The Dance School was established in 1946. Heather Fitchett, after completing her training at the Royal Ballet School, became a partner alongside her teacher, Margaret Sandham in 1958. Miss Sandham and Miss Fitchett worked closely together until the death of Margaret Sandham in 1988.

We are a Brighton based dance school established since 1995. Dance Art Studio is a friendly, welcoming and supportive school in which people can learn dance. We specialise in an extensive range of classes for children, students and adults. We also cater for children who want a once a week lesson or those who wish to take up all the dance genres we offer to a professional level. We also run exciting holiday workshops in dance, drama, singing as well as performance opportunities. Classes are held in Brighton, in a number of venues around Preston Park and Fiveways. We are lucky to offer large, light and spacious venues to our pupils, with portable ballet barres and Harlequin flooring. St. Mary's Church Hall has free easy parking and is pram accessible. Classes for our younger children have waiting areas for parents and a kitchen with tea and coffee facilities.

Child Dynamix Community Nursery Preston Road is our oldest setting and opened in 2001 in a building along Flinton Grove. The nursery moved in 2005 into our current home, a purpose-built setting within Little Stars Children’s Centre. This meant parents could access Children Centre services on the same site as their children’s nursery – and you still can! The teams work closely together and nursery children often join the sessions, which the Centre team offer, obviously with your permission! Activities such as balance bikes and stay and play sessions are very popular. As a purpose-built nursery, we are really pleased with the unique, quirky shapes our building has and often have children peeping through the porthole windows! With three spacious well-equipped rooms and a large natural themed outdoor space, we know that we can offer exactly what you and your child (or children) need.

Louise Smith opened Make North in August 2019 in Preston City centre, as a community maker-space where members could access facilities such as pottery wheels and print benches, as well as attending formal courses taught by our resident-artists Christine, Katie and Micaela. Seven months after launch our membership had grown to over 80 members and 100's of people had participated in courses, then Covid-19 closed our doors. In response we launched a home-pottery service and spent 15months delivering clay to member’s doorsteps and collecting their pots to glaze and fire, over 120 households participated, with all ages taking part. As it has for many the pandemic has been tough for us and we were too new to be eligible for government 'cultural recovery' funding and so after a long period of not covering costs and with ongoing uncertainty over Covid, we took the decision in July to close. We survived the lockdowns thanks to the enthusiastic and generous support of our members, we are incredibly grateful and hope we can find a solution to reopen soon!
