manika's indian kitchen
I am a food snob regarding Indian cuisine. It’s why my heart sinks a little when
friends invite me out for ‘an Indian’. I end up with food I tolerate. It is not
up to scratch, mainly because of the way it is prepared. i KNOW WHAT AUTHENTIC
INDIAN FOOD TASTES LIKE It is what my mother gave to me – always prepared from
scratch with the spices, vegetables, fish, meat and chicken she bought at Bull
Ring market in Birmingham and the local Indian corner shop. And I will be
cooking for you just like my mother - but without the hard stares that she would
throw my way if I did not finish every last morsel of the massive portions she
lavished on me! She wasn't being mean - she showed her love for me through food
so it was an emotional experience.
