Cultures CIC was formed by Sade Sangowawa and commenced trading as a Community Interest Company (CIC) In 2007. Based in Stockton-On-Tees, Cultures CIC works with individuals and groups from BME, migrant and Refugee communities to improve social, economic and cultural inclusion and build social cohesion. The company is involved in a number of long and short term community projects across the following themes: Improve employability; Promote equality; Break down barriers; Improve access to services and; Delivering cultural awareness raising seminars and conferences. Since 2007 Cultures has become a valued community resource and has established its credibility as a public service provider for out-sourced service provision. We have also been very successful in delivering a number of other projects for job Centre Plus, Learning & Skills Council and Stockton Borough Council via the Five Lamps Organisation and The Taste of Africa event, which is now considered a regional event with an increasing audience, attracting people from as far as London. We understand the difficulties faced by migrants when they migrate to another country and through our services we aim to help them understand the new culture and way of living, the public service structure and their rights and responsibilites. Our strategic aim is to ‘Advance the economic, social and cultural integration of disadvantaged BAME, Refugee and migrant Communities’. Our staff and associates have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the specialist fields within which we work.

The act of painting is a enriching and a soulful process, a non-verbal and visual means of communicating with the subconscious. Painting allows us to totally get absorbed with our inner-being, where we can withdraw from the world and connect with the unconscious. Our hidden self. Over time, my art has been a therapeutical journey for the mind and the soul. My artistic impetus has been influenced by the Northern Romantic painters, Caspar David Friedrich’s soulful sublime images and J.W.M Turner’s Thespian, dramatic semi-abstract contrasting darks hues against luminous tones that imbue emotions. Both sway between sublimity, serenity and awe-inspiring beauty. Similarly, Rothko’s ethereal canvases evoke a spirituality through mysterious broken blocks of colour and luminous layers of light that weaves in and out of the gaps, offering the viewer an experience of transcendence. My Indian heritage and Africa birthplace have influenced my painting from a deeper space within. For last twenty-five years, I have used painting as a creative and a therapeutical tool for self-analysis and higher awareness. Each of my canvases aims to offer the viewer the pleasure of the imagination, where the viewer sees more than just a recognisable forms but find themselves through the pleasure art appreciation. Not unlike both Friedrich and Turner’s art. I aim to encourage the viewer a voyeuristic perspective to exploring hidden dialogues. A pleasure of the imagination.

Community Literacy Centers, Inc. (CLC) 501 (c)(3) is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1987 by judges, educators, attorneys and citizens in Oklahoma County who acknowledged the benefits of a more literate society. In 1997, CLC established and implemented the LEAP (Learning, Enriching, Achieving, Preparing) program which now serves as the foundation for all CLC services. Through LEAP, cooperative partnerships are formed with various Oklahoma County agencies to provide literacy services to agency clients and adults (18 years of age or older) in the surrounding community. Classes are typically conducted at partner sites, however, some classes are currently taught virtually via Zoom. CLC classes include Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), U.S. Citizenship and/or High School Equivalency (HSE) instruction. Workplace Learning Solutions (WLS) and Tutor Training are also encompassed within the LEAP program. OUR VISION Our vision is to change lives by increasing awareness of the benefits of a more literate community and providing a welcoming environment where every adult who wants to read has an opportunity to learn. WHAT WE DO CLC provides free classroom instruction to approximately 1,000 adults in the metropolitan area each year; volunteer tutors are available in the classroom for students who need additional support. CLC instructors cultivate a supportive, nurturing classroom environment in which to foster learning and positively impact the lives of our students. CLC administers assessments and surveys at regular intervals to monitor student progress and needs; CLC adult learners come from varied backgrounds and skill levels.

Life is busy. So much to do and achieve. Days turn into weeks, time is always slipping away as we try to fit everything into an already overfilled schedule. We lack the space to befriend ourselves. To listen to what our body and heart really desires for us. This can leave us feeling tired, with headaches, anxious, unable to sleep, full of aches and pains, a sense of being unwell but unable to pinpoint what or why. My experience of this, left my body exhausted and my mind in a state of confusion. Eventually my body refused to play the game of life at the pace I demanded. I knew deep down something had to change. I returned to my practice of yoga, I studied the breath, its connection to our emotions and thoughts. I learnt how the body holds the secrets to our own happiness. I studied yoga nidra, different meditation and awareness practices, relaxation techniques and the power of visualisation. I watched how as we layer these practices into one long experience it has the power to shift entire groups of people from a sense of dis-ease into complete ease. This makes my heart sing, to take just an hour with a group of people and create a space to enable them to reconnect to their most authentic selves. The term Workie Ticket is a Geordie colloquialism, which means someone who likes to push one’s luck- a chancer or a cheeky trouble-maker. When JoJo Kirtley was a young lass, her Grandad Joe would call her, “a proper little workie ticket” and the nick-name stuck. So, when thinking of a name for her theatre company, it seemed the perfect choice and in 2017, Workie Ticket Theatre was founded. Our mission is to shake things up, be bold, push our luck within the theatre world and empower people through our work. JoJo Kirtley Founder & Co-Artistic Director “It’s hard being a woman in terms of what is happening in the current climate, but also I think there is a gap in the market for what we do and how we do it- working with women and encouraging them through theatre to tell their stories. Now is the time to speak up and speak out.” A writer, producer, facilitator and founder of Workie Ticket Theatre Company, JoJo Kirtley has been working for over a decade to create real social impact through theatre. Her work has been performed at The Lowry, Contact Theatre, The Exchange, (North Shields), Live Theatre and the 24:7 Theatre Festival. She is passionate about developing work within local communities to create a platform and raise awareness of issues that affect women in the North East region. JoJo is also a qualified teacher with a MA in Theatre Studies. She balances running Workie Ticket with being a mother and working for various women's organisations in the North East.

No Deaf child should be left behindOur Vision A world where Deaf, hard of hearing, deafened and DeafBlind children, young people and adults are able to live safely and without fear of abuse and exploitation. Our Mission With safeguarding at the heart of all we do, DeafKidz International aims to respond comprehensively to the protection, health, wellbeing and access to education needs of deaf children, young people and adults worldwide. Why our work is needed Deafness is the third largest disability globally with 466 million deaf people worldwide yet it remains the least resourced. The abuse and exploitation of deaf children is endemic, with deaf children three times more likely to be abused than hearing children, but safeguarding and protection networks lack the means to support deaf survivors/victims of abuse and deaf children at risk. Deaf children face barriers to accessing services and support from teachers, social workers, police workers, medical staff and the justice system, often due to the lack of deaf awareness and resources available to these professionals who are unable to effectively communicate with or support the needs of deaf children. In low-middle income countries often children are not even diagnosed as being deaf which exacerbates risk of abuse and prevents them from accessing vital support they need. DeafKidz International seeks to address the vital gaps in meeting the safeguarding and protection needs of deaf children and reducing risk and vulnerability while supporting deaf children, young people and adults to lead their fullest lives ensuring equal and rightful access to health, education and employment as their hearing peers.

We offer a safe and secure consistent place for vulnerable young people to find support. . OUR FUTURE LEADERS Who we work with One Step at a Time. We start working with our young people from an early age to ensure that we can follow through when building their confidence and self-esteem; especially when faced with challenges such as peer pressure, body image, mental health, and addiction. Our youth team helps to make all our courses a success. We use the skills of our Black community ambassadors, be-frienders, and arts awarded courses as a mean of engagement. With our youth, we use a unique approach to person-centred success. We encourage an holistic approach, making them aware of Black history, Black leaders and connections with the Black elders within our community. Our mission is to make a stronger and fairer world and to fight for equality.
