Our charitable objects are: Advance the education of people from disadvantaged communities to improve their social and health issues and economic circumstances. Support unemployed people to increase their self-confidence so enabling them to access work or to start their own business. Improve health by providing dietary information, local fresh food sources and exercise. Promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment and to promote recycling and sustainability practices. Develop training materials that support the rehabilitation of serving and ex-offenders. Our history Seeds for Growth was established in 2006 by people in Tower Hamlets who volunteered in projects to improve health and well-being, particularly for the Bangladeshi community. In 2012 Seeds for Growth expanded its remit to projects in the Criminal Justice Sector. Seeds for Growth has established food co-ops, school fruit tuck shops, encouraged convenience stores to sell more fresh food, supported unemployed people into work, regenerated community gardens and much more. IKSAC is one of the oldest diving clubs in the Midlands having been in existence in one form or another since the early 1970’s. We specialise in diver training within a friendly supportive club environment. We have in excess of 60 members at all levels of qualification. Some new members have yet to progress from the pool whilst some of the older members have been diving for over 30 years. Ages range from the younger ones of teen-age, right through to retirement age (and beyond in some cases). Our former Diving Officer (D.O.) and long standing member Trevor Perry has written a brief history of the club (see below). A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CLUB. The club was formed in 1973 being BSAC branch 592. It used Ilkeston pool as it’s base, which at that time still had the 3 metre diving pool which was useful for diver training. At this time Kimberley Leisure Centre was about to open, and members John Morris and Ray Booth approached the centre to see if it would be possible to use it for training. Permission was granted with the condition that the club changed it’s name to Ilkeston and Kimberley Sub Aqua Club. And so on the 5th October 1974, the day the leisure centre opened, IKSAC was born. We have been based at Kimberley since then. At Ilkeston (the date escapes me) we had a party underwater in the deep pool. It was decked out on the bottom with tables and chairs, and the divers ate fruit, and drank soft drinks and beer underwater. The TV heard about the event and sent along a crew to film us. A BMX bike had been donated and they filmed us riding off the top diving board. The presenter had a change of clothes and dropped off the diving board fully clothed to join us. We made a spot on prime time TV news. Another first for IKSAC was the production of a training video in 1984. Back then in the early days of sport diving there were no training aids and all lessons had to be handwritten by the D.O. As luck would have it, the club boasted a professional forensic videographer amongst it’s ranks. And so on the 10th March 1984 we made the training video “Diving from small boats”. Looking back now the boats are a bit dated bit the majority of the content is still relevant. We sold many copies to diving clubs (with a lot going abroad) and some to the RNLI. In those days Fort Bovisands at Plymouth was busy with training and B.A.D lads courses (basic air diving). IKSAC members used to go down and train on the commercial diving equipment, leading to deep diving,warm water suits, underwater cutting using thermic lances, underwater video and explosives. The weekends that the fleet was in port used to be spent on Union Street. IKSAC members were also pioneering diving in the Red Sea. In the 70’s and 80’s when Sharm was still a Bedouin village in the middle of nowhere, club members used to fly into Israel and cross the border at Taba. We would then travel up and down Sinai in jeeps, sleeping at the side of the sea, and eating food prepared by the Bedouins over a large blowtorch. Around the late 90’s we hit a crisis with membership. Because of the decisions taken by BSAC and PADI to commercialise their operations, we had a problem getting instructors onto training courses which were costing hundreds of pounds. The decision was taken to leave BSAC and join the SAA and so in February 1999 IKSAC became SAA branch 945, which is where we remain to this day. Trevor Perry March 2011

My journey started many years ago when I suffered with severe IBS, inflamed acne, fatigue and very poor immune function. I was sick all the time, not knowing what was causing my issues. It left me with anxiety and I realised something needed to change. After a lot of personal research and the support from an amazing nutritional therapist, I found something that worked for me. I discovered I was deficient in so many nutrients and needed to eliminate, and introduce certain foods to help me heal naturally. This is when I realised the power and the healing benefits of eating well. Food really is medicine! Once I started to heal I really wanted to share my knowledge with others. If I could feel better, then I wanted other people to feel better too. So, I left my career in design to work in the natural health industry to learn more. This is when I started to run workshops to teach people how to make healthy and nutritious food. My main mission was, and still is, to help others and to give them the tools they need to improve their health. Today, after studying to become a Nutrition Coach, I can now help others on a greater scale. I absolutely love what I do. I know I had to go through my own struggle to be where I am today and I am grateful for the journey. I am still on this journey and I am always learning and listening to my body now. I love food and I love cooking with different types of foods. I have been introduced to whole new flavours and tastes. I have fun in the kitchen and like to throw things together. I am quite impatient, so cooking is usually less than 30 mins if possible. I also have a love for chocolate, so I am always coming up with new ways to satisfy my cravings. Caroline Waldegrave is the founding Principal, former Managing Director and co-owner of Leiths School of Food and Wine, one of the most prestigious and respected cookery schools in the country. After 33 years’ involvement, Caroline retired and became a non-executive director on the board of Leith’s in 2009. She was also Chairman of the Guild of Food Writers for several years, and a former member of the Health Education Authority. Caroline was awarded an OBE in 2000 for services to the UK catering industry. Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching and love of food have continued to be the fundamental drivers of Caroline’s work. Since stepping back from day-to-day involvement in Leith’s School, Caroline has focused on imparting her wealth of cookery knowledge at Dudwell School, on the site of the beautiful Waldegrave family home, Dudwell Field Farm. In addition, she owns the Barley Mow pub in London's Marylebone with three of her four children, as well as being a director of the family organic dairy farm. Caroline is also in demand for media appearances, and has been seen on various TV and radio programmes, including Chef School, Masterchef and Tricks of the Trade. In what spare time she does have, Caroline enjoys playing bridge and tennis, and attending the theatre. Publishing Caroline is the author or co-author of a range of cookery books. These include the Leith’s Cookery Bible, Cookery Course and Cookery School books (co-written with Prue Leith), Leith’s Easy Dinner Parties (co-written with Puff Fairclough and Janey Orr), Leith’s Fish Bible (co-written with CJ Jackson), The Healthy Gourmet, and the Low Fat Gourmet. Many of the recipes you will cook on the Dudwell courses will be taken from the Leith’s Bible, but you will also benefit from a copy of the Dudwell cookery book which you will take home at the end of the course, or which is available to buy separately here.

The Climate Centre’s mission is to help the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and its partners reduce the impacts of climate change and extreme-weather events on vulnerable people. In recent decades, there has been a sharp increase in weather-related disasters with climate change and there is an urgent need to manage the rising risk of extreme-weather events through better early-warning, disaster relief and risk reduction, and with climate-smart programmes for health and care, water and sanitation, and food security. Our approach, working at the intersection of science, policy, and practice, is detailed in our Strategy 2021−2025. A core objective is to make the best global scientific insights operable at local level. Key elements include support for awareness-raising and capacity-building, especially in developing countries whose people are the most vulnerable to climate change. Policy needs to be geared toward climate-smart planning, including better dialogues involving a wide range of stakeholders. The Climate Centre focuses primarily on providing guidance and tools to National Societies and their partners, and fostering the exchange of experience, training and technical back-up for Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers, delegates and managers specializing in disaster risk management and health. In the international arena we facilitate access to climate-related channels of funding and advocate for support to the most vulnerable people in debates on climate policy, especially the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the annual UN climate talks, but also related international discussions on development and humanitarian policy and finance.
