We are a group of individuals from different backgrounds and with a broad range of experiences. Collectively we have worked in and with statutory services, private business, charitable and voluntary organisations, and across many sectors including health and social care, education, heritage and industry. Each Director brings a rich array of knowledge and perspectives and we are bound by our common interest in building a fairer society. We like to be creative and to seek the involvement of others in generating new ideas, both to overcome existing challenges and in Thinking BIG about new ways to improve experiences and outcomes. After a number of years of talking about ideas, we decided it was time to take action. We looked at different models for forming a charitable, not-for-profit organisation, and took advice from some who had gone before us in this sector. As a result, we formed Thinking BIG as a Community Interest Company, dedicated to engaging in training, and projects with individuals, groups and organisations, in pursuit of the overarching aim - to promote social inclusion, opportunity and wellbeing, by making a positive difference to services and people's lives through meaningful training and community engagement. There are no share holders, no dividends and no spurious expenses. Any funds raised are put entirely into the running of projects for the benefit of the community. As for the name, we asked the people we work with what words they thought captured what we do. We want people to Think BIG when considering new projects and activities, not to be limited by what is already out there. A little imagination and passion goes a long way, and we're on an exciting journey. We have experience of achieving outstanding outcomes, both with organisations, and with individuals. Our training is designed, delivered, evaluated and quality assured, with organisations benefiting from improved employee ability, confidence, performance and wellbeing. Our community projects have made a positive difference to people's lives, and include collaborations with The National Lottery Community Fund, the Police and Crime Commissioners for West and South Yorkshire and their Violence Reduction Units, Menston Parish Council, Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Kirklees Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, and Yorkshire Mentoring. Our Story Our aim is to promote social inclusion, opportunity and wellbeing by Thinking BIG. To achieve this, our vision is to facilitate positive experiences, progress and sustainable outcomes; empowering people through education, training, skills-building and having a collective voice in shaping future services and lives. Much of our work is with individuals and groups who face barriers to inclusion, opportunity and/or wellbeing, and others who can support these very people. Children and adults can be vulnerable or disadvantaged by many factors including disabilities, ill-health, poverty, abuse, isolation, marginalisation or being in care. They can also find it difficult to keep themselves and others healthy and safe, or to access opportunities, services or employment, as a result of missing out on appropriate education, training or support. We can help to achieve goals and aspirations which improve lives. Others who support vulnerable people include families, friends, carers, schools, and involved or potentially supportive professionals, volunteers and services. These people can also face challenges which need to be recognised and addressed and they can be empowered in their roles through dedicated support and training. By choosing to use our training services for their teams, organisations can benefit from outstanding workforce development whilst simultaneously supporting their communities, as money raised is invested back into meaningful activities and projects

I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself; My Name is Hannah and I am the face behind the academy.  I come from a normal hard working family orientated family. I have dyslexia, dyspraxia, and irlen syndrome (learning difficulties) & undiagnosed ASD/ADHD. I finished school with 5C's 5D's and a E - I failed maths and English and I was told I'd never accomplish anything. I am a mum & career, I have to two happy, healthy, very chalk and cheese, strong-minded boys who both have they're own challenges but I wouldn't change it for the world I am a salon owner - HD Beauty and Aesthetics I've been in the industry now for nearly 8 years working my way though the industry, paying for my first course and working to pay for my next and so on. I started with body waxing 8 years ago and I'm still learning and adding to my knowledge.  I started in the back room of a local hairdressers & opened my own salon 5 years ago, recently moving to even bigger premises! I LOVE my job! I love making people feel good about themselves again, giving them confidence in their body. I am a business mentor - I have a passion for teaching and mentoring others coming into the beauty and aesthetics industry whether it's own salon goals or working within a salon, everyone needs support and guidance. It's a daunting and bitchy industry to be in and you should never feel like your alone. I support clients in various ways to smash their business and goals and help them achieve anything they want on a 1-1 bases!  I am a beauty training academy owner - pulling my passion for teaching and lashing together to offer the opportunity to others to build their very own career in the beauty industry. Beauty has changed mine and my families life. It's given me the flexibility to work around my kids, watch them grow up and attend the important events while feeling like I have something for me and bring in my own money. I have alot more exciting things planned with this - I can not wait to share it!  This is me! I have so much planned for each of my businesses , working everyday to achieve my goals.  The most important thing I have learnt is to never give up.. don't let your past shadow your future.  You can achieve ANYTHING you want and I love supporting others to do the same.

Community Motors CIC was a social enterprise, set up in 2014 by Elaine and Justin Cooper as a Community Interest Company, to meet two specific aims: To provide excellent motor vehicle services to the local community and to provide opportunities for young and disadvantaged people to train in useful vocational skills, in particular motor vehicle mechanics. We saw and wanted to address the career challenges of young people who are not ‘academic’, are probably not suited for University, and who are currently not well served by an education system which is primarily measured by – and hence values - academic results over practical and personal development. Therefore, starting from an empty industrial unit, and joined by Mark and Kevin, our Garage and Training Managers, we built an enterprise from scratch which aimed to deliver practical and ethical excellence in all we did. We provided clear and consistent services and advice to our customers and alongside that offered young people the chance to gain real-world experience and accredited training in a professional working environment, working and learning alongside motivated, talented motor vehicle technicians, many of whom had overcome their own struggles when growing up. We worked hard to run and build the organisation as well as we could, building relationships with local schools, colleges and pupil referral units, as well as many, many members of the community around us, who came to trust us with the safety and reliability of their vehicles. We won both local and national awards for the quality of our enterprise, and many positive reviews and testimonials from happy customers and trainees.

Hi, I’m Jane Barrett, co-founder of The Career Farm and co-author of “Taking charge of your career”. I started my career in in-house recruitment (recruiting MBAs for PricewaterhouseCoopers) and retained search consultancy for blue-chip clients, private companies and start-ups across a variety of sectors including Finance, IT and FMCG. As a recruiter it was clear to me that many well-qualified MBA and Masters candidates were poorly prepared for the interview process, and were unable to explain what they wanted and what they had to offer. This lack of preparation meant that good candidates were failing to get offers. We founded The Career Farm to support the careers teams at Business Schools across the UK and Europe, using our 3-step “GPS” process to help students get better jobs on graduation. Over the years we’ve worked with thousands of students, originally in face-to-face workshops and more recently through our online courses. The Bigger Picture The work we do with Business Schools and our corporate clients helps to support “The Future of Work”, a not-for-profit initiative aligned with the UN Sustainability Goals that gives young people an opportunity to explore the jobs that will help our economies and communities meet the diverse challenges of the 21st century. We have set up The Sid Youth to support young people and families living in our community. Having lived in the Adur and Worthing area for 30 years I have seen the changes in support available to young people and families. I have worked with young people and families for 17 years in a variety of roles including youth work, school behaviour team, Early Help keyworker, and most recently as a REBOOT youth coach. I have experience of supporting those with complex and challenging needs including school refusal, family breakdown, the use of drugs and alcohol, mental health, and young people involved in crime or at risk of exploitation. I enjoy working with a strength-based approach and helping young people overcome barriers and challenges they face but the main thing I believe in is to work with the young person rather than for the young person which helps to ensure they have ownership over the support they receive. I strongly believe that the mentoring we offer really can help support young people in making and sustaining positive changes and educate them around some key subjects that are not always covered in school. I'm really excited to be planning and creating different sessions that will benefit the young people in our community and believe that young people are the experts of their own lives and that at times everyone can need some support. It is often said that young people are “making poor choices”. I believe that this can often be seen as a poor choice by adults but may in fact be the best choice the young person has at that time.

Sullivan Upper is a co-educational, inter-denominational, voluntary grammar school. The school was founded in 1877 and, since 1939, has occupied extensive grounds on the edge of Holywood. The school’s aims remain very much as they originally were: to provide the best possible education for all pupils, regardless of race, sex, background or religious denomination. Pupils come to Sullivan from a large catchment area, covering North Down, Ards and East Belfast. Going further you have to play chess on many weekends. Begin with half day rapid then move on to longer time control. playing in long play events and gaining grading points. reaching 100 plus is an indication of skill among juniors.
