I am honored to serve as Interim Superintendent for the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS); the finest Career and Technical Education program in Connecticut. For over 100 years, this school system has prepared high school students and adult learners with the skills to be successful in high-demand technical careers, while equipping Connecticut business and industry with a talented workforce to support economic growth. I am proud to be a part of that story. For 30 years I have worked in a variety of education roles. Most recently, I served as Superintendent of Bristol Public Schools where I was directly involved in the development and implementation of the district’s career partnership with business and industry in the city of Bristol, as well as a successful school-to-work career pathways program. Through this experience I observed how opportunities in the skilled-trades can transform the lives of students by setting them up for a living-wage career. I am excited to learn more about the opportunities CTECS offers. I believe that educational leaders are in the business of serving people first. Student growth, achievement and outcomes do not happen without a solid school foundation built on trust, seamless and open dialogue, and the willingness to engage in critical conversations. As such, over the coming months I’ll be spending my days in classrooms with students, meeting with CTECS staff, and getting to know our business and industry partners so that I can continue to support the growth of this school system. Cheltenham Tutors Ltd was founded at the start of the pandemic with the purpose of providing affordable and accessible tuition to students. With schools closing and all learning being remote, we thought that there was a need to offer additional educational support to schools, families, and children. We also thought that this tuition should be accessible to all. We therefore provided affordable online tuition throughout the pandemic and we worked with local schools and families to deliver hundreds of hours of online tutoring. 9am to 3pm each day, we logged on to support students in their learning and to offer 1-2-1 teaching. We greatly enjoyed working with all the wonderful schools, families, and students and making a difference to the education of many children. Now that life is returning to normal and schools are fully open again, we continue to offer affordable tuition to schools and we are happy to take on private clients as well. We offer our tutoring predominantly face to face. What we do We specialise in meeting students where they are at and moving them forward in their learning. Because we are run by teachers, we know what students need to cover in their curriculum, where they should be academically, and how best to accelerate progress in learning. We also believe that all students are capable of making good progress, and that it is normal to struggle and need extra help. The tutoring we provide is professional, effective, and supportive. It starts with getting to know the student and moves onto boosting academic performance, all in an atmosphere which is personal and supportive.

We do not compete or examine our dancers. It’s wonderful and refreshing to experience a non-competitive environment. When Ruth Anne Rogerson and her daughter Tammy founded Dance London in 1993, they wanted to create a studio that focuses on technical training and the love of dance. A place for everyone to be themselves and just enjoy dance. 25 years later, we are still following the same philosophy. When you take the competitiveness, awards, examinations, and medals out of dance, everyone can just be. Our dancers, parents and faculty don’t compete with one another— instead, they encourage and support each other. Everyone is equal and a part of our family. At Dance London, you become a part of a family that supports and encourages one another. Your child won’t feel left out or overshadowed by others, because no matter their age or skill level everyone is treated equally. Your child will be placed in the best class based on their skill level and age. All 6 – 17-year-old classes are based on skill level and age. This builds our dancers’ confidence by not feeling lost or behind in class. It also gives our high-level dancers the opportunity to keep progressing and not be held back in a class that is not challenging. By grouping dancers together that are in the same age range, they are able to connect and bond socially with their peers. We cap our class size. Instead of packing as many dancers as we can into our classes, we have a maximum number of dancers allowed per class. This allows our faculty to give enough one-on-one attention to each student.

Professional, personal and academic development is at the heart of our programmes. In partnership with DTA members, and expert external trainers, we deliver a wide variety of discipline specific training and a broad range of key professional skills training. Our nationwide Alliance fosters student connections across the UK and further afield, we create rich professional networks that bring together academics and professional staff across disciplines, countries, industry and beyond. The DTA builds upon the applied research strengths, industry-focus and collaborative ethos of our members. University Alliance established the centrally coordinated DTA initiative to develop the next generation of independent, highly-employable researchers with expertise and skills in strategically-important areas. DTA partners shared vision is the future-proofing of research and innovation through an open and sustainable approach by developing a national research ecosystem that maximises complementary strengths, is responsive and relevant to society and industry, and nurtures future capability within the high-quality research activity found in Alliance universities. Centrally coordinated by the University Alliance team on behalf of its partners, the DTA is one of the largest nationwide doctoral training initiatives in the UK. We deliver structured PhD training in collaboration with 19 Alliance universities and partner institutions. While benefitting from the nationwide network of universities, the DTA research communities drive connectivity across the membership through facilitating cross-institutional collaborations.

I am here as an eternal student. Yogic practices found a way into my life after graduating from Fashion Design and in want of a whole new direction. The path I’d been on until graduation felt unaligned and this new vision took me to India where I travelled and studied for 8 months. One conversation with a complete stranger early on in my travels stuck with me. I was waiting outside about to go into my first yoga class since arriving. A few of us got to chatting about why we were there. One girl said she just wanted to get her daily meditation practice back. She said, “life is just better when you meditate. I don’t know why, it just is.” Since then I have learnt many techniques and found reasons why meditation enriches anyones life who is willing to dive in but this simple and profound statement is what I come back to again and again. Life is just better. During this time I went on to complete Inteyoga 200 hour teacher training in Mysore. I then returned the following year to complete the 500 hour course. This path and solid foundation took me back to the Isle of Mull, Scotland where I grew up to start teaching Inteyoga, an integration of traditional Indian Hatha yoga practices from the Sivananda and Krishnananda lineages. Since then I have developed a strong meditation and intuition practice which led me to visit London to complete reiki levels 1&2. This has been a beautiful revelation that allows me to give distance healings using this powerful universal life force to YOU wherever you are in the world!
