I have such passion for the beauty industry and love what I do! Beauty therapists (and hairdressers) have the most rewarding careers it has been stated. I couldn’t agree more! I gained my HND Beauty Therapy Qualification in 2001 from Central College of Commerce to allow me to work in an industry I loved. Since then I have worked continually to increase my skills and qualifications yearly by attending University (distance learning), nail and beauty courses, seminars, workshops and trade events. 15 years working in the beauty industry has made my career evolve and it continues to be a rewarding vocation. carol hendrie Where it all began My journey started in 1998 by doing night classes at college while working on cosmetic counters specialising in make-up. I worked in salons then went on to become a Business Manager for Clarins, beauty manager at The McDonald Inchyra hotel before becoming a salon owner in Falkirk for nearly 4 years. It was then when I specialised in acrylic and gel nail extensions as well as providing beauty treatments. I started teaching in 2003 at Forth Valley College whilst running my salon. After nearly 4 successful years in business a full time teaching opportunity arose in one of Scotland’s leading Colleges and I was the happiest girl alive when I got offered the full time position! Since 2006 I have gained the assessor and verifier award before developing my academic skills further completing a Degree in Professional Development (BAPD) at Aberdeen University whilst working in 2016 following on from my teaching qualification (TQFE) in 2011. Nail, Beauty and Make-up Courses in Falkirk The passion, experience and skills I have gained in the beauty industry and academically over 15 years has lead me to this point. I love teaching nails and beauty and find it so rewarding to see people achieve personal goals. I have taught thousands of students over the years and believe I can give you the best experience possible. I want to make you the best you can be through guidance and support even after you have trained. Whether it is to start a brand new career or to develop new or previously learned skills I can help you on your journey. The unique teaching experience I will provide is delivered to a small group with a maximum of 8. This ensures the learning experience is of a high quality, attention to detail and it will allow each individual to have the support they require to develop their skills.

Broom Swim School is a privately run family business, based in the gardens of The Grange and is run by Sallie and Alice Walters. The team at Broom always maintain the best standards of teaching and cleanliness, with organised, efficient and professional staff. Broom also has the warmest water locally, set at a balmy 31.5°C. The story of Broom Swim School starts in 1975 when Sallie’s parents, David and Gillian Burden, moved to The Grange and discovered, within it’s overgrown garden, an ornamental Victorian fish pond, complete with pondweed, fish and frogs! Having fished out all the occupants, the pond was converted into an outdoor family swimming pool. In 1986 Sallie returned from London and its office jobs to start up her own business. Having always been a very keen swimmer, competing for the Avon Neptunes in Stratford, Worcester City and various school clubs. Sallie took her ASA Preliminary Teachers Certificate at Crystal Palace, and spent the summer teaching locals, relatives and other unsuspecting people to swim in the family’s outdoor pool. The old wood sheds were converted into changing rooms, and ever eager punters had to race across the lawn, towel in hand, to plunge into the relatively warm water. Once Sallie was fully qualified as an ASA Level 2 Teacher and RLSS Lifeguard, the pool was enclosed within a wooden, log cabin style building. The official opening day was on Saturday 2nd April 1988, when more than 250 people tramped around the pool house and garden, and more importantly, booked lessons and sessions in the pool. In 2009 Sallie’s eldest daughter, Alice, started to work at the Swim School part-time as a fully qualified lifeguard. A keen and competitive swimmer herself, she swam at competition level for Stratford Sharks and school, and then qualified as an ASA Level Two Swimming Teacher. Alice’s love of sports led her to study Sport & Social Sciences at the University of Bath, and after a stint working in London for the 2012 Olympic Organising Committee, she found herself being drawn back to Warwickshire life. Alice now works full-time at the Swim School teaching and running the office with Sallie; and has become the third generation involved in the family business, alongside Sallie’s brother Angus Burden who is our Head of Maintenance. In November 2017, Broom Swim School was honoured and thrilled to be awarded “Swim School Of The Year” at the National Swim England Awards held at Birmingham University. The award means the world to us and our team, and we have dedicated this to the late David and Gillian Burden, without whom there would be no swimming in the garden at Broom.

Together, the six universities that make up the UNITA European Universities Network group over 160.000 students and 13.000 teaching staff. From west to east, UNITA consists of: Universidade de Beira Interior, Universidad de Zaragoza, Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour, Université Savoie Mont Blanc, Università di Torino and the West University of Timisoara. I’ve worked for more than 30 years delivering and managing services in the public sector to support disabled people. In 1997 I moved into higher education becoming the manager of the disability service at the University of the West of England in Bristol. After UWE, I was the manager of an educational development project in Manchester before two roles in national coordination teams. As part of the National Disability Team I oversaw £2.1m of HEFCE funding across 23 projects in a range of HEIs in England. The projects were funded to set up disability provision from scratch within small specialist institutions and to develop a range of inclusive teaching, learning and assessment resources for the sector. I was then senior policy adviser at Action on Access, the national coordination team for widening participation. I’ve worked in a consultancy capacity and been a member of policy groups for a range of projects and organisations including, the Institute of Physics, the Higher Education Academy, the General Teaching Council for England, the Quality Assurance Agency, and a number of universities including York, Durham, Huddersfield, Middlesex and Cardiff Metropolitan. I was a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Disability Practitioners for a number of years and I’m now the CEO of the International Network of Inclusive Practice. I recently worked as a visiting lecturer at the Education University, Hong Kong and currently work as a lecturer at London South Bank University.
