Life and experience taught me that it is never too late to take a leap of faith, change direction, retrain and really start enjoying what you do for a living. After starting full time work at the tender age of 16 and after many years of working in finance, support roles and for large organisations, although this provided me with an excellent foundation in customer services and organisational skills, I decided to eventually take the brave step of retraining whilst on maternity leave, to become a self-employed Lash Artist and Educator and I’ve never looked back. Juggling college life as a mature student whilst raising two small children wasn’t easy to begin with, but with support and patience it has given me the freedom to run my own diary, choose my working patterns and still be there for my family and children. There have been amazing times, some tears and frustrations, but it has given me a sense of achievement and determination to inspire others on their career path, be that part time, as a side-line or full-time career choice. Students come to me from all ages and varied career paths, often with little or no experience and I welcome every single one with enthusiasm, a passion to inspire, encourage and support them on their journey from complete beginner to expert lash and brow artist. I believe that the parenting life stage is fraught with trauma, change and transition. As such it naturally is a time when emotional and mental wellbeing is often tested, strained and vulnerable. P1020162.jpg How we feel during pregnancy about transitioning into motherhood, how we birth and how we are cared for afterwards can all have seismic and long term effects on how we feel and how we parent. Problems with trauma symptoms, anxiety and depression are unsurprisingly common for parents navigating the choppy waters of fertility, pregnancy, birth, post natal recovery and the first year. I love supporting parents so that they can navigate these challenges and to go on and thrive with their families. I have worked with 100s of parents to lift the heavy feelings that can remain after a difficult or traumatic birth, or perinatal experience. I’m a proud mum to 3 wonderful children, and a senior trained nurse with a 15+ year career history within the NHS. My kids transformed my life in so many ways and this led to my passion for nurturing, enriching and helping other women in their motherhood journey. My background is in nursing and caring for the elderly. I started my career as a care home assistant before I trained to become a registered nurse at Kings College, London where I graduated with a BSc Honours Degree in Nursing Studies. I’ve worked at St. George's Hospital in Tooting, The Croydon Community Healthcare Trust and Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal. My nursing roles have varied greatly and include: Orthopeadics, Elderly Hospital-at-Home, Palliative Care (the most beautiful experience), and also Pharmaceutical Research as a Senior Nurse Trainer. In addition to my nursing degree, I am also fully trained in Antenatal and Postnatal Education (both NCT and NHS). This includes Pre & Postnatal Pilates, Pregnancy Yoga Exercises (NCT and Wheel of Yoga Teachers), Baby Massage and Baby Yoga (Accredited by the Royal College of Midwives), and Birth Trauma Support. A full list of my qualifications is shown below. My experience and my love for facilitating group learning led me to set up BellyTots in 2018, to offer a truly holistic approach for supporting mums and mums-to-be through their pregnancy journey and beyond. I continue to teach Antenatal Classes for the NCT and the NHS.
