ABOUT US Enhancing Life Chances by Bringing Communities Together in Handsworth We exist to enhance the life chances of children, young people and families by bringing together diverse communities in Handsworth and across Birmingham. We manage a broad range of community and educational project working alongside our school association members and community partners to improve the lives of families. We focus on enhancing the life chances of children in our city, on family health and wellbeing and on social integration. We do this through our strategic priorities: STRATEGIC PRIORITIES to support schools to work together and share learning for improvement organise initiatives that help to raise the aspirations of local children and their families promote good citizenship and the advancement of learning for all. We have enabled a huge variety of projects since our inception in 1999, including our flagship Young People’s Parliament, our schools learning networks and more recently organising our community’s response to Covid-19 pandemic: creating a food distribution hub from our conference centre.

We believe that every child has the right to a high quality education. The community school programmes began in order to help solve a single, seemingly intractable problem; one-in-two children worldwide are not learning. Since 2009, these programmes have provided a life changing education for children in underserved communities, where there is a shortage of learning. They work in partnership with local communities, teachers, and parents to support and deliver high quality education for primary and pre-primary children. The programmes are data-driven and evidence-based. They have re-engineered every part of the education system, from teacher training and support, to lesson delivery and design, construction, and financial administration; making community schools as effective and transparent as possible. The community school model is accountable to families and; numerous independent exam results in each programme continue to show that the schools are a gateway to success. We are proud to be a partner in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals and a UN Global Compact participant.

ETHOS / AIMS / BELIEFS The Independent Schools Football Association Ltd. (ISFA) is affiliated to The Football Association and is recognised by The FA as the body responsible for the development of the game in the independent sector. ISFA’s ethos is that of an educational organisation. It aims to create opportunities for children within the sector by organising and encouraging competitions, representative teams and development opportunities as well as providing coaching courses and conferences for staff. ISFA believes strongly in football as a vehicle for education and in the importance of Respect and Fair Play. ISFA is a small organisation, with four members of staff and limited financial resources. Consequently, ISFA is heavily dependent on volunteer teachers to deliver its programme; there must therefore necessarily be limitations on what can be delivered, and the Association must set realistic targets. ISFA believes its role is to provide quality competitions, representative football, etc., and aims to encourage and assist its member schools to provide the quantity in terms of participation through regional tournaments, block friendly fixtures, internal school football, etc.

Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) is a charity and international community of mindfulness educators united in our commitment to the wellbeing of the next generation, as well as the adults caring for them. We are the most established provider of mindfulness training for schools, delivering world-leading curricula for classroom-based mindfulness. Our materials are based on rigorous research in clinical psychology and neuroscience, written by teachers for teachers, and used successfully in a wide range of educational contexts.

ESSET is established as a private company limited by guarantee, comprising of the nineteen Essex Special Schools. Directors of the company are the Headteachers of the nineteen schools. The company was established with the aim of leading Special Educational Needs Innovation in Essex providing a vehicle for sharing expertise to ensure all ESSET Schools were supported to provide outstanding outcomes for the young people of Essex.
