Music has played an important part in my life since primary school days. At first I learnt organ, - the electronic organ was having its heyday and I was fully involved. As a young teenager I would demonstrate these instruments for local retailers at 'road show' events throughout Northern Ireland. A major highlight was performing at a public concert in the Ulster Hall, Belfast, along with organ legend Reginald Dixon (of Tower Ballroom Blackpool, Wurlitzer fame) when I was only 14 years of age. At the same time I was progressing with my formal music education both at school (A-Level Music), and with private tutors on both classical organ & piano. I successfully passed ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal School of Music) Grade 8 at the age of 17, and later went on to earn 'merit' in a Guildhall School of Music Performance Exam. I have held the post of organist and choirmaster at churches in Northern Ireland and here in the North East. I have also provided entertainment (Organ & Drums Duo) at functions and dinner dances, and performed on both Radio & TV. My teaching experience spans 30+ years, and to help me continue progressing in my understanding of latest teaching ideas I've attended a number of ABRSM professional development sessions, and completed their highly respected and accredited Teaching Music Effectively course. I also participated in a two day Music Teacher Conference entitled Nurturing potential, Encouraging success. And, in association with Music Mark, attended Musical Progression and the role of assessment sessions to keep my skills right up to date.

Thanks to improvements in technology and the range of resources available I’m happy to say there is now a wealth of accessible information. The aim now is to provide a “one-stop-shop” for information for travel health consultations. However if you’re not sure what travel medicine is all about, click on the image below for E learning in the ‘Quick Links’ section at the bottom of this homepage. This will take you to a short module entitled ‘What is Travel’. This will explain more about this field of practice! Ensure you make the best use of the help this website provides! Go to the menu at the very top of the page and hover the ‘mouse’ over each topic – for example, the tab ‘Education’ also includes a page providing information on malaria; a number of videos are found under the ‘Tools’ tab; there’s a large number of resources under the ‘Help’ tab and ‘Links’ tab not only has an alphabetical list of resources but news of other conferences and job adverts in this section. Whilst my experience lies in a GP surgery, if you are a healthcare professional working in one of the settings mentioned, and find it hard to find the time to keep updated, then I hope these tools and resources will help to make your working life in travel health that little bit easier!

The Venn HearmyVoice programme is a coaching and mentoring service designed to promote the development and empowerment of individuals and groups which will lead to big changes being made in the empowerment of primary school to university- level students. It will encourage participants to own their learning. It can also be tailored to suit people in the workplace, and help managers develop their leadership skills. The HearmyVoice student programme is aimed at students from 9 to 25 years old, and starts with a 32-question diagnostic survey, which is an online questionnaire, with eight possible categories, based around the outcomes. From here, the six-week intensive coaching begins, which is tailored around the results to the survey to suit the individual. Once a profile has been established, an adult coach will be assigned for the duration of the course. The HearmyVoice adult programme is designed with the adult in mind. It is aimed at workers with a view to empowerment and self-regulation in the workplace. HearmyVoice has been designed to improve individuals’ aspirations whilst also supporting self-regulation and empowerment in young people and adults. It is primarily aimed for use within the education sector, but can be tailored for use within the workplace. The programme supports organisations to improve performance processes, with the focus on finding solutions rather than reacting to problems. The six-week intensive training can be completed online or face-to-face and can be one-to-one or in larger groups or teams.
