The King John School

the king john school

Essex,

I was fortunate enough to be appointed Headteacher here at the school in January 2021. Our vision at King John is focused around ‘A Quality Education for All’. To enable our students to be happy and successful learners, we strive to create a caring, supportive and aspirational learning community, with high expectations and opportunities for all. We believe in offering a broad and balanced curriculum to enable students to flourish as individuals, and to achieve future success in whatever they choose to become later in life. This includes a strong emphasis on sport and the arts. We strive to nurture and develop our global citizens of the future by celebrating success and valuing aspiration. We are determined to ensure that every student succeeds and maximises their potential. The recruitment, retention and training of fully-qualified staff play a key part in our drive to secure strong academic outcomes for all students, and to instil a life-long love of learning. We understand the vitally important role of partnerships between families and school, and value our relationships with all members of the community we serve. We have a thriving sixth form, which has been significantly extended to provide a wealth of additional, state-of-the-art facilities. Students’ destinations are very strong, and they progress to higher education, including Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities, apprenticeships and employment. We hope this website provides you with an insight into our values, expectations and ambitions for all our learners, including our key priorities as a school for the future. However, if you would like to find out more about our school, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kingston Maurward College

kingston maurward college

Dorchester

Vibrant and growing Land-based College Firstly, note that we are more than just a college. We are a college, a country estate, a dairy farm, a wedding venue, a conference centre, an arable farm, a tourist destination, the birthplace of Thomas Hardy and, most crucially, the only provider of land-based studies for 60 miles in any direction. We have a major strategic role in the development of Dorset’s rural economy, which although firmly rooted in our heritage as an agricultural provider, now spans the full range of land-based studies and beyond, from entry-level to a degree. Following a dynamic period, the College now has a financial health rating of ‘Good’, rewritten the Strategic Plan, and developed an Estate Masterplan for the next ten years, alongside confirming our Ofsted ‘Good’ grade. We have a strong platform to make the improvements required to continually strive towards outstanding status and we are looking forward to the future with ambition and optimism. The nature of the College, however, is much more than just an Ofsted grade. We are at the heart of Dorset, both emotionally and literally. Engagement and strategic positioning are vital to ensure we continue to grow both our reputation and student numbers. We need staff who will move us to the next step as part of a forward-looking organisation, rooted in the landscape of Dorset and the history of the estate. What binds us to the past is important, but it is not what defines our future; the essence of Kingston Maurward is about people, attitudes and the culture we all inherit and develop.

Crawley

Welcome to our website where I hope you will be able to access everything you need to know about St Wilfrid’s. This is a great school, one where we strive to create a purposeful, accepting and caring environment where students develop and flourish intellectually, morally, physically and spiritually. We believe that true education is concerned with the holistic development of each child; their growth into fine young men and women of integrity, ready to make a positive contribution to society is just as important as their qualifications. We do this by educating the whole person, celebrating their uniqueness and striving for the highest of standards. Our success comes by challenging every student to be the best they can be in everything they think, say and do. By doing this within a community rooted in Gospel values, we promote hard work, tolerance, love and forgiveness. The standards we set are high and students really do work hard to live up to them. The staff at St Wilfrid’s work tirelessly to ensure that our students get the best educational experience possible with the result that students make great progress academically whilst developing into fine young adults ready to make a difference to the world. St Wilfrid’s is a special place with an amazing atmosphere, but don’t just take my word for it. If you are a prospective member of staff or a family looking for a school for your child, you are warmly invited to visit St Wilfrid’s and see us in action to experience for yourself the many special qualities which make up St Wilfrid’s Catholic School.

West (Women In Engineering, Science & Technology)

west (women in engineering, science & technology)

London

WEST is a small charity with a big aim: to inspire girls and women to study and work in non-traditional trades and careers like engineering.Wendy Miller “I was the first full-time female student to study engineering at Sheffield College. After employment as a draughtsperson and engineering project manager, I have worked in education since 2004. I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! There is a world of opportunity out there for young women and we are missing a lot of talent.” Pat Morton (Chair) Pat Morton (Chair) “I spent 20 years in the construction industry as a surveyor and another 20 years in Higher Education working in equality – particularly gender equality – in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and built environment. When Ros Wall died we wanted to do something active to remember her. She was a real activist so we decided to set up WEST and support a cause dear to Ros’s heart.” Saj Parveen Saj Parveen “I undertook a foundation course in engineering at Sheffield College / Sheffield Hallam University, followed by a degree in engineering, and then a postgraduate certificate. I’m now a senior lecturer in mechanical design engineering. I love developing and inspiring the next generation of engineers and especially keen to see more women becoming engineers, which is why I got involved with WEST.”

Liverpool Personal Trainer

liverpool personal trainer

The program was put together by myself, Paul Coshott – Liverpool Personal Trainer, as I felt the classes needed a structure, similar to my Kids Martial Arts classes, and it gave the students something to work towards, as they are graded every 3 – 4 months, and are presented with certificates and trophies, on completion of exam I hear a lot in the media about failing schools and children failing at school. Our aim at the studio, is to give children and their schools in Liverpool, a helping hand to get back on track. The Boxing fundamentals program works hand in hand with a child’s schoolwork, providing improved self discipline, self confidence, concentration, mental alertness, co operation, goal setting advice and anti bully skills All young students in my children’s programs are required to take a specially designed form to their teachers at school once a month. This has to be signed off by the teacher before the student can be considered to be put forward for their next exam or martial arts grade. The form also needs to be signed by parents to show that they are being well behaved and are showing respect at home To secure a Free week trial of the program/ classes, please click on the link below, or alternatively, send me a text message and I’ll get in touch We hold sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 6 pm, and Saturday mornings from 9 until 10 am. All sessions are held at my ‘Strictly Boxing Fitness studio’, Mercer Street, Garston L19 2NR. Bring your kids along to join in with the fun.

Play Academy

Leeds

Hi there! I’m Karen Holmes, manager and owner of Play Academy. In the Summer of 2019, my life took a huge, exciting turn when I took on this wonderful club. Up until then, I had spent 20 years as a very happy & successful Primary School teacher. During my time as a teacher, I had the pleasure of working with many, many children across the primary age range. I also trained as a student mentor and worked alongside trainee teachers supporting & developing practice. In addition to this I was also responsible for the PSHE curriculum across the whole school, an area I am still massively passionate about. Whilst building my career as an educator, I was also bringing up my two gorgeous sons Toby & Zach. Because I was juggling being a mum with being a teacher, I fully understand the desire parents have for quality wrap around care for children; it’s something my husband and I accessed for our two lovely boys during their primary years. As my career progressed and opportunities were being put in front of me, I paused for a bit and realised that teaching was no longer for me. I was spending less and less time doing the things that had steered me into teaching in the first place; planning, creating & facilitating new and fun quality experiences for children. I wanted to get back to just having ‘fun’ with little people, blowing bubbles, building dens, playing boards games, enjoying the outdoors and most of all…….laughing! To allow children a comfortable, home from home space to practise being good citizens, develop key life skills and master the art of a two way conversation.
