Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) was developed by Master Kusum Modak [http://www.yogaspira.com/kusum_interview.html] in Pune, India, after many years of studying traditional Ayurvedic massage and Iyengar yoga. Treatments are deeply relaxing and nourishing, and can be as gentle or deep as appropriate for the client on the day. Like yoga, AYM treatments can look very different, as we adjust the treatments to the needs of different clients on different days. The style of each session is adjusted to serve client needs, so sessions can be more or less dynamic, deep, energetic, slow, nurturing and soothing. The aim of the sessions is to help the client feel more centred, and the energy to flow more freely through the body. This usually includes an oil massage and stretches if appropriate for the client - like something that might be included in a sports massage, physio or osteo treatment. But, in the tradition of Ayurveda, we recognise that it is not only the quality of the soft tissues that we need to work with. Our state of mind and our feelings are not independent of how we feel in our physical bodies. So our primary objective is always to work in a way that allows the client to feel relaxed and safe in their body, and able to breathe deeply. As part of that process, we work to create a safe and nurturing space for the client, and we also try to activate the breathing muscles, relax the tissues around the rib cage, abdomen and pelvis, and promote awareness of the breath. Then we focus on physically softening any tension in the muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, and to promote healthy joint mobility, by encouraging the nervous system to relax, as well as by physically manipulating tissues with oil massage, passive stretches, tractions and mobilisations as appropriate. By helping clients feel more safe, supported and well in their bodies we can also help reduce stress levels, and promote the healthy function of all the body’s systems. Treatments are sometimes focused on the area where there is an injury or pain, but generally, over a course of treatments we tend to work with the whole body, as everything is interconnected through the nervous system, fascia, circulation and through our movement patterns. So depending on what the client’s priorities are, we usually recommend a series of treatments to help promote the health of the whole body, and to help work on the causes of the issues that the client wants to work on. Regular treatments can also help to promote our physical and mental health, so we can work towards being as healthy and well as we can. Prevention is always better than cure, and by working on our wellness we can really start seeing the benefits in our life, relationships and our work, as well as on our physical and mental health. AYM is always adjusted to the needs of the client on the day, but it is usually a deep tissue oil massage followed by assisted yoga stretches, tractions and mobilisations. The Street Soccer Academy is a newly formed project recruiting the best talent from in and around London after the Nike academy collapse. The Street Soccer Academy host trials through application, where the successful candidates will be invited to an evaluation on technical, tactical, physical and mental abilities. Only a successful players from the trialist will be chosen to form the Street Soccer Academy Team who will go on to play academy and pre-academy sides, numerous showcase matches through out the season against foreign and British professional and ex professional players overseen by domestic British and foreign clubs. These players will be required to train together with showcase matches up to 2 times a month, to attend branded events and tournaments with opportunities of sponsorship and professional/semi-professional opportunities . The final Street Soccer Academy team will undergo frequent filmed game analysis where individual performances will be tracked for improvements and adjustments, as well as footage edited to contribute towards a players CV for an invite into future clubs. Players will also be documented to track progress and give a behind the scenes look into sports science, fitness methodology, individual coaching, talent ID and mental training on the path to a professional career. The Trial Alongside performance on the day we have an Academy lounge set up for football specific guest speakers, workshops and presentations with the professional advice corner on nutrition. Players will be required to undergo fitness test, technical ability challenges as well as physical and mental evaluations before undergoing numerous small sided games. (These small sided games will be recorded with game footage sent back to individuals upon request.) Players can also join being out of contract or contracted (In a team or out of a team), the academy is a great shop window for non-professional players to showcase their talent through our set up. Unsuccessful trialist who show strong potential will be invited to our advanced training centres and be at times asked to train alongside the first team as replacements for subsequent injuries or absentees with the possibility of making it into the squad full time. I am a Chartered member of both IOSH and CIEH and on the OSHCR register. I initially set up this business to provide practical and authoritative training in health and safety regulation and enforcement. Everything I include in my training is drawn from my 25+ years experience as a health and safety regulator, lecturer and Practitioner. During this time I have used the full range of enforcement options drawn from complex criminal investigation resulting in service of notices to prosecution of both individuals and large businesses. I worked for HSE for two years and held a full Inspectors Warrant providing advice and support to HSE and local authorities. I have investigated or managed many different incidents resulting in broken bones, multiple injuries and many fatalities. Here are a few: Crushed by barrier Fatal scalding Explodng tandoori oven Slip accident Fatality at a nightclub Child falls 15ft at a nursery Asbestos release 9m Fall from care home window I managed a team of local authority health and safety regulators and acted as mentor for their investigations. This involved providing advice on appropriate action, use of powers under S20 Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, providing advice on investigations and supporting them through to prosecution where appropriate. This has enabled me to develop detailed practical skills in investigation and interview techniques, PACE interviewing (including PEACE), dealing with lawyers and building successful cases for prosecution. I also provide advice to other local authorites assisting them in their investigations, reviewing prosecution files, acting as second interviewing officer and advising on all matters in between. For many years, I acted as the local authority liaison officer providing support to those bereaved following workplace fatalities. I have written guidance on this role which forms the basis of my training in family liaison. I have produced reports for coroners inquests and have presented evidence during inquests.

Professor of Clinical Traumatology, Sir Keith Porter is involved in the treatment of some of University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust’s (UHB) most complex injury cases. He trained at St Thomas’ Hospital in London in the 1970s before being jointly appointed at the Birmingham Accident Hospital and Selly Oak Hospital in April 1986. He was awarded a professorship by UHB, the University of Birmingham and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in 2005 and was knighted for his role in developing trauma treatment for injured British soldiers in 2010. I am proud of the achievements from the robust civilian-military partnership between the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, during the last decade. There have been significant advances in pre hospital care with critical care interventions and blood delivered by the MERT team and the introduction of haemostatic resuscitation and damage control principles in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, such that patients have progressively survived more severe injuries in the last decade particularly as the IED have become more sophisticated and destructive. Birmingham has responded and moved forward the boundaries of continued resuscitation, wound surgery and surgical reconstruction using concepts and techniques that are not in war textbooks and have required bespoke and innovative solutions. Landmark advances have included debridement strategies, proactively managing the continuing inflammatory response, defining and understanding complex microbiological challenges including fungal infections and devising bespoke surgical solutions particularly for soft tissue loss. Integral to improving functional outcome has been our close working with Headley Court. Clinicians have worked closely with DSDL, defence research and the NIHRSRMC to come up with solutions to the research questions these complex patient generate. With several hundred unexpected survivors from recent campaigns, QEHB is proud of the part it has played in the chain of care and is working with the RCDM and defence medical services to capture the lessons learnt in what will be a live and evolving document.
