Art Play is a space based in Shoreditch, that provides creative workshops for both children and adults. If you are looking to learn a new skill, make new friends or simply have fun doing something a bit different, we are the place for you! Here at Art Play London, we offer a wide range of creative workshops for adults and children of all ages. We believe in the importance of expressing ourselves creatively, freeing our imaginations and most importantly, having fun! Whether you're an artist already or looking to try something new, we offer a huge selection of classes for all abilities. Art Play has a strong focus on the environment and aims to educate children and adults on their environmental impact through art. We therefore use a variety of sustainable mediums and materials. We are a part of the worldwide Precious Plastic Community, which means we have a plastic collection point for HDPE plastic, which would otherwise end up in landfills or the ocean. Once collected, the plastic is shredded and melted using equipment we have in our studio. It can then be turned into useful objects such as plant pots and coasters, and can even be turned into art! Art Play London was founded by Silva Castellani in 2018, starting out as pop-up events around London. We set up our studio space in February 2022 and are now permanently based in Shoreditch.

Jon Kabat Zinn, one of the top mindfulness leaders and unarguably the father of the art defines it as, “Paying attention; on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally.” Mindfulness is an art that enables a human to be fully present in the current moment and be aware of where he/she is and what they are doing without getting overwhelmed or being too reactive to the surroundings. Simply put, it is the art of being in the moment, in the here and now. The key idea of mindfulness is to be completely attentive to the present and focus on the specific ongoing things. If you are thinking about how it applies to our lives, let’s take an example. We all have driven the car somewhere and arrived at a specific destination without any memory of the entire journey. Such an act is the opposite of mindfulness where we slip into the so-called ‘autopilot’ mode. According to research, 47% of average individuals slip into this autopilot mode all the time. This is why we must mind our present time instead of being in a dreamlike state. In a way, being mindful is taking control of the steering wheel and be aware of your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and the surroundings all the time.
