WEST is a small charity with a big aim: to inspire girls and women to study and work in non-traditional trades and careers like engineering.Wendy Miller “I was the first full-time female student to study engineering at Sheffield College. After employment as a draughtsperson and engineering project manager, I have worked in education since 2004. I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! There is a world of opportunity out there for young women and we are missing a lot of talent.” Pat Morton (Chair) Pat Morton (Chair) “I spent 20 years in the construction industry as a surveyor and another 20 years in Higher Education working in equality – particularly gender equality – in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and built environment. When Ros Wall died we wanted to do something active to remember her. She was a real activist so we decided to set up WEST and support a cause dear to Ros’s heart.” Saj Parveen Saj Parveen “I undertook a foundation course in engineering at Sheffield College / Sheffield Hallam University, followed by a degree in engineering, and then a postgraduate certificate. I’m now a senior lecturer in mechanical design engineering. I love developing and inspiring the next generation of engineers and especially keen to see more women becoming engineers, which is why I got involved with WEST.”

Success4All is an educational charity based in the North East of England established in 2006. We provide children and young people with opportunities to develop their skills in a safe and nurturing community environment where they are engaged, equipped and empowered. Our daughter Emmie was diagnosed with a Malignant Rhabdoid Tumour in September 2019. MRT is an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer, which is difficult to treat and she was given a poor prognosis. Emmie underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy, a radical nephrectomy, stem cell harvest and aspiration, high dose chemotherapy, 8 days on a ventilator in PICU and a further 12 months of maintenance chemotherapy. However she is now in remission and loves singing, dancing, reading and playing with her big brother and baby sister. 'Emmie's Books' raises money to buy books for little warriors in hospitals across the UK - and their families. As teachers, we know the importance of escapism through books, as well as the importance of keeping our minds busy as oncology parents.

My name is Sarah Colombini and I am very privileged to be the Headteacher at Ribston Hall High School. At Ribston, we know that every child is different. Our ethos is to enable and empower young women to discover their own unique potential. We believe that each child's individuality should be encouraged and developed. This is achieved by offering an all-round holistic education where we value all of the subjects we teach, and have worked hard to ensure students receive a broad learning experience in many different subjects that are not always on offer at other schools. As a Biologist, I recognise the value of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), particularly in the education of women as these areas are under-represented in undergraduate study and pursuance of careers in these fields. This is something I would like to change by encouraging those that are interested to consider STEM at this school and view its study as an opportunity and a gateway to a multitude of careers. Having recently heard the news that we have been successful in securing £1.5 million to build our new science block, we are excited that this will support our aim as well as providing our primary partnership schools an opportunity to experience and engage in science learning with us too. Our key strength is the underpinning care and support we provide our students – this is because we know that you cannot succeed if you are not happy. Equipping young people with the tools to cope and succeed is what we do well; we nurture our students to be physically and mentally fit to thrive in the 21st century. Student wellbeing really is at the heart of what we do at Ribston.

Experiential Science IncursionsAt Education Interactive we are passionate about engaging all students in science and encouraging the uptake of STEM subjects in later school years. Our forensic science workshops have been loved by schools and students across Australia, the UK and Ireland. Our maiden workshop, A Case of Identity first toured Australia in 2005 and commenced touring the UK and Ireland in 2006. During the development of these programs, Education Interactive worked closely with the Centres for Forensic Science at UTS, Australia and University of Strathclyde, Scotland to ensure the scientific accuracy of the content. We pride ourselves on the feedback we receive from the schools we visit, here is an overview of what schools said about us in 2020: – 70% of schools rebooked for this year. – 100% of schools said they would recommend our programme to others. – 97% overall Satisfaction Rating.

Bricks McGee was founded in 2012 from a love of LEGO® bricks. We love working to deliver STEM activities for schools with LEGO bricks, engaging workshops for museums, and memorable team-building workshops for businesses and organisations. We also design and build custom models from LEGO bricks for museums and corporate clients. Bricks McGee started as the LEGO-loving alter ego of Richard Carter, a lifelong LEGO fan and collector, and is now a collective of passionate LEGO fans ready to share their experience. Bricks McGee is the alter ego of our founder, Richard Carter. “I have loved LEGO for as long as I can remember – and haven’t really stopped building since!“ Since starting, Bricks McGee has become the name of the business as a whole, encompassing our brilliant facilitators for workshops.
