Pilates is very similar to Yoga, in that it is a form of mind-body exercise,
however the primary focus of Pilates is developing a strong core by bringing the
body back into balance. This is achieved through essentially connecting the
mind, breath and movements. Joseph Pilates created the technique through
determination to overcome his childhood illness and ailments and the practice
today follows the fundamental of Pilate’s exercises by segmenting them into 8
guiding principles. By bringing the 8 principles together, we are able to
perform precise full body-movements, move naturally along with the breath,
control muscular movement within exercise, and remain focused on keeping our
bodies aligned, amongst others.
