The Climate Centre’s mission is to help the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and its partners reduce the impacts of climate change and extreme-weather events on vulnerable people. In recent decades, there has been a sharp increase in weather-related disasters with climate change and there is an urgent need to manage the rising risk of extreme-weather events through better early-warning, disaster relief and risk reduction, and with climate-smart programmes for health and care, water and sanitation, and food security. Our approach, working at the intersection of science, policy, and practice, is detailed in our Strategy 2021−2025. A core objective is to make the best global scientific insights operable at local level. Key elements include support for awareness-raising and capacity-building, especially in developing countries whose people are the most vulnerable to climate change. Policy needs to be geared toward climate-smart planning, including better dialogues involving a wide range of stakeholders. The Climate Centre focuses primarily on providing guidance and tools to National Societies and their partners, and fostering the exchange of experience, training and technical back-up for Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers, delegates and managers specializing in disaster risk management and health. In the international arena we facilitate access to climate-related channels of funding and advocate for support to the most vulnerable people in debates on climate policy, especially the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the annual UN climate talks, but also related international discussions on development and humanitarian policy and finance.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to The Blue School website. The Blue is a remarkable school. Our school is built around our collective community of wonderful individuals, working toward a shared vision. That makes our school a vibrant and exciting place to study and work. The Blue has served the City of Wells and its surrounding communities since 1641. That history is important to us. It creates an exceptionally strong common ethos that binds generations of families, all of whom have passed through the school. Our core values – respect, empathy, politeness – have been fundamental to the school for over three centuries and continue to serve our community well. Building on our status as a Research School, we have established ourselves as a centre of excellence for teaching. Our broad, creative curriculum strives to give our students a social and academic belonging. Combining close, personal pastoral care, with high academic standards, our students develop the wide range of skills necessary to thrive in the modern world and lead a physically, mentally and spiritually healthy life. We are proud to be a Church school and believe that this supports the emphasis on our core values for all our students. At the Little Art School we put nurturing and confidence building at the heart of our classes. The course has been designed to build self-esteem in children and the environment our classes are held in have an ambience of calm and gentleness which helps the children to relax and encourages their creativity. As children get older they begin to be more self-critical and much more self-conscious. At the Little Art School we have only one rule: we don’t allow children to be highly critical of their work, there are no “Mine’s Rubbish!!” uttered in the class. At the end of each class every child is encouraged to point out which part of their painting or drawing they are particularly pleased with. At the start of their time with us some of the older children find this quite difficult, preferring to avoid ridicule by denigrating their work. However, as the weeks go by, they understand that this is an environment where the ability to look for the positive is actively encouraged. They become much more able to search for what they like in their work and they begin to see the painting in a different, infinitely more positive, way. By searching for the positive aspects of their art their perception of the work transforms. We also encourage the children to praise the work of their classmates. For older children this can be difficult at first, the need to look ‘cool’ at the latter end of the time a primary school only intensifies in secondary school.

Duet Academy of Dance

Duet Academy of Dance was established in 1997 with classes held in Glen Parva. All lessons are given under the personal tuition of the principal teacher, Miss Sara, who has been teaching for more than 30 years and is a fully qualified, registered teacher of the British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA). We are delighted to have recently welcomed former Duet dancer, Miss Lyd, to the teaching faculty. Miss Lyd brings a wealth of performance experience being actively involved in a wide variety of shows at The Little Theatre. MIss Lyd taken part in the annual pantomimes for the past 10 years, 8 of which as dance captain. She is also a qualified zumba instructor. Lessons are held in ballet, tap, modern jazz, acrobatics and stage performance. All students are given the opportunity to take examinations leading to accredited qualifications and to take part in our annual show and medal tests focusing on performance skills. Lessons are structured to improve your child's social and listening skills, develop confidence, build self-esteem and assist with their physical development and mental well-being. For the younger children we have lots of dancing fun, singing, making friends and is a brilliant introduction to music and movement to help them to appreciate the joy of dance from an early age. Our focus for all age groups is on building confidence, learning new skills and having fun. We teach children from 3 years of age to adults and take great pride in seeing them excel as they progress their journey in dance.

The Carbon Landscape is a diverse landscape of water, fen, wet grassland, wet woodland and lowland raised bog with a rich natural environment woven into its industrial heritage. It boasts rare wildlife like willow tits, bitterns, great crested newts, water voles, bog mosses and black-necked grebes. The Carbon Landscape has a variety of wetlands. Plan your visit. It has different designations and declarations ranging from the internationally important Special Area for Conservation (SAC), nationally important (Sites of Special Scientific Interest), National Nature Reserves, Local Nature Reserves, Sites of Biological Interest (Greater Manchester Ecology Unit) to local wildlife corridors and stepping stones that people regularly enjoy. Working with fourteen delivery partners the Carbon Landscape encompasses sites across the Flashes of Wigan and Leigh National Nature Reserve with SSSI designation at Ince Moss and Abram Flashes Mosslands of Wigan, Salford and Warrington proposed National Nature Reserve including parts of remnant lowland raised bogs with SAC designation at Risley, Holcroft and Bedford and Astley Mosses. Mersey Wetlands Corridor stretching from where the Irwell meets the Manchester Ship Canal, including Woolston Eyes (SAC), Rixton (SAC) and Paddington Meadows in Warrington. The Carbon Landscape is the flagship programme of the Great Manchester Wetlands Partnership. Delivery partners came together to deliver, a £3.2million programme funded by the Heritage Fund (2017 – 2022). Please see our Success Stories. Our wildlife is connected through habitat restoration, access improvements and capacity building within our local communities. In this way nature and local custodians come together to enable a resilient post-industrial landscape on the doorsteps of two million people.

HENRY provides a wide range of support for families from pregnancy to age 12 including workshops, programmes, resources and online help. All of our support for families is underpinned by the HENRY approach to supporting behaviour change which helps parents gain the confidence, knowledge and skills they need to help the whole family adopt a healthier, happier lifestyle and to give their children a great start in life. We also work with health, early years, and family support practitioners, helping them develop the skills to support families make real and lasting changes that will help the whole family have a brighter future.
