We all go through low points at times in our lives and it is not unusual to experience symptoms related to stress, anxiety and depression. Merton Uplift is an integrated Primary Care Mental Health service accessible to anyone living in the borough of Merton or registered with a Merton GP who are 18 years and over. We support anyone who has a mental health or wellbeing need, whether this is due to emotional difficulties or life stressors. We also offer a service for people with a stable mental health diagnosis such as psychosis and Bipolar Affective disorder. Merton Uplift is a partnership between the NHS and local voluntary sector organisations and launched on the 1st April 2019. With values based on empowerment and building resilience within the community we tailor support to the individual. Wellbeing is core to our service with Wellbeing Navigators working in collaboration with all elements within Merton Uplift. We can support your mental health and wellbeing needs through a number of ways including: Self management courses Psychological therapies Psychiatric assessments Recovery and Wellbeing support Liaison with other Trust services: There will be seamless liaison with, and transfer of service user care to secondary care mental health services run by the Trust from Merton Uplift if clinical risk requires this. This pathway will be managed through daily interface meetings between Merton Uplift and the Merton Assessment Team. The HSA is an independent registered charity, founded in 1911. It is the only UK charity concerned exclusively in the promotion of the humane treatment of all food animals worldwide in markets, during transport, at slaughter, and killing for welfare reasons and disease control. Growing numbers of people are interested and concerned about the welfare of the animals that provide them with food and the HSA has gained an international reputation for providing practical, science-based solutions to improve food animal welfare. The objectives of the HSA are: The promotion of humane methods of slaughter; The introduction of reforms in livestock markets (including transport facilities) where needed to prevent the suffering of animals. The HSA works to achieve these through providing: Technical information and advice on all aspects of animal handling, transport and slaughter. Training and education in humane methods of handling and slaughter of livestock for farmers, vets, abattoir staff and students. Technical and educational publications in a range of formats. Independent advice to governments, animal welfare organisations and the food industry worldwide. Visits to farm animal handling and slaughtering facilities, recommending and advising on improvements where necessary. Funding and support for essential research and other projects aimed at improving animal welfare during transport, in markets and at slaughter. Assistance with development and application of scientific advances into the working practices of the meat industry. The HSA's work has resulted in many significant improvements for food animals around the world and many of the reforms it has promoted in transport, markets and slaughter are now taken for granted. Significant improvements continue to be achieved through working constructively alongside agricultural, meat industry, veterinary and other welfare and professional organisations. As a teenage gymnast, my weight was constantly being monitored by well-intentioned coaches and I started to develop a very unhealthy relationship with food; periods of eating very little, followed by uncontrolled binge eating. It took nearly a decade for me to completely heal my relationship with food. This long and arduous struggle is what inspired me to study clinical nutrition at Cornell University. As a dietician in a hospital setting 30+ years ago, I cared for many very sick patients who were often unwittingly sabotaging their health with their lifestyle choices. Now, thankfully, we know the monumental impact of nutrition on the prevention and reversal of chronic disease, but at the time, medical nutrition therapy was not considered an evidenced based science. lt was terribly frustrating to witness the patient disconnect with regard to their own lifestyle choices and their health. Consequently, I left the field and returned to school to study pharmacy. During my 20 years of hospital pharmacy practice, I have observed an incredible rise in the rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and I was again feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. I really wanted and needed to put health into my practice as a healthcare professional! My final wake-up call came a couple of years ago, when two of my colleagues (very close to my age) tragically died of cancer. They were only 58 and 62. It really forced me to look at my life and ask the questions-- What really matters to me and what do I want my life to stand for? During this same period, I completed a pharmacy continuing education module in health coaching, and I knew I had found the path to fulfill my potential as a true health advocate. I then applied to one of the best programs in the country, and completed my certification in Integrative Health Coaching at Duke Integrative Medicine.

Strong Like a Mutha was Founded in 2016 by Lyndsey Roberts after the birth of her son. Having previously been a professional dancer and exercised her whole life, Lyndsey found herself in a whole new world with a high risk pregnancy and very little evidence based information on safe and effective training for women in her situation. Ultimately this resulted in the complete halting of exercise which then caused lots of pain and discomfort throughout her pregnancy. Returning to exercise postnatally Lyndsey knew there had to be more information out there and began to feel drawn to helping and supporting women in the fitness industry. And so Strong Like a Mutha was born! Lyndsey and the SLAM community have created a gym environment (The Mutha Ship) that is welcoming, inviting, non-intimidating and allows its members to work as hard as they like. Liverpool Law Society boasts 2500 or so members in practice; it is one of the largest local Law Societies in England and Wales. Membership is broad and varies from practitioners engaged in high-value commercial work to complex charity work. The Society prides itself in being at the forefront of debate and has been able to communicate on behalf of its members their concerns in a number of areas both public and professional, and at regional and national levels. The directors meet twice a year with local MPs where there is exchange of information, news about bills going through parliament and constituent issues are raised and discussed and parliamentary questions are put down on behalf of LLS members. Separately, the directors also meet with the nominated councillors from the Liverpool City Region local authorities. This again is a useful way of ensuring our members’ concerns and issues, including those of their clients, can be raised at one of these meetings. The councillors also come to the Society with matters their constituents are facing and we work together on joint initiatives where there is a common aim. The Society also has good communication channels with The Law Society, the SRA and the LeO, where members’ issues can be raised and matters affecting the legal profession discussed. On a regional level, Liverpool Law Society is a member of the Joint V, a grouping of autonomous local law societies that meet and discuss common issues affecting membership organisations for legal professionals, sharing best practice. The members of the Joint V are Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester Law Societies. United the Joint V have a strong voice nationally, representing over 10,000 legal professionals. In addition to our representation role, Liverpool Law Society runs an extensive legal training programme with approximately 100 seminars and conferences organised every year in various specialist areas of law.
