Moor Park High School And Sixth Form

moor park high school and sixth form

Lancashire,

Here at Moor Park we have one firm belief: that education transforms lives. Our school mission is to ensure that all our young people are able to access higher education and participate fully in our democratic society. Our sixth form is where this mission is actualised. This year, we are proud to be able to report that our year 12 cohort is the biggest the sixth form has ever had, and we are almost at capacity for student numbers. This means sixth form is a vibrant community and our year 12 cohort have made an excellent start to the year, stepping up to the rigour of A Level study with ease. As you may know, our sixth form is unique in the central Preston area as we offer the option for both A Level and BTEC courses in a small, safe environment with a maximum class size of 10 students. This means that our expert staff are able to get to know students well, provide them with 1-1 support and ensure they are both challenged and supported academically, so all students make excellent progress. Our smaller size also allows us to ensure that students maintain social distancing, whilst providing a full face-to-face teaching timetable. This means that students have access to specialist teachers full time and online learning is only used for homework or independent learning. This is an exciting time for our sixth form, and I am proud to be a part of the journey we are on. If you would like to find out more, or would like to come and visit us, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Manchester Environmental Education Network

Manchester

Manchester Environmental Education Network, or "MEEN" as it is more commonly known, is dedicated to supporting teachers, organisations and individuals working to promote environmental education and Education for Sustainability. To achieve this, we use a variety of methods: we run projects with schools, organise networking events, provide a termly newsletter and pool various free curriculum resources on this website. MEEN began life in 1994 as an informal organisation. It was run voluntarily by teachers who wanted to bring environmental issues into their teaching practice. Today, MEEN has become an independent charity. In January 2001 a coordinator was employed to support and build the network. Since then, MEEN has provided a range of CPD services, training sessions and networking events, conferences and numerous projects around sustainability with schools and educational providers. MEEN is now over 20 years old and still upholds its core values: it was set up to support its members and to promote the sustainability agenda within schools and to agencies working with schools. The first edition of Beehive, the MEEN newsletter, was produced in 1994, and despite a few changes in its format, continues to be produced today. MEEN has undergone two significant changes due to the impacts of austerity. Firstly, our remit changed from serving the city of Manchester to cover Greater Manchester. MEEN has always had members from schools in other parts of Greater Manchester so it seemed appropriate, especially as services in the other nine Council areas were being reduced, to widen our remit. Secondly, we now focus increasingly on projects working directly with schools either through the curriculum or working with young people in their Eco Committees.

Our Lady's Catholic College

our lady's catholic college

Lancaster

We hope you find the content useful and interesting and that it gives you a flavour of the ambitious, forward-thinking, successful and happy community that is Our Lady’s. We are very proud to be a Catholic school and to be described as an outstanding one by Diocese of Lancaster. At Our Lady’s we use Blessed Oscar Romero’s quote ‘Aspire not to have more but to be more’ to encourage our students to be the best that they can be. This to me epitomises what we want for the young people of Our Lady’s. They are not just encouraged to achieve in their learning but to reach out to those less fortunate than themselves and to develop their God given gifts and talents to benefit others, as we are called to do by Christ. I am delighted that our school community is wonderfully diverse with pupils of different faiths, nationalities and abilities. We are proud to be an inclusive school and equally proud that we have been recognised as a Lancashire School of Sanctuary for our work in welcoming and caring for all our students. If you would like to come and see Our Lady's for yourself, I would be delighted to take you on a tour of the school during the working day. You would have the opportunity to see our happy, confident students and their talented and dedicated teachers in the classroom as well as hear about how our school is going from strength to strength. Please telephone Catherine Rowlands on 01524 66689 or email c.rowlands@olcc.lancs.sch.uk and we will be happy to make you an appointment.
