Elaine Whittaker - yogabeing

elaine whittaker - yogabeing

My name is Elaine and I love yoga! I've been enjoying yoga myself for about 45 years and teaching for 15 years. My Bicester yoga classes are gentle and mindful. No rushing from posture to posture. We take time to be. My aim when teaching is for you to be comfortable, relaxed and happy. For you to feel calm and confident, free from physical tension and mental stress. Most of the ladies in my classes are in their 50's, 60's and 70's and appreciate the more gentle approach I take in teaching. Classes start with a short period of breath awareness, followed by some gentle warm up movements. Then we enjoy some postures (asanas) often in the form of sequences so you can lose yourself in the soft flow of the movements. We finish with some breathwork (pranayama) and a lovely relaxation leaving you feeling calm and peaceful. I like to drip in little glimpses of the philosophy behind yoga and will sometimes share a short reading or poem to enhance the mood of the class. In addition, I integrate aspects of mindfulness into my teaching. Whilst none of us can remove the stresses from our lives, we can develop coping mechanisms to avoid tension building physically, mentally and emotionally. Yoga can help you release tight muscles and improve your sense of balance physically and mentally. You learn to unravel the knots of physical, mental and emotional tension and gain a greater sense of wellbeing. Let your yoga class be an oasis of calm in a busy life... like pressing a pause button .. time to unwind and refresh. Beginners are always welcome - my gentle style of teaching means all can enjoy classes. Come and find your inner goddess .. that calm, tranquil woman who can sometimes become hidden in a busy life. London

Calm Collective Yoga and Well-Being Studio was founded on the simple premise of bringing people together through the teachings and practice of yoga. It was born from the idea that Yoga is for everyone and that anyone can come and enjoy the space whether they are pros or beginners, and feel comfortable. Seva Community CIC is our Not for Profit business, which focuses on inclusive, accessible and low cost or free sessions for people in our local and wider community. Whether you are looking for a relaxing meditations, active flow Yoga classes or anything in between, the one thing that everyone has in common in our space is a sense of community. We are all embarking on this journey together which is far better than going at it alone, neuroscience proves that we are wired to connect and at Calm Collective we have created a community driven space where we can come together, be together, thrive together. Our Story Calm Collective is a family run studio, founded by Mother & Daughter duo, Tracy & Lua. “We created Calm Collective to share the gifts that Yoga gave us during difficult periods in our life. We lived as a single parent household and were faced with many of the challenges that life threw our way, including loss, anxiety & depression. After Tracy stepped away from working full time in the city, and Lua left university, we opened the studio to give back what we received from our Yoga practice. Through hard work, and the support of our community, we are now able to provide wonderful classes, therapies and so much more in our Sidcup studio and out in the local area. We hope to share the joy and healing of Yoga with you too.”

You Can Cook

you can cook

Peebles

You Can Cook is a celebration of food, people and cultures!  You Can Cook was established in 2007 and was set up to encourage and empower local communities to make informed choices about their food and health.  Healthy eating initiatives are promoted through every service from cookery classes, demonstrations, workshops, talks and seminars with training for young people in primary and secondary schools, youth groups, families, elderly, disadvantaged communities and individuals with allergies and food intolerances. A safe and relaxed environment is created where people from all ages can come together, socialise, rediscover and explore a healthier approach to cooking with simple and nutritious ingredients using seasonal and local produce. You Can Cook has created an off-shoot, You Can Grow which helps to raise awareness of how and where our food comes from and also introduces the concept of growing food free of chemical fertilisers and pesticides in client’s gardens and allotments.  This is done by teaching clients how to convert their outdoor/indoor paces into edible gardens or working together in community allotments using organic/permaculture principles. Another initiative to come out of this off-shoot is the launch of a book for growers in Scotland, aimed at aspiring growers of all ages, beginners and experts too. The book is a simple, practical guide to help purchasers take the first steps to growing their own food and have fun at the same time. There is no need to buy expensive starter kits to get growing as the book is full of easy to find and use household items that are normally thrown away and which can be recycled to help in the growing process. This is the first book published by a Community Interest Company and Social Enterprise aimed at Scottish growers. The book is priced at £12.99 and proceeds from sales mean that the Organisation is able to reach more families and communities across Scotland, helping them to grow and cook their own delicious food. The book is available in all big and independent bookstores in the UK, including online through our website.
