NSA Afan is a member led, community based regeneration organisation that is a Company Limited by Guarantee, (3674953) and a Registered Charity, (1088934) and is governed by a Board of Director Trustees. The purpose of the organisation is to support regeneration to enable a better quality of life for people living in the most disadvantaged communities in the Swansea Bay Area. Charitable Objectives ■The promotion for the public benefit of urban or rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation and in particular the electoral divisions currently known as Sandfields East, West and Aberavon. ■ The advancement of education, training or retraining, particularly amongst unemployed people and providing unemployed people with work experience ■ To relieve sickness and to preserve and protect good health ■ The relief of poverty ■ To provide recreational facilities for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances have need of such facilities ■ The maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities ■ The promotion of public safety and the prevention of crime ■ Such other means as may from time to time be determined subject to the prior written consent of the charity commissioner for England and Wales

The NCSEM East Midlands (NCSEM-EM) is one of three hubs forming the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine, along with London and Sheffield. The East Midlands hub is a partnership between the University of Leicester, Loughborough University, The University of Nottingham, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The NCSEM-EM aims to apply world-class expertise to policies and practice that will benefit the health and wellbeing of the nation – from everyday people at risk of ill health through to elite athletes. Evidence shows that sport, exercise and physical activity are effective in the prevention, treatment and management of disease and can enhance mental health and wellbeing, reducing the risk of mental illnesses such as depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s. The NCSEM-EM builds on this evidence in key research areas which are translated into teaching and training through our educational programmes and the clinical services we offer. The NCSEM-EM has a hub and spoke structure with the hub based in a newly built facility at Loughborough University. The building has been specifically designed to bring together the research, education and clinical capabilities of the partner universities and NHS trusts to facilitate the translation of research into education, training and clinical services.
