in separate self-contained flats built solely by survivors, for survivors. We recognise that if we are to see our vision materialise and help to create a world where everyone lives a life free from fear and abuse, we need to respond to abuse together, as one. Our training helps professionals and members of the community to recognise the signs of domestic abuse, understand the issues and respond quickly and effectively when a survivor chooses to access support. From short awareness sessions to full IDVA and ISAC qualifications we are committed to sharing our experience and what works to make more families safer. Safer Places vision is a society where everyone lives a life free from fear and abuse Mission Safer Places exist to drive down the incidence and impact of domestic and sexual abuse and to support those who use our services in their journey to recovery, resilience and independence. Values These are the values we promise to uphold so we never loose sight of our mission: Client Led – We empower our clients to exercise choice and control of their support. We ensure client’s voices are heard and that they impact our decision making and shape our services Accessible – We work inclusively with our clients, partners and communities. Anyone who is at risk of experiencing abuse can access our services when, how and where they need them. Respectful – We adopt a trauma informed, holistic approach to support. We listen and believe, are non-judgemental and open and honest about what we can and cannot do. Effective – We deliver high quality services that work for our clients. Our practice is informed by our clients, research, evidence and learning from experts by experience.

The world was rocked by a global pandemic, with lockdowns making the digital experience more essential than ever. Undeterred, we rose to substantial challenges by transforming our office culture to utilize the benefits of remote working, developing new services, and securing business from London. Our doubling down on our philosophy helped us navigate this difficult period for our partners, as our work in 2020 led to us being named the number one agency in the UK for client satisfaction by The Drum, alongside a fourth consecutive year of recognition from Clutch. More of the UK’s leading businesses were drawn to our award-winning agency. We completed big projects for Adobe and the Paris Saint Germain Academy, while proudly bringing on key clients like The Cumberland Building Society and the British Woodworking Federation. So we focused on expanding our strong team. This included bringing in some of the region’s best talent in PPC, design, and content to deliver businesses the best results. While keeping our ears to the ground and working hard to stay ahead of the curve when it came to digital trends, we were hand-picked out of 1000 other agencies by the search engine gods at Google to participate in their prestigious Google Elevator program. This led us to land some of our biggest clients such as Money Supermarket and Merlin – and they were just the beginning … We worked all year with the UK’s most trusted brand, the AA, and expanded our offices with top new talent. At the same time, we celebrated our 10th anniversary in fine style – this included nominations in three categories for the Northern Digital Awards. New and innovative ad strategies are implemented, and we try our hand at sophisticated programmatic advertising and remarketing. Yikes! Never fear, as we further developed our performance-based lead generation model, whilst breaking sales records for clients such as Booths Supermarkets and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Morse Alpha Expeditions - Sailing

morse alpha expeditions - sailing

For the truth is that I already know as much about my fate as I need to know. The day will come when I will die. So the only matter of consequence before me is what I will do with my allotted time. I can remain on shore, paralyzed with fear, or I can raise my sails and dip and soar in the breeze. Richard Bode, First You Have To Row A Little Boat Morse Alpha Expeditions was born out of a need for quality leadership training in the recreational yachting world. Most sail-training programs focus on the essential hard skills. After years of experience in the professional maritime industry, we decided to not only cover expedition sailing skills in a Morse Alpha Expedition but also emphasize crisis management, leadership, professionalism, and camaraderie. These are the skills that will keep you and your crew safely working together even in a crisis situation. Our programs cover a broad curriculum of hard skills such as sail theory, weather, technology, voyage planning, first aid at sea, engines, traditional navigation, emergency drills (MOB, drogue, fire, etc), VHF protocol, RADAR, anchoring, and more. But it doesn’t stop there. We also discuss communication and leadership, bridge resource management (BRM), maritime law and conduct, etc. Our philosophy is that even when you aren’t sailing a commercial vessel, you are still bound by the same laws, weather challenges, crew dynamics, and physical forces. Therefore, recreational sailing shouldn’t be taken lightly. But on the flipside – we love to laugh, bake cookies on cold days, dip in the ocean, and have fun. On a Morse Alpha Expedition you might be woken in the middle of the night to stand anchor watch on deck, or you might be laughing over a bowl of popcorn after a hard days work. Morse Alpha Expeditions are the perfect balance of serious training and light-hearted fun.
