Strand Consulting

How to save millions of euro on consultancy services – The story of Strand Consult’s strategic reports Around the world many companies spend millions of euro on expensive consultants. Some of those consultants even have a limited knowledge about the mobile industry, but know a great deal about processes and how to implement new processes in practice. Being a customer with that type of company can occasionally be an expensive pastime and many companies are left with a feeling of have being visited by a senior consultant and 10 junior consultants that had been working under the motto: “Lend me your watch and I’ll tell you the time” Many Stand Consult employees have a past as traditional consultants and in previous jobs often classified customers by the number of hours, days, weeks or months of consultancy the customer could afford. The target was to sell 67% of the total available man hours the consultancy firm could produce. When we founded Strand Consult in 1995, our goal was not to sell people or hours, but to sell knowledge and create value. We realised that if we could use the consultants’ analytical approach, combined with a very high level of industry knowledge and a simple and effective method to communicate knowledge, we would be able to save our customers an enormous amount of expensive consultants. Our goal was not to sell high-end temps to our customers, but to create a knowledge transfer to customers, enabling them to quickly and more efficiently achieve success. During the past 17 years we have published a great number of reports, where we not only explain how the telco industry looks, but also how it will develop in the future. We have focused on collecting the knowledge you need to more easily navigate a complex industry with increasing competition. The market player that can operate their business in the most cost-effective manner will have an increased probability of winning in the long term. Currently we have 6 focus areas: – The mobile broadband market – The MVNO market – The market for Value Added Services – Next Generation Prepaid Services – The Smartphone market – Digital strategy for the Telecom and Media industry. We have spent many man years researching and publishing a series of comprehensive reports and workshops focused on these areas. Market players that have ambitions of being successful within these areas can either try to gain an overview themselves, find solutions and purchase external consultants to help them on their way, or alternatively use Strand Consult’s reports – with or without workshops -to acquire the knowledge they need to be successful in the future. You can read more about some of our reports here: Successful Strategies for the Mobile Broadband Market How to get success in the second Generation MVNO Market

If you are contemplating transitioning your organisation to Agile ways of working, then you have probably already read numerous reports and editorials on the advantages of Agile delivery and all the improvements you can expect in terms of speed of delivery, quality of outcome and most importantly, reduced costs; but have you thought about the challenges you may face along the way? When organisations begin their Agile transformation, one of their first challenges is understanding the roles necessary to support the initiative; for example, one of the most critical but often a new concept for many organisations new to Agile delivery, is the role of the ‘Scrum Master’. The most frequently asked question is "What makes the Scrum Master role different from that of a Project Manager?" The differences are important and, in our experience, understanding them is crucial to Agile success. A strong corporate culture not accustomed to the Agile mindset can also be a difficult environment in which to implement Agile methods. In some cases, the company’s culture and practices may reward non-Agile milestones while inadvertently discouraging Agile success. In other words, If the correct framework for the new delivery concept is not in place, Agile adoption can be extremely difficult. When a company maintains a non-Agile framework and then tries to shoe-horn in Agile practices, they often end up accomplishing less at greater cost while also achieving lower quality results which, ultimately leads them to somehow conclude that, it is Agile that does not work. Agile training workshops We combine powerpoint presentations, business cases and discussions to create an effective learning experience; an optional online assessment on conclusion of the workshops assess the level of Agile knowledge transfer. Take a look at our Agile training workshop services for course features. Agile coaching Our professional and highly motivated Agile coaches will be responsible for creating and improving Agile processes within your team or organisation by spreading industry best practices between different teams, integrate Agile teams with non-Agile practices and measure the results of the transition. Business change and process automation The COVID-19 pandemic refocussed businesses on resilience, for many that resulted in an acceleration of the business process automation agenda. Automation combined with contextual intelligence can provide a route to greater agility, reduced risk, a better delivery experience and stronger growth. Working closely with your teams, we can map you existing processes using UML diagrams enabling us to identify process gaps, inefficient or repetitious tasks. Once the process optimisations have been agreed, we can proceed to automation with bespoke interfaces and system workflows enabling your teams to focus more easily on the business of generating growth. We are also fully versed with the UK central government/public sector GDS Digital by Default Service Design Standards, G-Cloud and DOS framework procurement processes.

E-Learning Matters Home About Me Blog Portfolio Contact E-learning Matters You are here:Home/Blog/Blog/E-learning/E-learning Matters E-LEARNING MATTERS WELCOME Hello and welcome to E-learning Matters. This is the obligatory (well, it’s not really obligatory, but it feels so) blog post about myself and the website. THE OBLIGATORY INTRODUCTION Introductions first: My name’s Gareth Davies and I’m from south Wales in the UK. I’m an e-learning professional with an MA in Online and Distance Education, but more importantly, I’m someone that is very passionate about education and technology’s role within it. WHY HAVE YOU MADE THIS SITE? This website is the successor of my Multiple Tracks blog which was a free WordPress blog site. I chose to go down the route of getting my own hosting to increase my options on what I can do with my content and, crucially, for me to learn how to create my own website using WordPress. WHAT WILL E-LEARNING MATTERS BE ABOUT? The content I’ll be writing about will naturally revolve around e-learning. However, what is e-learning and why should you care about it? The ‘e’ in e-learning stands for ‘electronic’, so e-learning is learning using electronic technologies. This learning can be a part of a course or curriculum or it can account for their entirety. Typically, e-learning is seen purely as online learning where learners engage with materials via the Internet. This website will not be solely looking at online learning, however. I’ll be discussing the wide variety of issues that fall under the roof of technology enhanced learning or educational technology. The link to the left is to the wikipedia entry for educational technology. I’ll be doing this in all my blog posts when a particular term comes up that I feel readers may be interested in because I am committed to making this website a hub for people to learn about the field of educational technology. A place where readers can find not only original content but a starting off point for further reading to achieve a deeper understanding of the subjects covered. I’ll be writing about subjects such as the future of education, new developments in technology that will and are having an impact on education, and existing and burgeoning learning theories that relate to these technologies use in learning. I’ll also be writing about any of my own experiences that I feel will be of use to people studying and working in the field. Anyway, welcome and please feel free to make comments. I’d love to hear from you. Click here to add your own text PAGES About Me Blog Contact Home Portfolio CATEGORIES Blog digital competence E-learning e-learning MOOC new and emerging technology

Decluttering to Get Organised With an extensive background in Interior Design and Contemporary Art logistics and installations I have a great eye for detail and plenty of solutions for organisation, styling and storage. I aim to create freedom from things and functionality in spaces that have ceased to fulfil potential. This extends to archiving materials such as photographs and documents; decluttering and packing in preparation for a move; unpacking and dressing a new space. My clients may aspire to a goal such as home decluttering with the view to redecorate afterwards. I really enjoy being part of this fresh start and so we can get stuck into the painting and finishing touches together. In the case of a commercial space, this is something I can organise as a service. I have an initial consultation with new clients to assess the job and needs and wants, and then I’ll go away and devise a plan of action. Once you are happy with the plan the exciting new journey begins. Clients may have suffered a bereavement and find it challenging to go through the emotional process of letting go. Other clients may have a tendency towards collecting, or hoarding, and find it challenging to let go due to the relationship between the items and memories. I manage this in my own life and so I have many techniques and fresh ways of re-looking at your objects and what they represent in your life. I will be sensitive and patient. Objects often unlock memories that you need to take the time to process before you let go and I understand that. We are working together towards success in your long-term goals Professional organising and one-to-one coaching are my passions Many clients choose one-to-one coaching. We spend time together focusing specifically on personal goals and ways of achieving them. With most of my clients I aim to introduce movement and light exercise, new hobbies (I teach calligraphy, digital photography, arts and crafts, writing and poetry, easy to follow dance workouts…), dealing with triggers and developing coping mechanisms (relating to conditions such as anxiety), building confidence, tackling difficult social situations and practical advice on areas such as overcoming anxiety before an exam, e.g. driving, job interview techniques, and managing stress. Don’t worry about the light exercise – it is all feel-good factor and nothing to do with training or learning routines. We are going to have fun together. I will make a programme tailored to you and you will be amazed where you can be in four weeks, three months, six months, a year... I have personal experience with PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder and depression. I know these conditions change your life, but they don’t have to limit it. Please do consult your doctor before making changes to your lifestyle. I always follow their advice and medical judgement. If you have any issues with mobility or certain environments (crowded places, loud noises etc.) please do let me know.

The approach I take within my work comes from my own life experiences, extensive training and research, my interest in fellow human beings and a deep longing to share with others my knowledge of self-development, spirituality and natural healing. I graduated in Biology at Durham University in the 1980s and I entered the workplace at the Science Museum in London. Science and particularly the Medical Sciences were my first loves, however a taste of the stress and pressure of city life, led me to take off on a travelling adventure and find out what it was I really wished for out of life. Whilst living and working in South East Asia I gravitated towards Buddhism and the Ayurvedic approach to wellness and health. I took a course in 'Chakra Consciousness' in India where I qualified as a teacher. This changed my whole outlook and meditation/natural healing became part of my life and it stuck. On returning to the UK, two children later, and having decided to completely switch career, I worked in a Natural Health business whilst further training in Stress Therapy, Holistic Massage, Acupressure and Reiki Healing. I opened my first 'Holistic Wellbeing' clinic in Wetherby in 2006 and then 'Qui Wellbeing' in Sicklinghall and I have now worked 1:1 with a wide range of clients. In 2017 I qualified as a Mindfulness Association teacher and UK registered with the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches following the UK good practice guidelines. In 2019 I qualified as a Compassion Based Living Teacher with the Mindfulness Association. In recent years I have delivered Mindfulness based interventions to recovering addicts (5-ways academy in Leeds), vulnerable adults (Harrogate Homeless Project), leaders working with vulnerable adults, stressed city workers (NHS digital Leeds), sixth formers (Harrogate Grammar school) and I am currently working with University of Leeds on research funded by the Medical Research Council into approaches to mental health in adolescents. Recently I recorded a professionally produced audio version of the MBLC course for the Mindfulness Association. I continue to deliver to private clients and groups at the Acorn Wellness Retreat and at Carlshead Business Centre. I am now very happily part of the Kagyu sangha of Tibetan Buddhism and practice at Samye Dzong, Samye Ling and with Mindsprings. I regularly attend immersive retreats. I combine my multi-disciplinary skills, my extensive client-based experience and my deep belief in the power of Mindfulness to create a unique and considered approach to personal wellness and natural health. Communicating through social media, magazine articles and blogs keeps me abreast of new developments and research into my diverse areas of interest. Other than that, I am committed to be happy and compassionate in my work, with my family, with the people I meet and the world around me. I am very grateful to my many guides and influences. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Namaste

Herschel Grammar School

herschel grammar school

Slough

Herschel is a selective, co-educational secondary school serving Slough and its surrounding areas. In our latest inspection the school was deemed outstanding in all categories by Ofsted. Herschel has a warm and vibrant atmosphere built on an ethos of mutual trust, high academic standards and a commitment to nurturing and developing every individual pupil. We provide the very best opportunities to ensure every child achieves their potential. ‘Pupils thrive in the school’s academic, yet very caring and secure environment’ (Ofsted) And our pupils don’t just achieve very good examination results. Their progress between Year 7 and Year 11 places the school in the top 11% of schools nationally. The school’s success is built on genuine collaboration and partnership between governors, staff, pupils and parents; a partnership which has great aspirations for every child. Teachers have high expectations and work very hard to provide challenge and support. As Ofsted said in their verbal feedback the teachers are ‘enthusiastic, passionate and inspirational’. Pupils themselves have positive attitudes to learning and work well together. They take responsibility for their own behaviour and have strong emotional intelligence and empathy. As a result our young people leave us as responsible, active citizens ready to contribute confidently to university, the workplace and their communities. There is a wealth of information on the website that I hope will help you to increase your understanding of the school and to serve as a first point of information.
