The CMRU was part of the Department of Civil Engineering which was consistently placed top in Scotland and in the top half dozen in the UK in successive national Research Assessment Exercises. In 1968 at a meeting of the Parish Council of Aldingbourne it was agreed that there was a definite need to build a modern community centre to serve the village. 12 years later, and at a cost of £100,000,David Purley Aldingbourne Community Centre was completed. It was officially opened on 29th March 1980 by local racing driver David Purley the son of Charles Purley, the founder of LEC Refrigeration. The Centre is built on the playing fields originally managed by the Aldingbourne Sports Council. In 1972 the Sports Council formed the 200 Club to raise money for the project. Concise Construction Ltd of Barnham were given the contract and together with Mr Peter Lovett plans were drawn up. inside-hall-2 Planning permission was first granted in 1977 but was revised in 1978. With grants from the Department of the Environment, West Sussex County Council, Arun District Council the Association were all set to begin work. But it was not to be as straightforward as that. Problems arose concerning an access road and time ticked by. With the knowledge that if work didn’t start on site by a certain time they would lose their grants, the association pressed to reach an agreement. inside-bar-1 Eventually, in March 1979 an agreement was signed and work started immediately. The delay however, had cost the Association money. The original quote of £72,000 for the construction of the building no longer applied and the new cost was set up as £93,931.38p. By the time internal fittings, alarms and other equipment had been fitted the centre cost £100,000.

HomeAbout What happens when you pit a lifelong procrastinator against the biggest test of his life? Trouble. I’m Miles, a recent graduate from the MOT program at the University of Utah. Being a podcast junkie myself, when I was studying for the NBCOT exam I wished there had been a podcast to help me make some progress when I was driving, at the gym, or just not feeling like banging my head against a computer screen. My goal with the podcast is to make the journey I had to take a little easier for other aspiring occupational therapists. Person I’m a huge nerd with a passion for basketball, sushi and OT. I’m always on the hunt for a good Netflix recommendations. My path to OT was a little strange. I worked in tech support during my undergrad and graduated in advertising, but not before taking the pre-reqs for OT school. I love the combination of creativity and purpose in our profession and consider myself lucky to have stumbled across it before I joined the ranks of [insert PT joke here]. Environment I was born and raised in Minnesota, lived in Japan for two years and am currently looking forward to having an actual income for Utah’s next ski season. Occupation I’m currently working at an inpatient acute rehab hospital and loving it. __________________ . __________________ That’s the gist of it. My name is Anthony, I'm currently working remotely and I have been passionate about travel all my life. New places and new people have inspired me throughout this journey. I was fortunate to be engaged in a lot of projects that are creative. Everything went well, but then 2020 began! Soon after the pandemic started, I suddenly discovered that it became almost impossible to travel. I was working in one particular place, surrounded by walls, and day to day nothing changed. My motivation was disappearing… Spring was gone, then summer... Borders gradually opened, but few people risked travelling. For me, everything changed in the autumn when I met Lena.. Lena was in the same situation, she wanted to travel, but she didn't want to go alone. Together we found a way out. We have created a first camp by gathering like-minded people such as entrepreneurs, startupers, IT-specialists, and together we went to Turkey, rented a villa and spent two weeks there. Even though we arrived as strangers we quickly developed a bond. We spontaneously organized workshops, brainstorming sessions, and most importantly the exchange of experiences and friendships. The community started to appear. more than 30 countries Lena Bulgakova Traveler and co-founder of the project #remotecamp Now, after a series of successful camps in different countries, we know it works!. People from different fields of activity, united by the desire to know themselves better, found their work & life balance here. They found themselves happier and more productive, and continued to inspire each other. We discovered how people found a new lifestyle, explored wonderful places alongside their work.

n providing modern, positive reinforcement based training to dogs on the programme, the offenders promote responsible animal welfare and effective dog training without violence and confrontation, leading to learners increased empathy, self-regulation, social skills, compassion, responsibility and respect. The people on the Restart Dog Project have, through attachment and interaction with the dogs, gained insights into identifying their own behaviour and the skills to change. Understanding the emotional capacity of the dogs and how this affects their behaviour offers a greater insight into how prisoners/offenders manage their own feelings of frustration and self-control. The skills learnt during the programmes have been a key part of the graduates’ social reintegration. At the same time, the prisoners/offenders have the opportunity to become well trained professionals within the dog training industry gaining qualifications up to a Level 6, which is a foundation degree. The programme is not funded by the taxpayer, and instead is paid for by the Prisoners Fund, which is raised by work that Prisoners undertake during their time in the custodial system for other organisations. Prisoners/offenders who apply to participate in the Restart Dogs program need be engaged in rehabilitation programs and be engaging in the prison system. Our objectives are to develop selected prisoners as dog trainers, to produce dogs suitable as assistance dogs for people in need. As one of our participants eloquently said- “I have lost my freedom, but I can actually help someone else to get theirs back” We work closely with charities and community groups such as Moorlands Dog Rescue, by raising and training potential assistance dogs or retraining rescue dogs.
