Hello there, my name is Alex Koster and I am so happy you have found my website. I am a mindfulness, nature pedagogy and ecotherapy practitioner with a passion for all things Health and Nature – I believe both are intrinsically related. This passion extends out to a strong commitment to respect, protect and lovingly connect to our environment and Mother Nature, as we can’t have healthy humans on a sick planet. My professional background is in education/nature pedagogy, mindfulness, ecotherapy and holistic health modalities (see full details below). I am also the author of the multi-award-winning book “Roots and Wings – Childhood needs a Revolution”, a handbook for parents and educators to promote positive change based on the principles of mindfulness. Apart from my professional interests, I am the mum of two beautiful daughters, and like any parent, I want my children and future generations to grow up healthily and have a future on our beautiful Earth. There is no doubt we are living in challenging times and we are all affected by global changes in some way or another. The terms eco- and climate anxiety are becoming a firm part of our vocabulary and we need to rethink our approaches to education and healthcare. Families Outside is the only national charity in Scotland working exclusively on behalf of families affected by imprisonment. We speak to thousands of families each year, providing information and support on issues such as housing, finance, and emotional support. Our Helpline, 0800 254 0088, provides impartial information and support and is often the first port of call for families looking for help. If family members require more in-depth support, our Regional Family Support team is on hand throughout Scotland and can offer direct, 1:1 support until a positive outcome is reached.Families Outside Who we Are What we do Front Cover Our booklet entitled Who We Are & What We Do summarises the work of Families Outside and why we believe that it is so important. Click on the booklet to read more. We also provide tools, resources, and training to those individuals and groups who come into contact with families affected by imprisonment. From prison staff and social workers to health care professionals and teachers, our bespoke training sessions increase the awareness of the issues and challenges faced by families and ensure that they continue receive the support they need.

Vicki is a qualified teacher with over 20 years’ experience in schools, colleges and universities. She worked as a secondary school teacher for a number of years before working with students with additional needs. After several years running programmes for young people and adults in the FE sector, Vicki undertook a Masters in Education, specialising in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), along with additional training to assess for dyslexia. She is also a qualified SENCO and worked for several years as an Advisory Teacher for the local authority. Vicki currently works part-time in a HE setting assessing and tutoring individuals with specific learning difficulties. Each year she assesses over 80 students for Disabled Students Allowance and continues to offer advice and assessments to a number of local schools. Vicki is the current Chair of the Dorset PATOSS group. Vicki lives in Swanage and relaxes by walking in the Purbeck hills with her dog Poppy, pottering in her tiny garden and acting as roadie to her musical teenage sons. She helps out in the family bookshops whenever she can and has provided training on dyslexia to booksellers from across the UK. MEd. Alice is a keen advocate of assistive technology and strongly believes that individuals are far more likely to achieve when they are provided with the right tools, enabling them to use existing strengths to overcome challenges. As a current SpLD practitioner and study skills tutor for university students, Alice has plenty of opportunity to develop and maintain her understanding of the challenges that individuals with a SpLD face, and this insight helps inform her work as an assessor. Alice has 2 children and lives in Mudeford. When she’s not working, Alice enjoys paddle boarding and exploring the New Forest either by foot or on her bicycle.
