We recognised a fast pace of solution-based packages which was a rapid shift into a new arena which is as follows: Organisations and many from the Digital Tech industry struggle to find skilled individuals in the above. The Covid pandemic created a greater shift to rely on IT Cloud solutions and more than 95% of staff working remotely, this created the ‘Digital Skills Gap’ or as some say the digital divide.

Bio: Rifa is an award-winning coach, consultant, and connector for the digital and creative industries. She advocates for diversity and inclusion for women and people of colour. Rifa is the organiser of the successful networking group SheSays Brighton for women in tech and the festival director of Spring Forward. She worked for over 25 years as a digital project manager in the tech industry; building large-scale websites, working at a senior level with global clients. Rifa is also a Sivananda Yogi and advanced meditation teacher. She trained with Tibetan Buddhist monks in Nepal and with gurus across India. Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything she does and champions women and people of colour wherever possible.

The future success and prosperity of the economy increasingly depend on our ability to harness talent and to encourage the creativity and innovation of young people. That’s why at Acorn Aspirations we make sure that pupils from all backgrounds, particularly girls and teenagers from underrepresented communities across the UK and globally, have access to technology and entrepreneurship education. This prepares them for the next stage of their lives, be that higher education, pursuing a successful tech career or setting up their own business. Having only launched a year ago we have already worked with over 600 teenagers (aged 12-18) from diverse backgrounds including London’s most underprivileged boroughs, such as Tower Hamlets, Haringey, Tottenham Hale, Barnet, Camden and Southwark. Over 50% of Acorn Aspirations community are girls. At the heart of our mission is to improve social mobility in the digital-technology sector and ensure young people, girls in particular, from underrepresented communities are better prepared for the jobs that do not yet exist.
