Our mission is simple; to make the joy of dance accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender, experience or ability. To fulfill this goal and, as a consequence, disrupt the status quo of more conventional dance school offerings, we incorporate the following founding principles. Performance First, (Optionally) Exams Later Students come to us with varying aspirations regarding what they want to achieve during their time with us. Some may simply want to dance for the pure joy of it, and to express themsleves in ways they otherwise couldn’t. However, others may prefer to progress through a formal track of examinations. We believe performance underpins dance as an art form, and we ensure our students get every chance to partake in performances throughout the year (if they wish), whether that be a relatively informal one at one of our many community events, or on stage at one of our annual showcases! Diverse Age Ranges We don’t shy away from the fact that we’re a young school (we were founded in May 2021); instead, we embrace it. As such, our current class structure incorporates a slightly wider age range than you’d perhaps normally encounter. What we’ve found however, is this results in a positive dynamic being formed between younger and older students; younger students look up and take direction from older students, and older students adopt the role of a mentor, helping and looking after younger students.

The Keyford Dancing School is now in its 48th year under the ownership of Patricia Veale, previously known under the name of Keyford Ballet School and owned by Carol Iles. The name is derived from KEYnsham and SaltFORD where the classes are held. Since 1973 thousands of boys and girls have enjoyed classes in ballet, tap, modern and jazz. Many past pupils are now bringing their children to the classes and some continue to dance themselves in adult ballet and tap classes. Boys and girls have in the past few years been able to take part in the Opera & Ballet International in their productions at the Bristol Hippodrome and the Theatre Royal Bath. Hundreds of children have also appeared in the Fry Club Pantomimes and other local productions including the school’s own shows at Broadlands School in which all pupils take part. Pupils have also appeared at Her Majesty Theatre London and in 2016 appeared at Disneyland Paris. The Keyford dancing School is also very active in Charity Fund raising and supports Children in Need and The Breast Cancer Campaign. A number of past pupils have continued into full time dance education and have become both teachers and performers. Patricia’s daughter Janine now runs the Avon Dance Academy and Chew Valley Dancing School after having danced abroad, and is now more involved in the Keyford Dancing School and jointly the three schools are able to offer a wide range of classes and workshops and performing opportunities.

Part of our work is engaging with Primary Healthcare Professionals working within the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. We understand, that for many overworked, stressed GPs, the thought of making lifestyle medicine recommendations within a standard appointment time can feel daunting, Collaborating with co-creators Dr Panja and Dr Rangan Chatterjee, we created a unique learning opportunity in ‘Prescribing Lifestyle Medicine (PLM). PLM is a self-paced, interactive learning platform that allows Primary Care professionals to learn about how to implement Lifestyle Medicine into their consultations. Hello my name is Maria Tjader and I am 39 years old. I live with my daughter, partner and his daughter by the sea in South of England, UK. My own healing journey began when I finished school, left Sweden to explore a new life, and intensified when I had an early middle life crises 13 years ago. As a young adult I felt lost and didn’t know who I was. I felt disempowered by life and without roots, it sparked my journey of self-discovery. It’s been an incredible adventure, with a fair amount of difficulties, creating more aliveness, finding my own love story and myth. I was once a socially awkward girl, lost and confused about life. I grew up in a loving family but still didn’t feel like I fit in or had a place of belonging. I didn’t have many consistent friends that I felt deep connection with, kept attracting unhealthy dynamics with men, had low self-esteem and self-worth. I was adopted from South Korea to Sweden at the age of 1,5. At that time I experienced separation 3 times which meant that I found it hard to trust and allow myself to create healthy attachment to my Swedish parents and anyone else for many years. I wasn’t aware of this until the last couple of years after nearly 13 years of private therapy sessions, workshops, courses and shamanic ceremonies.
