And with the ever-increasing pressure from above, genuine opportunities for face-to-face dialogue and independent thinking can be squeezed out. Our mission to is empower teachers to find the opportunities for independent thinking in their existing curriculum. We work with many schools that have already tried Philosophy for Children and we're often told “We value P4C, but we want to make it happen. How can we embed it into our curriculum?" Our unique approach, Philosophy Circles, encourages the facilitator to ask the first question, so the discussion gets started faster. The children’s own questions are still important, but they emerge through discussion. It makes it more fast-paced and versatile for use across the curriculum. Handouts from training courses often sit in the "INSET graveyard'. It's full of ideas that sounded great on the day but which never quite got passed on to colleagues. So we provide minibooks with busy teachers in mind, and following the course our huge range of resources means there's every support for you and colleagues continue using P4C regularly.

Professionally and personally I have always been curious about what makes people ‘tick’ and fascinated by the way we all see the world differently. No matter the talent or capability of an individual, the variable nature of their performance and self-belief remained a mystery and I was interested to understand more about this. In my career as a Learning and Development professional, coach, facilitator and consultant I have worked with leaders through to teams at the customer facing end of business. I’ve supported individuals and organisations to overcome challenges and make the most of their unlimited potential. I’ve explored motivational and psychological theories, I’ve studied behavioural preference models and used various tools and techniques. I’ve implemented behavioural frameworks and designed development strategies, all with the purpose of finding that ‘thing’ that would make a sustainable difference to motivation, performance and well-being. In 2012, in my continuing study of human development, I was introduced to an understanding of the mind I’d not been aware of before. Here were scientific principles that explain all human behaviour, performance and motivation – without exception. It turned my view of how we function and experience our world inside out, literally! I realised that I was not up against what I thought and from that moment, without any conscious effort, life just got simpler, easier and lighter.

About Miss Vidler IT Our consultant Rachel Vidler is a qualified Primary school teacher, with a wealth of experience in both teaching and technology. Her teaching and ability to engage and inspire children through the use of technology, has been recognised, with her winning the prestigious Most Inspirational Teacher of the Year 2018 award. Her previous career in primary schools allows her to give support and guidance from all aspects of the profession, as she has been as a teacher, a coach and mentor, a member of senior leadership and a member of the governing body. She holds a first-class BEd (Hons) degree with QTS, alongside her NPQML qualification. Rachel was one of the first teachers to complete the DfE Subject Leader Expert qualification in 2015, working as an SLE for computing across the county. She now supports STEM Learning and the National Centre for Computing Education as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), working with schools across the East Midlands, East of England and East and South Yorkshire. Rachel also works alongside the NCCE nationally, as a Facilitator for their Teach Computing Primary Courses. Rachel proudly supports the Denbigh School Computing Hub working as their Primary Lead for Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire. She works alongside the Hub Lead to support schools in the area, boosting engagement in computing and hosting CPD for teachers.

Leona Creator of Artists Resource & Lead Facilitator Leona created Artists Resource in 2011 with the Mission “To bring people together, to nurture Creativity and facilitate Transformation – for the benefit of the individual and the community.” She started with one small Art club in North London and in just a couple of years had grown to teaching in Schools every day and hosting Art Parties and Classes at the weekend. In 2018-19, Leona has provided Art workshops for the England football team and BAFTA. Leona has a strong background in material processes and techniques, having a degree in Applied Arts and applying that throughout her career. Prior to setting up Artists Resource, Leona worked for a Art & Craft company, managing concession stands in Harrods, Hamleys and UK Trade Fairs and made Mosaic Murals for School Playgrounds with a local Artist. She also worked on the Art Dept for various independent short and feature films. Leona has specialised in Sculpture and Mosaic Art has her own Public Artworks in Mile End (E3), Muswell Hill (N10) and in various public and private sites in London. Nicki and Lisa met in 2009 – on an advanced communication skills course! Lisa was a delegate and Nicki was training to be a facilitator. Lisa subsequently also went through training (she says it’s the most rigorous training she has ever done) . Their working partnership developed over the subsequent years, and they began facilitating courses together regularly in about 2012. They have worked together across England and Wales, and in Ireland. Nicki has had the opportunity to travel to both New Zealand and Singapore to deliver communication skills training. Lisa is not at all jealous… It is very clear to them that the need for communication skills training amongst healthcare professionals is huge, with doctors, nurses and AHPs being asked to have the most difficult conversations with patients and their families without the skills that could make those conversations go as well as possible. The evidence that communication skills can be learned is clear, but staff are not being offered the opportunity to optimise their skills. This feels unfair. In order to continue to be able to deliver training and to develop new facilitators, Nicki and Lisa created Reach in 2018. Both were still in full time NHS employment at the time, but have since retired from clinical work to concentrate on training. They both love what they do

Training for Facilitators EAQ offers a number of training programmes for facilitators including the Level 4 Certificate in Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning. The Level 4 Certificate is a national qualification which is regulated in the UK by Ofqual. Training is available for facilitators, horse professionals, tutors, assessors and practitioners of equine assisted learning. Courses run throughout the year.
