The history of how Chikara came about goes right back to 1977 when the founder Sensei Mark D’Arcy 7th Dan started training at the oval karate club, a club led by the late sensei Doug Phillips 6th Dan. Sensei Phillips taught Shotokan karate on the Wirral from the late 1960’s and was a close personal friend to Kanazawa Sensei, during the following years the oval changed its name to Sen-no-Sen under the expert teachings and guidance of the then president Sensei Ronnie Colwell, teaching and classes were of the highest standard in kumite, kata and kobudo. In 1986 Chikara was born and affiliated with the BKA, it’s first dojo opening in pensby on the Wirral. To date Chikara has four dojo’s across the Wirral, Pensby, Upton, Hoylake and Noctorum with 5 sessions a week available. All Chikara members are fully licensed and insured through the BKA. The BKA are full members of the EKF (English Karate Federation) and the WKF (World Karate Federation). The BKA and Chikara provide training opportunities with top class instructors across many styles to compliment our own training. The Association also provides National Championships every year and access to International events via the BKA squad. Chikara has gone through many changes over the years to bring new opportunities and activities to the students, under the guidance of the two Senior Instructors sensei’s Mark D’Arcy (6th Dan) and the late Dave Young (5th Dan), who have both been involved in Martial Arts and more specifically Shotokan karate for over 30 years. Chikara provides training throughout each week with different instructors at different locations across the Wirral.

Caithness

Caithness flagstone is a Devonian sandstone, named after the Northern Scottish county in which it is most abundant and famous for its jet black appearance when polished. The flagstone is unrivalled in its versatility and durability, as a result of this, it can be found around the world in paving, architecture and, more recently, interiors. We've spent a long time getting to know the properties of this fascinating material and discovering how best to apply its exceptional properties to stylish and practical solutions for modern living interior and exterior projects. All quarrying, processing, hand finishing and quality control checks are done by us at source in Caithness, shipping orders around the UK and beyond. Over 25 years' combined experience means we know exactly which layer to extract and how to cut and finish the stone to ensure a stunning end product. Caithness flagstone was formed some 370 million years ago as result of subsidence and deposition in a structural basin known as the Orcadian Cuvette, also known as Lake Orcadia. The material was believed to have been discovered by Stoneage farmers who used it to structure their impressive tombs. In the 19th century the Caithness flagstone industry was buoyant, and the material was shipped all over the world from 11 major quarries in Caithness. It was during this time that the 'Spittal beds' were discovered to contain the finest grade material for strength and durability combined. Norse Stone operates two quarries in Caithness - Lieurary and Banniskirk, both are located near the village of Halkirk. These are within the Spittal beds, giving us access to the best Caithness flagstone available.

The Vale Academy is situated in the small market town of Brigg in North Lincolnshire. We are a successful and high-achieving school. The Bike Station refurbished and recycles used bikes for our communities, in hopes of making Scotland a great place to cycle.The Bike Station’s mission is to develop environmentally sustainable communities by empowering people to have greater freedom of movement. Our Programmes support healthier, happier and more affordable journeys. Using bicycles as a vehicle for social change is at the heart of everything we do. Our bikes play a vital part in providing an affordable and reliable means of transport, helping contribute to an individual’s personal and financial wellbeing. Annually we save over 10,000 bikes a year from landfill and provide over 2,500 people with affordable refurbished bicycles. Our community activity is well established, and across our programmes we enable greater: Access to affordable bikes Mental health and confidence building Skills development and pathways to employment Our diverse team of mechanics and volunteers refurbish bicycles, which become the foundation for our community activities. The bikes not used for communities work are for sale in our shops. We work with a range of communities, including youth groups. employability charities, all-ability cycling groups, prisons, universities, nurseries and workplaces.
