New Life on the Old West (NLOW)

New Life on the Old West will deliver wildlife habitat enhancements in green spaces and surrounding countryside within areas close to the Old West River in the Cambridgeshire Fens. The project will create a series of small-scale habitat improvements – ponds, scrapes and wildflower meadows – in the arable landscape, the extensive ditch network and community green spaces. Together, these improvements will create a more resilient landscape in the Cambridgeshire Fens; connecting dispersed species and habitats, while creating demonstration sites for others to learn from. The project will help ensure that a wider range of people can access and enjoy the local fenland countryside. Through a diverse series of events and a dynamic volunteering programme, we’re building a stronger connection between people’s green space assets and the biodiversity on their doorstep. The three-year programme has been developed by Cambridgeshire ACRE, working closely with over 50 local and regional organisations, specialists, and community groups. Stakeholders who play a part in the conservation, land management and development of community green space and farmland assets within the landscape. Meet our partners here. We have highly enthusiastic and professionals Instructors who love the outdoors and take care and pride in running the best quality activities. We plan our sessions to the groups abilities and needs. Our activities are designed to give people a taster of the outdoor world. Helping individuals build their confidence, grow their self esteem and improve their well being, while having fun! The Team Bari – Director / Instructor – I have lived on Anglesey my whole life, growing up next to the beach in Rhosneigr. I am a welsh speaker. I started my career as a Scaffolder which I did for around 20 years. I got into climbing after watching my children climb at AAC (Anglesey Adventure Club) which I have now been volunteering with for 15 years. I went onto gain my outdoor qualifications with the help of ‘The Outdoor Partnership’ and became a Freelance Instructor, working up and down the country. I bought Ropeworks Active with my partner Rebecca back in 2016 and haven’t looked back. In my free time I enjoy getting out climbing and photography, mainly wildlife and the night sky. I have an adorable and slightly grumpy Patterdale Terrier, called Tux.

I’m Esther Wolff, and I’m a garden coach, qualified in horticulture and garden design. Based in Harrogate, in fabulous North Yorkshire, I’m lucky to have the gorgeous RHS Harlow Carr Gardens on my doorstep. This is where I trained in horticulture and garden design, where I regularly go for inspiration, to soak up the beauty of the gardens in all seasons, and to use the wonderful library – and where I now work part-time as a Horticultural Advisor. My passion for gardening grew out of my love for the natural world. I spent 15 years working on environmental issues around the globe, before deciding to step back and try to make a difference in my local area. I’m a strong believer in gardening organically, and in our responsibility as gardeners to provide a home and source of food to insects, birds and other wild animals. At a time when the natural world is under threat in so many ways, what could be better than watching wildlife thrive in your own small patch? Of course, gardening has many benefits for the gardener too, offering fresh air, exercise and a sanctuary from a busy world. There is such pleasure to be gained from nurturing plants and watching them thrive under our care, as well as from creating beauty where before there was none. My conviction that we would all benefit from gardens in our lives eventually led me to establish my practice as a garden coach. I now share my skills with others, helping them to develop the knowledge and confidence to create and look after their own beautiful outdoor space. Situated in one of the islands most beautiful but quietest places, we are surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty and nature reserves. If you like peace and quiet, nature, wildlife walks and car-free bike rides - but like a good pub and a few shops within easy walking distance, then we are the place for you.. Oakdene Orchard is a special campsite in a large site of old fields and woodland. We are open just a few weeks a year. It's enclosed and sheltered from bad wind by its large trees and hedgerows, giving a sense of privacy and security, but still feeling open to all the space and country darkness that makes real camping so different from anything else. We offer just a handful of big, flat, individual plots. All are very well spaced out (most not even viewable from each other) and are available in either: Our amazing spacious Bell-tents, or bring your own tents if you are walkers or on bicycles Each bell-tent pitch is part screened with its own hedging and trees, and comes with a large family size bench with a fire pit and wood included. Oakdean Orchard offers a safe but adventurous place to stay for smaller groups and all those interested in peaceful enjoyment of the natural environment. Although we are located in a beautiful place we are not really a 'glamping' site. But we supply water, toilets and hot showers for all visitors free.

Fox Wood Forest School was founded in April 2016 and registered as a not for profit company in November of the same year. The following aims are at the heart of what we do: to support both physical and mental wellbeing of all participants through time in nature, adventurous play and connection with others to encourage children and families to connect with nature through play and exploration, so that they might be the ones to protect it in future to create a haven for wildlife within our local community Meet the team - All of whom live locally in Roydon and Diss Ange - Director - Chair Forest school leader, teacher and mother of three. I am passionate about giving children the opportunity to learn through child led play. I taught for seven years mostly in Norfolk, I loved the buzz and excitement of working with children, but was frustrated by the constraints of the school curriculum, so after a break to have children I explored other avenues. Through Suffolk Wildlife Trust I discovered Forest School - I had finally found what I wanted to do! What I love most about Forest School is seeing children gain confidence, resilience and independence. Watching the look of determination on their faces as they persevere with something challenging and seeing their pride and smiles of joy when they succeed is really special. I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childhood Studies and I have worked with children and families for 16yrs+ in a variety of roles including; Nursery Nurse, Play Worker, SEN teaching assistant and Education Officer. I also run family art workshops, community art projects and illustrate nature connection activities Play.Make.Create.Art. I became a Level 3 Forest School Leader because it encompasses everything I’m passionate about, play and nature! Child led play is so important to help develop confidence, problem solving and resilience. Forest school promotes this with a connection to nature, encouraging learners to explore and be adventurous with freedom. Both my boys have benefitted hugely from forest school, improving their wellbeing and independence. I love to see them fully engaged in the natural world and confident to try new things, unplugged and free to play!
