Troed y Rhiw is a 23 acre mixed organic farm situated in Ceredigion’s coastal belt, less than two miles from the sea. Established in 2008, it is owned and run by Nathan Richards and Alicia Miller. The farm’s ethos is built around a belief in the necessity of farming sustainably in the 21st century. This means a whole farm holistic approach to food production which starts with the microbial worlds within our soil and encompasses everything from habitat protection and creation, to the role that the farm has within the local community. Along with horticulture production, we also have a small herd of Highland cattle which contribute to the farm’s fertility and provide meat for the family and our customers. We focus on local food, serving our immediate community through a box scheme delivered within thirty miles of the farm, local producer’s markets, and retail outlets such as restaurants and green grocers. Staying local means our food is fresh, mostly picked and sold on the same day, and fresh food is the key to good cooking. The farm supports a range of wildlife. Pipistrelle and Brown Long-eared bats roost in the specially designed bat loft in the roof of our stone dairies. Rabbits, badgers and foxes all live in and around the farm. There is a wide range of bird life living on the farm including Jays, Nuthatches, Blue Tits, Wagtails and other garden birds as well as birds of prey, from Barn Owls and Red Kites to Buzzards which hunt in the surrounding countryside. A Heron regularly visits our pond during the summer months. The farm hosts a colony of bees kept in fourteen hives. A wide variety of butterflies and moths flourish on the farm encouraged by the farm’s diverse habitat and because we don’t use any pesticides.

After a four year degree studying French, German and Spanish - I decided the obvious thing to do next was teach English in Japan! Random - but I’m so thankful I made this decision: because it was my introduction to teaching and set me on the path as an educator. 3 years later, I trained as a yoga teacher in Scotland, before moving to Cornwall and deciding I wanted to be a Primary School Teacher. I wanted to share with kids so much about life and the world! Teaching was, admittedly, harder than expected. I loved elements but hated others. I’d always prioritised my health and wellbeing - but I found myself becoming stressed like I’d never experienced before. I know now that if I’d have continued to prioritise my own wellbeing, not only would teaching have been easier - but the children would have also benefited so much more. This is one of the key reasons Class Yoga is here: to raise the wellbeing of educators, so that the pupils benefit in turn. (Listen to more on this, here.) I believe we need to look after our own wellbeing to raise the wellbeing of our pupils I started to share yoga when I could. I got to see what worked and what didn’t; and I got a glimpse of some promising results. But when I left full-time teaching and started supply (and sharing more yoga) I started getting called back - to teach yoga! Because now the clear evidence, of greater calm and focus in children in the classroom after yoga, was shining out! So began my calling to teach yoga to more children, in more schools. Over this time, I developed and refined my method of teaching mindful movement to children, that I still teach and train others in, today. I have been a part of mathematics education for over 30 years as a teacher, mathematics subject leader and Local Authority consultant. As Inspiring Maths Education, I’m continuing my extensive 20+ year track record supporting primary and secondary schools to improve and develop the quality of teaching and learning with a specific focus on mathematics. This includes providing high quality, bespoke subject specific training, support, advice, consultancy and professional development across the country and internationally. As an independent consultant, I wear a number of hats working for a variety of organisations. I am an accredited professional lead for the National Centre for the Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (NCETM). I am a work group lead for NCETM Maths Hubs across the Midlands: North Midlands (NM) and East Midlands West (EMW). These look at Mastery Readiness, Developing Teaching for Mastery, SKTM for TAs and ECTs in the primary phase, as well as Y5-8 continuity. As an associate lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, I work with student teachers at the very start of their careers in teaching as both an academic mentor and lecturer. I am a School Development Lead for ARK Curriculum Mathematics Mastery programme visiting schools to support them in their mastery journey. I deliver mathematics training for Teachers’ Courses and Resources (TCR) in Staffordshire, offering a range of CPD opportunities both face to face and remotely which allows me to work with teachers both in this country and beyond. I have a real passion for the teaching and learning of mathematics and have had a considerable involvement in teaching mathematics both as a teacher, subject leader and adviser over a long career. My enthusiasm for mathematics is infectious and I have vast experience of working with a variety of stakeholders in schools to guide and inspire the next generation of mathematicians.

If you want, sign up and come to the class and you will find that capoeira gives you a lot of satisfaction. Capoeira was born in the 18th century in Brazil, which is still today the cradle of this martial art. Smooth kicks, dodges and changes to the rhythm of the music are the basis of this martial art, unique in many respects. There are several styles of hers, some of which focus more on movements to the music and others on aspects more related to combat. The assumption of capoeira is spectacular body play, which equips them with fitness, teaches them to feel and is a source of pure pleasure. It has the form of shows enriched with music, during which smooth, rhythmic swings, punches, and dodges are performed, but in a non-contact manner, so completely safe. Capoeira engages not only the body but also the senses. Capoeira has no limits and does not impose anything on you. You want and you can do anything, but you don’t have to do anything. It is a feast for the body and soul, with the legs playing the main role – they are used to make most of the strokes, while the hands are used for passages and dodges. Capoeira teaches balance and stabilization, while relaxing and exercising the body, allowing you to express yourself and at the same time cut yourself off from everyday problems.
