It is my pleasure to be the Headteacher at Chelmer Valley High School. I am passionate about education and have been since joining the profession 30 years ago. Children deserve the very best education we can offer and ‘to be the very best’, is the underlying theme in all we aspire to do. I have worked in a number of schools as a senior leader and my previous post was also that of Headteacher. I have been fortunate through my career to work in a variety of settings from Inner City to a range of overseas posts in which I had the absolute privilege of being part of setting up a brand new British based school. I am very proud that visitors regularly comment on our ethos, the conduct and very positive attitude to learning of the students. The staff are superb and completely committed to supporting all the students in both their academic and social development. I have had the pleasure of working closely with our Primary partner schools enabling students to make the transition to Chelmer in a seamless manner. We are rich in a research culture and the effective sharing of good practice both within the school and across other schools. The underlying ethos of the school is enable all young people to access an education that is appropriate, inspiring, challenging and broad.

At COP 24 in Katowice, Poland [November 2018] Harwood Education and UNITAR held a joint press conference to announce a non-financial agreement that would allow Harwood Education to access 5 of UNITAR’s climate change trainings, adapt them for and offer them to teachers for free.These courses still form the foundational training within our Bronze Award. Harwood Education, covered the costs of the video editing, voice overs and supporting documentation, marketing and social media and invested to create a joint portal that could handle the volume of teachers who wanted to take the teacher training. eduCCate Global was launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2019. By the end of that year, 329K teachers in 43 countries had taken and completed the first Climate Change Teacher Training in the world. In November 2019, Melanie Harwood was invited to speak at The Climate Change in Education Conference in Dubai. It was also an opportunity to visit a school there where every teacher was a Certified Climate Change Teacher and to meet key stakeholders in education in the Middle East region. Youth Engagement Solutions Ltd (YES) is a charity based in North West London, formed in the summer of 2015, after previously existing as a project within a parent charity. We work from our office in Wembley, but deliver across NW London and beyond. Our Aims YES aims to improve the lives of young people aged 10-30 , from all backgrounds, across the capital.
